What will the SEO and conversion implications of an ecommere website not moving to https be?
-
Client has an ecommerce website on Adobe Business Catalyst and they are currently not able to move websites onto https. They have announced this won't be available until late June.
What are the expected implications of this in terms of site visibility and conversions etc?

Hi
Just to jump in on this, the site I work on hasn't transitioned to full https yet, but the login, basket & payment pages are all https.
What is your view on this? I;m aware we need to transition the whole site, but I need to push this with the dev team at our parent company.
Thanks
Becky

Hi there
For one, https is now a ranking signal. When Google says "Hey, this is important enough for us to consider for ranking websites", you hould heed their advice.
Most of all, it's security. When users see a site is https without any issues or warnings, they are exponentially more likely to take action or make a purchase on your website. Beyond that, it's protection against identity and data theft. When you encrypt data and have a SSL, you're guaranteeing you're taking the steps to secure information submitted on that website. This includes everything such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, addresses, and more.
It's a matter of doing what's right to protect your user's information and your website from hackers and breaches. My two cents - do it as soon as possible and let your client know that this should be high priority.
Good luck!

Hi Kerry,
For ecommerce site https required otherwise users won't enter their card details and you will loose customer. You could be hacked.

Canonicalization on my website
I am kind of new to all this but I would like to understand canonicalization. I have a website which when you arrive on it is www.mysite.com but once inside and flicking back to the homepage it reverts to www.mysite.com/index.html. Should I be doing something re canonicalization? If so what? Will the link juice be diluted by having two home page versions? Thanks

Types of SEO Help
I have a web site that is going well but I think it could be better as far as usability and design. Also, I am sure an SEO professional would have some things to do to optimize. It seems though, that all the SEO companies either want to have along term contract or they don't work with my technology. Does anyone know of a company that would take my Visual Studio/C# project and tweak it for usability, design and SEO features for an hourly or set price?

I have 2 websites with the same content
Hello everyone, this is my first post here on SEOmoz and I have a questions that I cannot seem to figure out. So here is my scenario: I have 2 websites that are identical. The only difference between the 2 websites is the domain name. This was done a while back for marketing purposes, however, I am no longer needing my 2nd website. What is the best way to get rid of this second website? I still have about 1 paying customer a day convert on this 2nd website and I do not want to loose them, however, I know that I am getting penalized by the search engines because of this duplicate content. Please let me know the best way of going about this. PS: I have read about 301 redirects, canonicalizing URLs, and other methods but do not know which one to choose. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Keyword ranking not moving
Hello, We have a very important keyword for our website (www.decorplanet.com) that hasn't moved in any direction in over a year. The keyword is "bathroom vanities". Our current SEO company has told us that the previous company has "over- optimized/linked" for this particular keyword and now Google is penalizing us for this. They told us that we need to leave it alone for a while and concentrate on other keywords and this one should naturally come back up (I should mention that at some point, we were much higher than where we are right now for that particular keyword). Many of our other high-profile keywords have been moving nicely to the first page. Keywords like "modern bathroom vanities", "antique bathroom vanities", "contemporary bathroom vanities", but the one that we really want ("bathroom vanities") hasn't budged at all. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Is it possible that Google put us in some sort of a "sand-box" - I mean we are on page 2 so it doesn't sound like that's the case. It's just very bizarre that we can't seem to do anything with this keyword. Really appreciate any thoughts or input on this.
