How reliable / current is Moz spam score at should I disavow?
-
Hey Mozzers,
I'm just analysing a website's back link profile, and there are around 15 sites that link with a Moz spam score of 8 and above. I'm inclined to just go straight in and disavow these websites, even though some are industry relevant.
But before I do, what are your thoughts around the reliability of Moz's spam score, and disavowing a site if above a particular score (8 and above).
Thanks!

Moz spam score should be looked as guidance and not a last word. I had some legitimate sites directories shown as spam as directories tend to have lot more outgoing links then the content on the page. And I would have lost , lots of traffic and link juice I would be getting if I consider spam. And some of the sites are high domain authority and really good research resources.
I do not agree anything above score 14 is "definitely" spam. But it is "likely" spam

Hey there,
I wouldn't just take the export and put it in - Moz's spam score metric isn't 100% accurate as it's looking at site metrics, rather than looking at individual sites manually.
Moz have said:
**"WARNING: **Please do not export this file and simply upload it to Google! You can really, really hurt your site's ranking and there may be no way to recover. Instead, carefully sort through the links therein and make sure you really do want to disavow what's in there. You can easily remove/edit the file to take out links you feel are not spam"
You can read the full article on this here.
They've also said only anything with a spam score of 14 or higher is definitely spa****m. Anything with a lower score could be valuable links.
In short, go through each domain you want to disavow with a fine tooth comb as there's always a chance that there could be some really valuable ones in there.
All the best,
Sean

Advice - Remova/ Disavowl of Inbound Spam Links
We have a fair few of inbound spam links in the 1000s with a spam score going all the way up to 90. What would be the best thing to deal with this, i'm thinking to disavow anything about 40. But we are fearful of any issues which could come of this. Any advice would be really helpful.

Duplicate pages with "/" and without "/"
I seem to have duplicate pages like the examples below: https://example.com https://example.com/ This is happening on 3 pages and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. The first (https://example.com) is what I want and is what I have all my canonicals set too, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've also setup 301 redirects for each page with "/" to be redirected to the page without it. Doing this didn't seem to fix anything as when I use the (https://example.com/) URL it doesn't redirect to (https://example.com) like it's supposed to. This issue has been going on for some time, so any help would be much appreciated. I'm using Squarespace as the design/hosting site.

How can I use MOZ to investigate a my recent drop in domain authority?
Between MOZ's last scan of my site and the one before my domain authority dropped from 35 to 29. I'm not sure where to begin investigating this and how I can leverage MOZ in this case. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Delete indexed spam pages
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone had this same situation, or may know of a solution. One of our sites was recently pharmahacked 😞 We found an entire pharmaceutical site in one of the folder of our site. We were able to delete it, but now Google is showing us on not found error for those pages we deleted. First, I guess the question is will this harm us? If so, anyway we can fix this? Obliviously we don't want to do a 303 redirect for spam pages. Thanks!

Disavow Issues
Hi We have a client who was hit by Penguin about 18 months ago. We disavowed all the bad links about 10 months ago however this has not resulted in an uplift in traffic or rankings. The client is asking me whether it would be better to dump the domain and move the website to a fresh domain. Can you provide thoughts / experience on this please? Thanks.

Webmaster Tools Manual Actions - Should I Disavow Spammy Links??
My website has a manual action against it in webmaster tools stating; Unnatural links to your site—impacts links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole I have checked the link profile of my site and there are over 4,000 spammy links from one particular website which I am guessing this manual action refers to. There is no way that I will be able to get these links removed so should I be using Google's Disavow Tool or is there no need? Any ideas would be appreciated!!
