Google cache from my website give another website
-
Hello,
Some time ago, I already asked a question here because my homepage disappeared from Google for our main keyword. One of the problems that we showing up was the Google cache.
If you look to the cache of the website www.conseilfleursdebach.fr, you see that it show the content of www.lesfleursdebach.be. It's both our website, but one is focus on France and the other one on Belgium.
Before, there were flags on the page to go to the other country, but in the meantime I removed all links from the .fr to the .be and opposite. This is ongoing since January.
Who has an idea of what can cause this and most of all, what do do?
Kind regards,
Tine

The problem is finally resolved. We rewrote some main content on the homepage + changed the menu, so the 2 websites look different now. We had to wait again a few weeks for Google to update, but since today, it's back ok. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your answer. Good that your problem is resolved.
I'm not convinced that the duplicated website is the real trouble. Because a lot of websites work like this, a domain for each country, that's why you can also set a country in the webmaster console, no?
We have the same setup for Belgium and Holland, the same for Germany and Austria.
How to be sure this is the trouble?
It's of course possible to combine the websites but we made it like this because we felt people like to order on a domain that is from their country...
We will consider it anyway...

I posted the first reply about how similar my problem was to yours. Mine resolved over a month ago. I'm very sure this is a duplicate content issue. It doesn't matter if they are different servers, markets etc. When you "look" at the sites they "look" the same. Google was taking a default PLESK server page for my domain and showing other sites (3 in total) that also had the same default page. Different servers, different owners and different industries.
I think if you continue to ignore this advice you will have this issue forever. You either need to make the sites different (or at least the home pages) or combine them into a single site and map your existing link juice from one to the other with redirects. You then need to serve the different data based on geolocation.
Depending on your web site, servers, support team etc this could be a very difficult job.

Hi,
I wanted to share an update on this topic.
Last week, we changed both websites www.conseilfleursdebach.fr and www.lesfleursdebach.be to HTTPS. Short after that, our homepage of www.conseilfleursdebach.fr was back in Google. I thought the problem was solved. Homepage back, good cache, higher in position.
Unfortunately, by today, the homepage is gone again and the cache of www.lesfleursdebach.be is back for www.conseilfleursdebach.fr.
I also saw in Google search console that a lot of links go between the 2 websites. The strange thing is, I can't find those links... (see screenshot)
This problem is on for months now. Nobody have a solution?
Kind regards,
Tine

Hi Remko,
Thanks for your answer. Yes, the geo targetting is set correctly.
Updating IP address (and so a different server?) might be a bit more tricky to test. But maybe it's the only way out??
Kind regards, Tine

Hello,
Thanks for your answer. I went through your topic, but most of the things I already checked and gave no solution.
It would be strange that Google suddenly see it as duplicate content as the websites run like this since years and target is set to different countries.
I hope you get answers soon. I will follow your topic as well.
Good luck.

Hi Tine,
Did you already updated the geo targetting in GWT, and maybe you can try a different IP and update you content and site structure. Maybe you can also try one domain to target both French and Belgium, instead of separate domains.

Hello,
I just noticed your question, it's very similar to mine:
My best guess at the moment it's duplicate content. I think Google has updated how it sees duplicate material and then it's picking one of them as the main source. Your two sites are "Similar". Take a look at my question as it has the steps I have looked at so far. In my situation its picking a site that I don't own and very different IP addresses. I'm at the stage now where I'm trying to track down a real life Google engineer to get the question directly in front of them.

Blacklisted website no longer blacklisted, but will not appear on Google's search engine.
We have a client who before us, had a website that was blacklisted by Google. After we created their new website, we submitted an appeal through Google's Webmaster Tools, and it was approved. One year later, they are still unable to rank for anything on Google. The keyword we are attempting to rank for on their home page is "Day in the Life Legal Videos" which shouldn't be too difficult to rank for after a year. But their website cannot be found. What else can we do to repair this previously blacklisted website after we're already been approved by Google? After doing a link audit, we found only one link with a spam score of 7, but I highly doubt that is what is causing this website to no longer appear on Google. Here is the website in question: https://www.verdictvideos.com/

How to leverage Google Images?
My Google search rankings are improving rapidly at the moment, but a lot of my rankings are for images (presume that means the images are appearing near the top in Google Images). How do I capitalise on that? It's not really much help to me that my images are popular unless it results in traffic to the pages where those images are used. I am running Wordpress so I have the option to have images embed as "no link", "link to attachment page", "link to original image", etc. Is there any advantage of using one of these over the other? I'd really like to set it up so that when a Google Images user clicks "View Image" it loads the attachment page or the host content page rather than the image. Bad SEO? I'm not sure if the fact that I'm using Jetpack Photon CDN image hosting will make this more complicated or not. Tony

Dropped from Google?
My website www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk appears to have been penalised by Google. I ranked fairly well for a number of venue related searches from my blog posts. Generally I'd find myself somewhere on page one or towards the top of page two. However recently I found I am nowhere to be seen for these venue searches. I still appear if I search for my name, business name and keywords in my domain name. A quick check of Yahoo and I found I am ranking very well, it is only Google who seem to have dropped me. I looked at Google webmaster tools and there are no messages or clues as to what has happened. However it does show my traffic dropping off a cliff edge on the 19th July from 850 impressions to around 60 to 70 per day. I haven't made any changes to my website recently and hadn't added any new content in July. I haven't added any new inbound links either, a search for inbound links does not show anything suspicious. Can anyone shed any light on why this might happen?

Google Places Drop
Hi everyone! I have a client that was ranking very nicely for a number of keywords. In the 5 pack for most of the keywords we were targeting. His account went under review for some unknown reason about 2 months ago. It disappeared from the listing... Then a few weeks ago it became approved again. He is now no longer ranking for any of those keywords. He is ranking for some obscure ones but the money words are gone. Do you think this was due to the review? Some sort of GP update over the last 60 days? All of my other clients are still ranking strong in Google Places. Any ideas?

Missing Suite Number on Google
I realized that we are missing a suite number. It is not on the website or the recently updated Google/Bing/Yahoo revisions I did. Should I go and fix? Or should I go and adjust old listings. Does a suite number matter in the NAP?

Is it worth paying to add an article to another website?
I have done some research into the types of sites that my competitors have inbound links from and upon closer inspection it appears that in many cases they would have had to pay for this kind of exposure. I already do a lot of guess blogging (for free) in an attempt to get my content out there, but is it worth paying to add my content (with backlinks) to established sites with good Domain Authority or PageRank? I, as I'm sure do a lot of you, have been inundated throughout my SEO career with offers to pay £X for this and £X for that. What is a good rate to pay? Is it dependent on what you expect to get back or is there an industry norm? Happy for general chatter on this as I want to try it but if I am to get the budget from my manager I need to be certain it will pay dividends and is worthwhile.
