How do I mprove site visibility and keyword ranking for new product site
-
Hi, Sorry if this is a ridiculous post as I am really new to SEO, but I haven't had this problem with other sites!
We had a website www.r-dna.co.uk that was never promoted or used very much as it was early days in the product lifecycle. The product (is called R-DNA or Remote Data Network Analysis) is now live so we re-branded and re-launched the site - it has now been live since the beginning of September but we still only have 0.35% visibility and very little ranking in our keywords. We are also using Google Adwords to try and generate business and have registered with numerous online business directories.
I have been blogging to update content, tweeting and updating our facebook page, but we still aren't getting the traffic or visibility increases that we have experienced with our other sites. The MOZ site crawl shows 5 medium priority issues (duplicate title page & missing meta description tag), but no major issues.
I know its probably fairly early days for a "new" site, but wondered if anyone could advise if there is anything wrong which would explain our lack of visibility.

Hi Sharon!
First, I wanted to say that I love the website—the graphics are awesome. I would start by ensuring that any issues on the site are addressed, even if they aren't high priority issues. You want to make sure everything is as tight as possible to ensure you are giving your website the best chance possible to rank.
Since your website is new, the domain age is going to be very young which will definitely impact your domain authority. In order to combat this, spend time building backlinks to your website (like Bernadette mentioned). Links to your site from other web sites are treated like votes or referrals. But it's not all about the quantity of backlinks, but the quality. Don't stress that you don't have many yet—but focus on building quality backlinks to your site.
Here are some of the more common link acquisition strategies:
- Placing your links on websites that the SEO company owns
- Asking other websites to link to you on your behalf
- Listing your website in free online directories – many include a free link with signup
- Adding comments to blogs and including a link in the comment
- Participating in social media groups (like LinkedIn) and including links in posts or within comments
These are just some of the ways that SEO companies acquire links—in reality, the list goes on and on. The important point is that inbound links and backlinks refer to the same thing—they are links from someone else’s website back to yours. (Note: The relatively uncommon strategy for acquiring links, but the ONLY strategy wholeheartedly recommended by Blue Corona, is to create remarkable onsite content and promote it to relevant and authoritative sites—although, often times they find it on their own!)
Continue creating value content, whether it be blogs, press releases, infographics, videos, etc. that people will want to link to! Hope this helps get you started.

Thank you so much for taking the time to have a look at the site and give a response.
I don't suppose you have any tips for building backlinks - it's one of the areas we are really struggling with?

Sharon, the site site looks great--I haven't taken the time to go through it like I normally would during an SEO audit of the site, but since you mentioned there were only a few issues that Moz had indicated, then it sounds okay. I would take care of the issues that they point out, though.
I took some time to look at your site's backlinks, though, and noticed that while you have a few, it just isn't nearly enough to make a difference. A site in your industry would have a lot more links--and looking you'll need to look at your competitors to see that they have a lot more.
I would spend some time working on your site's links, as I believe that's going to be the issue you're having, especially given the topic of your site.

My home page has an "A" rank in Moz and not ranking in Google.
My home page recently dropped from page one in Google to not being ranked for my top keyword. The page has an "A" ranking in MOZ for the keyword. Is there a way to find out the cause. I did have what looked like a duplicate page for a while 3 months ago when a domain was forwarding to my home page incorrectly. Appeared with second domain name instead of primary. Our business has been 95% through internet leads so quite an issue. Is there anyway to find out what is going on.

Keyword Rankings Report Accuracy
How many of you routinely have inaccurate data in your Moz Pro keyword rankings reports? I just checked 5 of our terms that came in this morning - yes, it's a not logged in, non-personalized, incognito, cleared cache search - and none of them actually ranked where Moz said they ranked. One was listed in the top 5 and wasn't even on the first page. One was listed at position 3 but was actually at position 8, a big difference when it comes to CTR. And the report will have stuff like our brand name not ranked at all one week, then jumping by 45+ positions the next week, then gone the next week. And it doesn't fluctuate like that. I get that the reports are general to what most people see, but should such big disparities be expected?

What's up with Yahoo and Bing in my keyword rankings?
SEOmoz is good I've learned a lot from it. I'm on my 3rd month and now have 8 keywords in top 50 for one site and 1 keyword in top 50 for another. This is for Google US. For Bing and Yahoo! US however I am still not in the top 50 for anything. I have read elsewhere that meta-tag page words can be regarded by these engines as a spam signal. In my meta I have used competative keywords that are relevant to my content, some of which are in the body, but are not my actual targeted keywords as a red-herring to potential competitors. Also might be usefull for other smaller places that still use meta-tags. Could not appearing in BingHoo! have something to do with their alogrithms and the meta-tags? or is it an SEOmoz issue? I have another question also. The " / " after a domain name doesn't appear in my Firefox address bar (I think I did a 301 redirect), but when I copy and paste it into an entry box (e.g. for a link submission) it puts the " / " there at the end which I take off. Does this make any difference?

Curious, is there any way when browsing through your keywords to view each individual keyword by the search traffic that term receives?
When looking thru our keywords on our reports in SEOmoz, it would be really helpful to be able to rank keywords by major head terms and long tail terms. Is there any way to have the keyword's search traffic show up in the rankings report?

Is there a way to pull ALL rankings for a site for a set of keywords?
I'm fairly new to SEOMoz, and am looking for a way to pull all rankings for a site with the keywords I've listed, not just the top ranking. So for instance if my site ranks for the keyword "widget maker in MO" in two spots. The current rank report will only show me the top result. I know I can click on each keyword individually and see a full list of the top 50, but I'm looking for a more automated way of doing this (I'm the only SEO at my agency and time is an issue). I previously used Advanced Web Ranking and the tool would like me pull a CSV of the top 30 sites for each keyword I was tracking and then I could just search for my site and pull those results easier. Anyone know of a shortcut or report I should use? Thanks!
