How Reliable is the Avg Query Position in GA?
-
Hi Moz Community,
I wanted to know how reliable the average position data is for queries in Google Analytics search console report. I know this report is fairly new this year and the numbers are calculated a bit differently than they were in the old search engine optimization report.
I want to know what the biggest differences are between this search console report vs. the old SEO report in GA. I'm also pretty confused about how GA reports on the average position. Obviously it's an average position of whatever date range your choose. But for instance, if your site shows multiples landing pages for one search query will it roll that into the average or just take the landing page that ranks higher? Does the position average take into account video or photo serp results and is this the average across mobile, desktop and tablet?
This number has always been a guess since it's sampled data but I want to know how accurate it is. I read this article in 2014 (linked below) but I'm not sure if it all still applies now that that data might be presented differently.
Any answers or discussions would be great here.
Thanks

I've heard a lot about STAT, what's your experience with them and in your option how is their ranking data better than GA's?
Thanks

Yep, trying to incorporate them in a rankings report but I find it to be slightly different from Moz rankings.

Are you using these numbers for a report?

Is it possible to have a GA event and a GA virtual pageview fire off of the same click?
If we can only choose one, we'll likely go with the Event, but I'm hoping we'll be able to do both and gather more data about when certain pages (even if they are virtual) are viewed in the path to conversion.

I have to wait either 24 hours or 48 hours before retagging or doing any changes in UA. So how can i know my property transferred sucessfully? After property transferred to universal analytics, i have to configure the session timeout and campaign timeout periods via the Google Analytics Admin page. ( By default,

sessions end after 30 minutes and campaigns end after 6 months ) is it okay if i don't change this settings? As of now in my analytic i have configured google adwords, google webmaster and google merchant. In analytic i have also set custom alerts, goals, funnels, enchance link attribution, eCommerce etc but google analytics code i have already added in google tag manager, so i have to some manual changes for all such things? or all the things i.e goals, funnel, alerts etc will be transferred automatically at time of transferring the property? In Google tag manager i have already configured following things :- Tags :- Name - Google adwords Conversion Tracking b) Type - Adwords Conversion Tracking c) Rules - order sucessful page Name - Google Analytic Page view Tracking b) Type - Classic Google Analytics c) Rules - All pages Name - Google Analytic Conversion Tracking b) Type - Classic Google Analytics c) Rules - order sucessful page Name - Twitter Conversion Tracking b) Type - Custom HTML tag c) Rules - order sucessful page So at time of transferring property all this will be transferred automatically? Also at thank you page of my website I have scripts for goal setting, Affiliator, so there is no relation of this with migration right? Kind co-operation in the matter of highly be appreciated. How does CTR relate to SERPS Position?
I'd always though that CTR would increase with SERPS position but my data doesn't really seem to show that. I used google analytics/acquisition/SEO/Queries and looked at the top 1800 queries. Then I filtered those with a CTR of 0 and for branded keywords. The result was as shown - a big glob with no real pattern other than a long tail of keywords with a 100% CTR Does this tell me anything useful or am I just wasting my time? Its probably worth stating that only 12 of my keywords had over 1000 impressions and none over 10,000 (all in top 10 though) - but thats a function of my industry sector gJgSNGL.png

Does Lightbox Gallery Clicks Count Positively Toward Page Rank?
When a user clicks through a lightbox gallery, are these counted as a click through for page rank? I am using WonderPlugin Grid Gallery on multiple pages with multiple galleries. I do not want these clicks to be wasted. Please advise. Regards, Clever Name SEO www.clevernameseo.com

Custom GA tracking and link value
Hi I'm working on a real estate agents web site which has a lots of links coming from paid listings in real estate linstings sites (this in France so I'm not sure examples will mean anything but basically the agents have 900 house listings in each site and each listing has a backlink) In analytics these are classified as referals and that's fine for the moment But because sites provide different types of links, we are considering tagging all paid links with analytics utm codes. Mainly to learn which ads are actually providing qualified traffic (providing contacts). I'm guessing that currently these links, there are thousands, bring seo value to my client's web site and are not considered as paid links. Will adding the analytics codes to these links cause a loss of their value by clearly indicating to Google that we paid for them? What's the current thinking on this? I'm tempted not to be worried about being honest about the origin of these links but I'm worried that there is a real danger of loosing current ranking Any arguments FOR tagging paid links ? Thanks for you help Neil

Creating a Filter in GA to track Parent Category
I don't know if the title makes sense, but here's my question... Our newspaper website has multiple categories like World, Sport, Entertainment etc. Now, a story, belonging to the entertainment section maybe published on the entertainment page but is likely to have a slot somewhere on the Home page as well as other pages. The same goes for stories in sport etc. However, the url displays the date folllowed by the post title and thats it, no category name. Now, a user may end up going to a detailed story that belongs to the entertainment section (from the home page or any other page) without actually having visited the entertainment page. However, for tracking purposes, we want to see how many hits we got on the entertainment page and any story belonging to that particular section. So, my question is how do I go about creating filters that can help me track category page and detail story hits as one? Or, should I ammend the url structure (keep in mind we are using wordpress for our news website) to include category after the date and would this solve my problem of tracking? I asked a similar question recently but maybe I did not explain myself clearly. Thanks!
