SEO - Google Local Listing & Same Day Delivery
-
Hi
We are looking to offer same day delivery if you're in a 20 mile radius to us. I'm trying to do some research on how to optimise this for Google organic listings.
Would this be the same as optimising for a local business listing?
I'm not sure where to start. Thanks!
Becky

Great thank you.
I haven't looked into local optimisation before so this helps!

Hey Becky,
I would optimise the main 'delivery' page on the website to account for these terms.
If you have a whole bunch of products, I'm guessing there's a small snippet of information on each page that mentions delivery options? I would amend the delivery snippet on every page (hopefully you can do this quickly in the CMS) to mention 'same day delivery'.
This way, when someone searches for a particular product with 'same day delivery' in their search query, product pages will likely show higher in search results because it's mentioned on the page itself.
Hope this helps,
Sean

This is really helpful thank you.
We do have a huge range of products, so it would be hard to choose just one.
Would this be a case of still optimising the delivery page?
-
Hey Becky,
I would say to check out the competition for this - for example, search for 'same day delivery {your business service}' into Google and see what comes up.
An example search on my screen turned up a bunch of local retailers that have optimised their '/delivery-information' pages to shout about the 'same day delivery' option. Almost all of the top 10 mentioned their 'same day delivery' option within their page title and meta description also, with a couple of them featuring the whole 'same-day-delivery' term within their URL.
If you're going for the local searches such as 'same day delivery {your business service} in {location}', then I would recommend writing a section about the delivery option within each of the location pages for search engines to pick up. It wouldn't hurt to mention this within their page titles and meta descriptions also.
I hope that helps!
Sean

Google News Results
This is more of an observation than anything else. Has anyone noticed any strange results in Google News, in terms of very old content hitting page 1? My example is football, I support Newcastle so keep checking for the latest transfer failure or humiliation. First page for couple of days is showing old articles (April, May) from the same source rather than the usual spread of tabloid and broadsheet news.

Alternately, my site (and each page, thanks to Yoast SEO for WP) does have the rel="author" linked to Google+ for every page, which may make the sitemap entry moot, but I have not yet seen this work in that manner. If you know it does or does not work, please let me know. Please let me know if you have any better information or specific experience. Also, if I elect to edit my sitemaps (provided by Wistia.com and BitsontheRun) to include this tag, what XML Sitemap Tool might work well to add these tags properly? Seems there is lots of XML Sitemap tools, but few really address Video Sitemap options specifically. Thanks, Bill@apalytics.com www.apalytics.com0 -
How does my blog help in SEO
Hi I have recently put a wordpress blog on my site and have employed a few blog writers, each putting 2 or 3 posts per week up. There brief so far has been to write interesting, humorous and topical articles. Stupid as it may seem I have done this only because the general consensus seemed to be "you must have a blog for SEO" Does it help? Assuming it does: Should I post the same articles to my facebook page and or anywhere else? Should the articles have anchor text linking back to my site? What should I do to make it work well? Thanks in advance Andy

Google above the fold update
Hi everyone, Ever since the Jan 19th Google 'above the fold update' I have noticed some strange ranking changes in some of my sites. 1. rankings increased dramatically (not in top 50 to page 2) on Jan 19th for about 5 days then dropped out completely from the top 50. 2. our rankings then did the same thing again around Feb 2nd for about 5 -6 days then has bottomed out ever since. We do not have any ads on the site but our pages are dominated by images for most of the 'above the fold' section then followed by the content down the page. Any insight into this would be much appreciated. Cheers, Andrew

Organic CTR on Google - KPI?
Hi, I was hoping for some advice on my keyword analysis I have completed. So far I have identified a hitlist of high volume keyword associated to the industry I operate in. As well as this, I'm monitoring our keyword positions within the SERPS. Question: Is there a CTR metric available depending on the position your keyword ranks within Google? i.e. If I am position 3 and looking to move to position 1 on a specific keyword, what amount of incremental search volume would be geneerated to my website? PResumably the CTR would also depend on what market you operate in too I am also going on a 65% / 35% Organic/PPC split based on keyword search volume so to give me a true reflection of the search volume available... Any advice on this would be much appreciated... Simon
