Blog posts and 3rd hierarchy pages weigh same as per Google?
-
Our blogs.website.com has been a sub-directory since 2 years as website.com/blog. Now we have blog posts with URLs website.com/blog/blog-post-1. This blog is located at different place technically, away from website.
Now my doubt is whether the blog-posts have equal weightage at Google just like other 3rd hierarchy level pages of website like website.com/page1/topic2.
Thanks

Thanks for clarifying. In terms of weight, I don't think there is any significant difference between your 2 examples. Your ability to rank prominently for one over the other will depend on many factors, including:
- Internal links pointing to page
- External links pointing to page
- Click-throughs from search
- On-Page optimization
- Etc... etc...
However, I believe the most important factor (tying this all together) will be the user's search query. If Google thinks a user is looking for a specific product, example.com/product/feature might have the most ranking potential. If Google thinks users are looking for an answer to a question it thinks your blog post answers well, example.com/blog/blog-post-1 might have the most ranking potential.
I don't know that I would ever "ignore" opportunities to optimize for a specific keyword or phrase, regardless of the page or post type.

Hi Brian,
Let me elaborate my question little more:
Blog-post page: example.com/blog/blog-post-1
website page: example.com/product/feature
Above two pages are same level pages as per page hierarchy; but one page is from blog and other page is from website. Usually we see that website pages do have more authority than blog posts. Is that true? Google gives same importance to these pages? Definitely there will be some impact if the website pages are not optimised enough. Is it same with blog-posts being same hierarchy level pages or we can ignore little optimisation at blog level pages?
Thanks

Hey there,
It is a bit difficult to understand your question, but I'll give it a go.
First, it appears you've relocated your blog from _blog.example.com _to example.com/blog. This is a great move, assuming all of the old URLs are properly redirected.
Regarding authority of child pages within a website's architecture...
From an organizational standpoint, users (and search engines) will certainly recognize that _example.com/blog/blog-post/_is further down in your site's hierarchy than example.com/blog/. However, from an SEO/rank-ability standpoint, this is not an issue I'd be concerned about. This will all depend on the user's search query, but /blog/blog-post/ could have every chance of ranking over /blog/ organically.

Why isn't Google caching our pages?
Hi everyone, We have a new content marketing site that allows anyone to publish checklists. Each checklist is being indexed by Google, but Google is not storing a cached version of any of our checklists. Here's an example:

WordPress posts Title field inserts title into blog posts like a headline but doesn't ad H1 tag how to change?
I have a Wordpress website which is just using the Default theme, when I post in the blog, whatever I put in the "Title" field at the top of the editor is automatically is placed within the body of the blog post, like a headline, but it doesn't include any H1 tags that I can see. If I add my own headline within in the blog editor, it still inserts the Title like a headline. I am using the Yoast SEO Plugin and also write the meta title there, should I just leave the Wordpress title field blank so it doesn't insert into the blog post? Or is that inserted Title being recognized as an H1 even though I don't see h1 tags anywhere? Hope this isn't too confusing.

Google serving wrong page...
Hi, When you Google: "Los Angeles divorce attorney", you will see this site on the 5th page of the SERPS: www.berenjifamilylaw.com/blog/. For some reason, Google is serving the BLOG page as opposed to the homepage. This has been going on now for several weeks. Any tips on how to fix this? Obviously, the Homepage is more relevant and has more links going to it, so not sure why it's happening. Would you just leave it alone? Would you use robots.txt to block Google from crawling the BLOG post page? Thanks.

How do i prevent Google and Moz from counting pages as duplicates?
I have 130,000 profiles on my site. When not Connected to them they have very few differences. So a bot - not logged in, etc, will see a login form and "Connect to Profilename" MOZ and Google call the links the same, even though theyre unique such as example.com/id/328/name-of-this-group example.com/id/87323/name-of-a-different-group So how do i separate them? Can I use Schema or something to help identify that these are profile pages, or that the content on them should be ignored as its help text, etc? Take facebook - each facebook profile for a name renders simple results: https://www.facebook.com/public/John-Smith https://www.facebook.com/family/Smith/ Would that be duplicate data if facebook had a "Why to join" article on all of those pages?

Google+ Local pages under review. How long does this take?
I have a couple Google+ local pages that have been placed under review. Does anyone have experience regarding the time frame of this reveiw process. Google says to give it a few weeks, but one page has been under review for four weeks now. How long should I wait for Google to review them before I delete the page and start over?

Best practice for removing indexed internal search pages from Google?
Hi Mozzers I know that it’s best practice to block Google from indexing internal search pages, but what’s best practice when “the damage is done”? I have a project where a substantial part of our visitors and income lands on an internal search page, because Google has indexed them (about 3 %). I would like to block Google from indexing the search pages via the meta noindex, follow tag because: Google Guidelines: “Use robots.txt to prevent crawling of search results pages or other auto-generated pages that don't add much value for users coming from search engines.” http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769 Bad user experience The search pages are (probably) stealing rankings from our real landing pages Webmaster Notification: “Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site” with links to our internal search results I want to use the meta tag to keep the link juice flowing. Do you recommend using the robots.txt instead? If yes, why? Should we just go dark on the internal search pages, or how shall we proceed with blocking them? I’m looking forward to your answer! Edit: Google have currently indexed several million of our internal search pages.

When to put a blog post and when an article in the articles section?
Hi All, I was wondering when I should write something as a post in my blog and when I should simply add an article in my articles section? What are the advantages of each way? Thanks
