Best process for asking customers to leave reviews?

This might be too off-topic for Moz, but I think many of us might face the same issue, so I thought I would ask.
Love them or hate them, we get 90% of our business from being #1 on Trip Advisor. My biggest competition is trying very hard to take over that #1 spot, so we are working to keep it.
Has anyone found a seamless way to ask customers for TripAdvisor reviews? We email, text, ask over the phone. But here the problem, Trip Advisor is not the easiest site to leave a review on. If you are on your phone, they want you download the app. Some people don't like to download apps. Or, if they have the app already and click "yes" to open the site in the app, it goes to the app store instead. There doesn't seem to be as much of an issue on the PC, but most people do everything from their phones now. And if something is a little bit hard, people are less likely to go out of their way to leave a review.
So, here's my question. Has anyone found a better way? Maybe a form on my website? Or a process that seems to work better?
This does have some SEO implications in that my Trip Advisor page does show up in search results quite a bit as well as much home page. Sometimes they are #2 and #3 together.

Make it fun. Make it something all your employees take pride in! And make sure all of your customers know how important a review is.
Once I started doing that along with rewarding my employees when they get a 5 star review my reviews starting coming in. I went from having a small number to have a ton. Customer come in and comment on them.

Ah, I see. Well, it's definitely best to adhere to their guidelines if there's risk of a penalty.
I'd review your process for asking customers for a review. What can be improved? Have you tested different copy to see if it affects conversion rate on reviews? Maybe breaking down the process and illustrating it for the customer could help? Get creative!

Also, I've tried to call Trip Advisor... no luck... they don't have a phone number. I've tried emailing them, no luck there either. Its a black hole.

Incentives are technically against Trip Advisors policies. I don't think you are even supposed to offer anything in return, 5 star or not. I usually try to play by the rules because getting burned can be worse sometimes. Was thinking about having a contest... but that seems to be against the rules too.

Incentivizing is against Trip Advisors rules. They don't want to you to even offer something in exchange for review. And you certainly can't ask to offer anything in return for a 5 star review.
Yeah, honestly... I'm not sure how you can change a business based on tourism to not be reliant on Trip Advisor. I don't really like them to be honest with you. It is a headache managing the reviews and the process. I rank well on all organic searches .. 1 to 3 on most of the terms I track. But, its the market dynamics right now. Most people go to Trip Advisor to find things to do while on vacation... or at least check out your reviews. And if there is someone that out ranks you, then they will go to their webpage regardless of finding you first.
Do you have any suggestions, because I am all ears...lol!

Agree with previous response - incentives are the best way. We are struggling with getting reviews a lot, and we are "in-person" business. If you are strictly online - it gets even harder. My car's dealership offered $150 gift card for a 5/5 review. If you can do something like that, you'll get bunch of reviews for sure.

Are you in a position to incentivize them to overcome the friction in the process?
I'm not familiar with the workings of TripAdvisor, but perhaps they can offer some suggestions on how to streamline the process?
Personally, I'd be asking the question: How do we make it so we're not 90% reliant on TripAdvisor for business?

PPC: How do we get our reviews into AdWords?
Hi there, I know that Google have sadly discontinued ratings extension in AdWords but does anyone know a get-around for this? If possible, we'd like to show off the good reviews we have from Google My Business' Knowledge Panel in our ads. We're an online product/service so I don't want to link GMB through the location extension if possible (it doesn't make sense for anyone to pay us a visit in real life). Is there a better way of linking our AdWords to our GMB or is there an alternative extension/ AdWords feature we can use to get review ratings in our ad? Thanks 🙂

Google Removed All Anonymous Reviews from GMB Listings with No Warning
I just saw that Google is no longer accepting anonymous reviews for businesses, and in fact have REMOVED all current anonymous reviews. This just happened in late May, but I'm pretty surprised there hasn't been any talk about this, it's a pretty big deal. Before I knew this I called their "specialists" to ask why we lost so many reviews. I specifically asked if Google had changed their review requirements that would result in old reviews being removed. She said no. Anyone else hurting from the change and finding solutions?

Any experiences with Reviews.io?
Hello, We have used Trustpilot.com for a few years in the past. Service was reasonable and they did what they were supposed to do. However, due to their price and requirement for a full-year payment upfront we stopped using their review collection service. Is someone using Reviews.io? They are included in Google Review Partners, which seems to be very encouraging:

Does anyone use an embeddable Google review widget?
Currently, I use an embeddable Yelp review widget on my site. The widget I use has been helpful, but is no longer actively maintained and I'd prefer to show Google reviews instead. Does anyone have a recommendation for a widget to embed Google reviews?

Paid review service stars in search ads - why is that allowed?
I'm looking at paid review services like Trustpilot, FeeFo and others. I'm told I can filter out bad reviews, which I can't do with my Google Certified Stores reviews. I'm struggling to understand why Google include these in the reviews it uses for the star ratings in search ads. I know it's a different thing, but surely these reviews are in breach of the rules that Google apply to their own "My Business" reviews? New building ownership and NAP - strategies for removing old listings with bad reviews
I have a question based on this scenario: An apartment building changes ownership. Previous owners were terrible and online listings have had terrible reviews. Since the apartment building now has a new brand name, new office address and phone number, the new owners want to create new online listings instead of claiming the old listings with the bad reviews. Also they want to report the old listings as "closed". They would like to remove the old listings with bad reviews from the old management and old brand name and start fresh, since they plan many improvements. Has anyone tried this strategy? How much luck has anyone had rebranding an apartment building and reporting old business listings as closed?

Schema.org problems with reviews
Hey Mozzers, Has anyone had problems getting review data to appear in the SERP? Specifically, hotel package reviews. The site I work for sells packages and products, but I'm having off cases where the data is appearing if there is only 1 review present. As soon as it gets multiple reviews the snippet data is no longer showing up. The schema.org markup is testing fine in the structured data testing tool, and when I compare it against competitor sites where the data is appearing, I can't see the difference. I am by no means a veteran SEO, but this doesn't make any sense to me. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? I could really use some help here. Schema Reviews
Question about using Schema reviews. I believe I've set everything up correctly, and the Google Rich Snippets tool displays that I have...however in the SERP and on the page instead of displaying a graphic of four stars, it displays "4/5 stars" text. The Rich Snippet tool says that it should be displaying the graphic though. Anyone have experience with Schema and know if there's an extra step to take to display the graphic? Thank you!
