Google My Business - duplicate and previous owner uncooperative
-
Hi there,
One of my SEO clients, a summer camp, is having a problem with their GMB listing.
They have two listings: the one they set up, with the correct address and other business info, and the one the previous camp owners set up, with an incorrect NAP. When we try to edit the duplicate listing, we're unable to verify that we own it because it's connected to the previous owner's phone number. They've passed away and their sons are now the contact, but they're not interested in helping out.
Any suggestions on how to close the duplicate listing without being able to verify that it's your own business?
Thanks,
Susannah

Susannah,
As Sean mentioned, it is possible to get in contact with GMB, but it can be tricky. We have ran into similar issues, we had an issue where the suite number was a letter then number, for instance C 109. We contacted the GMB team, left a message with contact info and manged to get a call back the same day. The changed the issue over the phone.
I would suggest getting in contact with GMB and describing your issue with the team. Talking with Google will make the process much easier.
Start by reporting the problem here, https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3094088?from=cuf
Hope this helps.

Hey Susannah,
Generally speaking, sorting out GMB listings can be quite a troublesome process.
Your best bet, if you can't verify ownership yourself, is to report the page. There's a good guide to how to do this here:
https://www.bowlerhat.co.uk/how-to-report-a-fake-google-business-page/
Failing that, I've found the GMB team at Google quite helpful for dealing with these kind of things - It's a troublesome process to get in contact with them but once you do, they're not bad.
There should be an option to request a call from GMB within your GMB login interface - it takes a bit of looking to find it but I'm sure you will.
I hope this helps,
Sean

Verifying Google My Business After An Address Change
Hello,
Local Listings | | Ben-R
We are trying to verify our Google My Business listing, however, the current unverified listing is using an old address we no longer have access to. The only option for verification is through the mail. We tried requesting an edit but it didn’t go through. Would the best option be to create a new one and try to have the old (unverified) listing removed? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Business Name Not Showing Up in Google's Maps
I have a client whose name in not currently showing up on Google maps. Their business location only shows once their name or related keywords are searched, but their business name does not show when you only look for it on the map regardless of how far zoomed in you are to the actual location. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or knows of a way to fix this. I have already contacted Google multiple times, and they told me that “business’ names are just randomly pulled”. The client is an HVAC store front business with good rankings and a fully optimized Google profile, so these reasons did not answer the issue. Issue in "Suggest an Edit" feature of Google My Business
"Suggest an Edit" feature of Google My Business is allowing the competitors to change your business details, that too without your prior permission! Help with Google+ business name rules
I'm marketing a franchise gym business that has multiple locations within the same city. For the business name, I used to have it set as "Business Name" + City + Tagline. For example: "Ultimate Workout South Calgary Gym and Bootcamps". and "Ultimate Workout North Calgary Gym and Bootcamps". To comply with the google business naming rules I've updated all the listing to just business name. The problem is, now the local search results for my gym locations are confusing. Half the address is cut off in the results, the city is not displayed at all. And sometimes results from a neighbouring city are shown. Anyone have an idea on how to implement a strategy where people at a quick glance understand which location is best for them?

Google Places & Google My Business
Hoping a local biz expert can help ... So all these Google business listing solutions are confusing me. I have Google Places and had been told for several months I would have a new dashboard. I assume I have it now because the interface is different now when I log in. I've noticed missing pictures, descriptions from some of our 70 locations, but so far that's it. But I also see a recommendation for Google My Business. Am I supposed to migrate over there or am I fine where I am. I just want a place to manage my G+ business pages. Thanks!
