Google not indexing images
-
Hi there,
We have a strange issue at a client website (www.rubbermagazijn.nl). Webpage are indexed by Google but images are not, and have never been since the site went live in '12 (We recently started SEO work on this client). Similar sites like www.damenrubber.nl are being indexed correctly.
- We have correct robots and sitemap setup and directions.
- Fetch as google (Search Console) shows all images displayed correctly (despite scripted mouseover on the page)
- Client doesn't use CDN
- Search console shows 2k images indexed (out of 18k+) but a site:rubbermagazijn.nl query shows a couple of images from PDF files and some of the thumbnails, but no productimages or category images from homepage. (product page example: http://www.rubbermagazijn.nl/collectie/slangen/olie-benzineslangen/7703_zwart_nbr-oliebestendig-6mm-l-1000mm.html)
- We've changed the filenames from non-descriptive names to descriptive names, without any result.
- Descriptive alt texts were added
We're at a loss. Has anyone encountered a similar issue before, and do you have any advice? I'd be happy to provide more information if needed.

Thanks Brian, this sounds plausible! I'll definitely pass this through.

I was stumped until I noticed the mega menu. In my experience, google will only index so many images on a page before it completely ignores anything beyond that magical number. Their main page pulls 249 requests and I'm willing to bet the majority of those are the images within that menu. You'll notice the only non-pdf image in google index right now is the page's header logo which is the only image loaded before the menu.
I used to have multiple massive gallery pages on my site and google wasn't indexing hardly a single image from those. Then I was tinkering with my mega menu that had about 40 images in it. I removed them to see if I could increase page load times and poof, google started indexing more images on those gallery pages. All of them? No way. But quite a bit more.
The huge image menu is where my money is at. Remove those, fetch/render/submit, and you'll probably know by tomorrow.

Would changing the file name of an image (not the alt attribute) have an effect of on seo / ranking of that image and thus the site?
Would changing the file name of image, not the alt attribute nor the image itself (so it would be exactly the same but just a name change) have any effect on : a) A sites seo ranking b) the individual images seo ranking (although i guess if b) would be true it would have an effect on a) although potentially small.) This is the sort of change i would be thinking of making : ![Red ford truck](2554.jpg) changed to ![Red ford truck](6842.jpg)

Incorrect cached page indexing in Google while correct page indexes intermittently
Hi, we are a South African insurance company. We have a page http://www.miway.co.za/midrivestyle which has a 301 redirect to http://www.miway.co.za/car-insurance. Problem is that the former page is ranking in the index rather than the latter. The latter page does index occasionally in the same position, but rarely. This is primarily for search phrases like "car insurance" and "car insurance quotes". The ranking was knocked down the index with Penquin 2.0. It was not ranking at all but we have managed to recover to 12/13. This abnormally has only been occurring since the recovery. The correct page does index for other search terms like "insurance for car". Your help would be appreciated, thanks!

Does Google index more than three levels down if the XML sitemap is submitted via Google webmaster Tools?
We are building a very big ecommerce site. The site has 1000 products and has many categories/levels. The site is still in construccion so you cannot see it online. My objective is to get Google to rank the products (level 5) Here is an example level 1 - Homepage - http://vulcano.moldear.com.ar/ Level 2 - http://vulcano.moldear.com.ar/piscinas/ Level 3 - http://vulcano.moldear.com.ar/piscinas/electrobombas-para-piscinas/ Level 4 - http://vulcano.moldear.com.ar/piscinas/electrobombas-para-piscinas/autocebantes.html/ Level 5 - Product is on this level - http://vulcano.moldear.com.ar/piscinas/electrobombas-para-piscinas/autocebantes/autocebante-recomendada-para-filtros-vc-10.html Thanks

How Long Does it Take for Rel Canonical to De-Index / Re-Index a Page?
Hi Mozzers, We have 2 e-commerce websites, Website A and Website B, sharing thousands of pages with duplicate product descriptions. Currently only the product pages on Website B are indexing, and we want Website A indexed instead. We added the rel canonical tag on each of Website B's product pages with a link towards the matching product on Page A. How long until Website B gets de-indexed and Website A gets indexed instead? Did we add the rel canonical tag correctly? Thanks!

Why is Google indexing either the singular or plural version of a keyword?
Hello Forum, We have just finished completely redoing a website and it seems that for several keywords either the plural or singular version is no longer being displayed in Google search results. For example, we sell yoga products, one of which is a bolster. In the SEO section of Google Analytics, the keyword "bolsters" has held a steady rank while "bolster" lost lots of rank and now no longer shows. Both keywords pointed to the same page and hold nearly equal rank, which has both keywords for "bolster" and "yoga bolster" Any idea what may be going on?

Ranking Factors for Google
Yesterday a blog post appeared on SEOMOZ titled 'A Tale Of Two Studies' - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/a-tale-of-two-studies-google-vs-bing-clickthrough-rate It suggested some of the ranking factors Google and Bing take into account when ranking. A few of them I want to talk about: Social Signals, Age of Domain and H1 HTML Tag So I thought age of domain and H1 both had some weight in Google? I guess not! And social signals, now I know it gives some weight but its right up there in the list for both SE's, so should getting likes, tweets, plus1's now be part of my everyday link building? Does anyone know if certain DMOZ categories are blocked/never get indexed on google?
Hi all, After waiting many months I was happy to see a certain site listed on DMOZ, then months later still haven't seen the dmoz category indexed in google. It makes me wonder if certain categories don't get indexed or blocked or even previously penalized by google. The category in question is a regional one : http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Jersey/Localities/G/Garfield/Business_and_Economy/ Anyone come across this before? Dave
