Technical guide for Setting up a CDN to host our images, as well as creating an image sitemap, and setting up the CDN in GWT?

Hi All!
We're thinking of setting up a CDN to host our images with a CNAME on a subdomain of our site. In terms of SEO, I was wondering if any of you knew of a pretty complete technical guide for setting it all up. Including whether or not we need to create an image sitemap, and setting it up in GWT.

Yeah, these articles pretty good and have all you'd need. Still, I wonder why you want to go necessarily with cdn, rather than a hosting, which provides CDN by default. From the top of my head - Google App Engine, Liquid Web and others.

I perhaps worded the intro to my question the wrong way. I was looking for guidelines to set up a CDN externally, and not have it impact our SEO in a negative way. I did some further research into it, and we found a way to do it, so as to not have a negative effect on our current SEO, and make sur all images get crawled and indexed. Here are the resources we found:

These resources pretty much cover all the steps necessary to achieving what I had in mind. Sorry for the erroneous wording in my original question.

Hi, I am setting up a new sitemap for our website. the website contains about 8000 - 10.000 pages. Of wich are 6000 productpages. I have 10 categories, about 80 sub-catagories and about 400 sub-sub categories ( these ar my most important landingpages) At this moment our sitemap is only 1 MB. From that point of view 1 sitemap will be enough. But can i take SEO advantage by splitting this sitemap in 10 categories? Or are there other ways to set it up for a better SEO? Thanks!

Using a single sitemap for multiple domains
We have a possible duplicate content issue based on the fact that we have a number of websites run from the same code base across .com / .co.uk / .nl / .fr / .de and so on. We want to update our sitemaps alongside using the href lang tags to ensure Google knows we've got different versions of essentially the same page to serve different markets. Google has written an article on tackling this:https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/75712?hl=en but my question remains whether having a single sitemap accessible from all the international domains is the best approach here or whether we should have individual sitemaps for each domain.

Importance of keyword in the content to rank well
Well, I am very beginner seo. our website is www.theprinterdepo.com and our main keyword for the moment is refurbished printers, but there might be hundreds of more keywords. I was analyzing the SERPs and found that for our keyword, the first 2 websites that come up have very different content 1.http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=PRN They rank first, but I dont see a lot of text with the keyword in their text or links 2. http://www.valstarprinters.com/ They mention the keywords lots of times in the text, probably they are doing keyword stuffing? So this makes me thing, how the 1st one ranked there? just by link builiding?

Same image file with different alt text?
I have an image that represents 'widgets'. The image works for more than one kind of widget. I have two pages, one optimized for 'blue widgets' and one optimized for 'red widgets'. I would like to use the same 'widgets' image on both pages but change the alt text to be 'blue widgets' or 'red widgets' depending on the page it is used on. Should I: (1) use the same image on different pages with different alt text. (2) duplicate the image file and have two copies 'red_widgets.jpg' and 'blue_widgets.jpg' and then use each copy on the page optimized for the corresponding phrase. (3) create distinct, unique image files (where the pixels are different, not just the file names) for each kind of widget. This is a simplified example of a larger SEO problem where I have 1 image that can be useful on 20 pages that are each optimized for 20 different phrases. Should I use the same image with 20 different alt tags, or create 20 identical (but renamed) copies of the image, or create 20 slightly different image files (with different pixels in each image)? Images on page appear as 404s to Googlebot
When I fetch my website as Googlebot it returns 404s for all the images on the page. This despite the fact that each image is hyperlinked! What could be causing this issue? Thanks!
