Is it OK to Leave Links in Comments ?
-
It may sound silly ... Just wondering to see your opinion about leaving link on blogs; keyword as name with site link or link in the comment text as long as its relevant.
-
This "strategy" is well known but almost never used right. Imo maybe not link building but rather brand building/sales generation strategy.
-
Hi there!
This can be a good link building strategy - but only if you do it right. Don't go around to random blogs and comment a site link. But if you do this strategically and find relevant blogs that allow comments, this is a good way to do this without it being "spammy".
-
Totally Agree with you Thank you for your great input.
-
Frankly, it dose make sense a lot to me here now. Got picture clear what and how to tackle this. Thank you for your detail explanation.
-
I think Krzysztof has nailed it.... think about the site you are commenting on for links. make sure it is relevant, high quality and moderated well.
If you are potentially touting your business I would also advise requesting the link is set to no-follow for safety and to ensure you do not get penalised for it.
I also think you should make sure the link is 100% useful to the users who will also see it.
-
If you want place link just for link without any good comment but spammy/from template (hey your blog is really useful so come to mine...[link] etc) - bad idea
If you write useful comment about subject of the post with value added AND link would have safe anchor (not so money keyworded, brand/compound is the best for you) - good ideaBut there're few catches:
- check if post/article is really related to your website niche - good? great
- check other comments - are they related? are they spammy? are they generated? - if you see many spam comments with links (money keyworded, repetited) then better NOT to post comment there because website owner doesn't care about comments quality (even if nofollowed - he probably set that to not get outgoing links penalty rather than prevent users from adding spam comments) and simply doesn't moderate them; if number of comments are low (not hundreds spammy looking) and all of them seems to be real - great and post your comment with link (that useful comment, hand written with value added and link not very money keyworded)
Other stuff worth doing?
- check website niche and how relative is to your website
- check stats like tf, cf, pa, da - if they're pretty good, great but imo better if stats are lower but website is more related to yours, than high stats and website is about anything
- check how spammy are links pointing to website - many money keywords? strange/not related anchors?
If all looks good - don't hesitate to post a comment. Your link will be probably nofollowed but still can bring some leads.
-
If it's relevant to the main article then yes it would be fine. They're usually all nofollow links now. What it does do though is offer engagement in the comment section, may get you noticed and added to the main article if you bring up a good enough point.
-
Well the answer could be if the link in the comment is about the same subject than the article, sometimes "spam" is kind of subjetive matter.
-
Thank you for quick response. But i am bit confuse here is the link: http://www.problogger.net/signatures-in-blog-comments/comment-page-2
this gentleman belive its spam. So i am wondering if you still support your argument. Thanks

Not silly, it can be good in a linkbuilding strategy te get links nofollow, the links nofollow are important to have 50% nofollow links and 50% follow links to looks a natural linkbuilding to the eyes of google. But the links you can get in the comments in the form to get the link in the username, no in the body of the comment.

Two sites, heavily cross linking, targeting the same keyword - is this a battle worth fighting?
Hi Mozzers, Would appreciate your input on this, as many people have differing views on this when asked... We manage 2 websites for the same company (very different domains) - both sites are targeting the same primary keyword phrase, however, the user journey should incorporate both websites, and therefore the sites are very heavily cross linked - so we can easily pass a user from one site to another. Whilst site 1 is performing well for the target keyword phrase, site 2 isn't. Site 1 is always around 2 to 3 rank, however we've only seen site 2 reach the top of page 2 in SERPs at best, despite a great deal of white hat optimisation, and is now on the decline. There's also a trend (all be it minimal) of when site 1 improves in rank, site 2 drops. Because the 2 sites are so heavily inter-linked could Google be treating them as one site, and therefore dropping site 2 in the SERPs, as it is in Google's interests to show different, relevant sites?

What do you say in your emails to horrible sites to remove your links?
Morning guys, I've the unenviable task of having to rectify poor link building (a previous company's work, not mine) which inevitably means emailing tons and tons of horrible directories with links to the client from as far back as 5/6 years ago. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat so it begs the question: What have you said to these types of sites that is effective in getting them to remove the links? This could even be a two/three-parter: If you've had little joy in requesting removals, have you dis-avowed the links, and what (if any) effect did it have? Thanks, M.

Is it still considered reciprocal linking if one of the links has a nofollow tag?
I have a popular website in which I include nofollow links to many local businesses, like restaurants and retailers. Many of the businesses are local startups that are more focused on word of mouth and often have no idea what SEO is. Seeing as I am already mentioning them on my website and my readers are finding them via the links, I want to reach out to these businesses to see me if they might give me a link since I have been linking to them for years. My question is: If these business owners decide to link to my wesbite and they give me a 'followed' link, will this look like reciprocal linking in the eyes of search engines? In other words, does the nofollow tag I put on my links to other businesses negate the reciprocal link penalty since both parties are not benefiting from a link juice exchange?

How can I recover from an 'unnatrual' link penalty?
Hi I believe our site may have been penalised due to over optimised anchor text links. Our site is http://rollerbannerscheap.co.uk It seems we have been penalised for the key word 'Roller Banner' as the over optimised anchor text contains key word 'Roller Banner' or 'Roller Banners'. We dropped completely off page 1 for 'Roller Banner', how would I recover from this error?

Site being targeted by hardcore porn links
We noticed recently a huge amount of referral traffic coming to a client's site from various hard cord porn sites. One of the sites has become the 4th largest referrer and there are maybe 20 other sites sending traffic. I did a Whois look up on some of the sites and they're all registered to various people & companies, most of them are pretty shady looking. I don't know if the sites have been hacked or are deliberately sending traffic to my client's site, but it's obviously a concern. The client's site was compromised a few months ago and had a bunch of spam links inserted into the homepage code. Has anyone else seen this before? Any ideas why someone would do this, what the risks are and how we fix it? All help & suggestions greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance. MB.

It Shows as "google results" but it's an incoming links, is it spaming me...?
Hello everyone I have 2 issues to share: 1) We have a site (personal-loans.org), In the past few weeks we notice that there are sites that have links to our site and we get traffic from them but...! when you go online to these sites they show you that all they do is provide "google search" results, because we where in first page on the results we had hits there as well what leads me to think that this is the reason we are at page 7 now after yesterday the ranking was at page 4. these are some of these sites so you can see it: internetpayadvances.com fastlivecashadvance.com assistancemoney.com scoutcashnow.com officialpayday.net Does anyone else got to see anything like that...??? I have many more links like that, these are only 5 out of 9 that had hits yesterday only, site traffic went from 250-300 to 63 a day... For the same site - it was on google search results 1st page and ranked 4-7, even after the big penguin changes. What we did notice is that A LOT of non related sites like surfing (yes ocean surfing) and sites that had no content AT ALL - all the text was inside of an image and ranked 3! 3rd on payday loans search result. (and the rest was and still just looks the same with different content...) Google say they want quality but does not do homework for the 2nd largest search for keywords such as loans and payday loans market, same goes for the cash advance. Please help, need your advice.... Thanks

Partners and Customers logo listing and links
We have just created a program where we list the customers that use our software and a link to their websites on a new "Customers" page. We expect to have upwards of 100 logos with links back to their sites. I want to be sure this isn't bordering on gray or black hat link building. I think it is okay since they are actual users of our software. But there is still that slight doubt. Along these same lines, would you recommend adding a nofollow or noindex tag? Thanks for your help.
