May integrating my main category page in the index page improve my ranking of main category keyword?
-
90% of our sales are made with products in one of our product categories.
A search for main category keyword returns our root domain index page in google, not the category page.
I was wondering whether integrating the complete main category directly in the index page of the root domain and this way including much more relevant content for this main category keyword may have a positive impact on our google ranking for the main category keyword.Any thoughts?

Your homepage is probably more powerful than your category page and that is why it outranks it.
The category page, if it was strong enough to rank in the top ten, would likely be on the first page of the SERPs with your homepage - or instead of your homepage. That tells me that it lacks strength rather than relevance.
The first thing that I would do is make sure that I have taken advantage of all opportunities to build internal links to the category page. These would be links within paragraph text or a breadcrumb system of links throughout the site.
I often add lots of text to category pages. This can be details about the items shown on the page, relevant information at the top of the page, relevant sidebar information, or supplemental information at the bottom of the page. Use these to make links to relevant secondary pages within the category.
That's what I would do. If that isn't good enough then you need links from external sites to obtain enough power to rank higher.

EGOL thanks. Interesting point. I could see how it may slightly increase engagement and how this in turn may be a slight positive factor in ranking, even though the focus of our site is quite obvious already on the index page.
Still my main doubt is whether in having much more comprehensive content on the main keyword on the domain index page instead of having the same content in a category page may as such affect positively ranking of the main keyword in google, considering that google currently lists my root domain homepage instead of my category page in SERP for main keyword. -
If you have a site with a very limited product range (such as the items in your main category), then this might be a good idea. Visitors will see the focus of your business when they land on your homepage and they can dig a little to find ancillary and accessory items.
However, if you offer a lot more than this main category, and the "more" are unrelated items, then making such a heavy emphasis on your homepage might not be a good idea.
Bottom line: I would make this decision based more on customer expectations and where you sales are focused, rather than basing it on an SEO strategy.

Meta Keywords: Do They Hurt Rankings
I know that Google doesn't use meta keywords, but does it hurt to have anything in there? Just wondering if I need to remove all the meta keywords that are on my site, or are they harmless to have. Also, would meta keywords ever be used by an internal search plug-in if we were to install one in the future, or do they generally look at the product title and description for that info?

How long before your rankings improved after Penguin?
Those of you that have algorithmic penalties, how long after making changes did you actually see an improvement, or have you ever? I have several sites that tanked after Penguin 2.1 and after doing Link Removal, Diasvaow files and building newer more quality links and adding content, I am STILL not seeing any change in rankings after several months. I have heard from some people it can take up to 6-months for google to even crawl a disavow file. I have also heard no matter what you do it won't matter until Google does another update. I feel like we have made a lot of changes in the right direction, but I don't want to go overboard if nothing is going to matter until another Google Update is done. What are your experiences?

Mystery: Ranking in Amazon for a product page?
My client has a product on Amazon that has more reviews and better rankings. However, their competitor with less reviews and lower ratings are ranking #1 for our primary keyword in Google. Our product page doesn't even rank on Google, but I'm assuming Google doesn't want to display two results from Amazon. The only difference is they have 1 link pointed to the product page that has a small PA of 10 and DA of 15. Do you think this link could be the only thing making a difference? Should we start building more links to this product page in addition to their website? Any other tips to help our Amazon page rank?

Software to monitor indexed pages
Dear SEO moz, As a SEO marketer on a pretty big website I noticed a HUGE amount of dropping pages indexed by google. We did not do anything to block googleblot in the past 6 months, but since November the number of indexed pages decreased from 3.4 milion (3,400.000) to 7 hundred thousand (700,000). Obviously I want to know which pages are de-indexed. Does anyone you know a tool which can do this?

Main Keyword penalized. And now?
Hello SEO comunity. In one of the sites that I work, our team won numerous keywords in the first searching results. Unfortunately, on june we lost the most important site keyword. It was a general Word, very disputed, that generated a lot of traffic to us. The problem: it droped from third to fifty position. I’d like your help to identify the possible punishments and than find the solutions. What could happened? Where do we start? Is there any checklist to verify the punishments? What do you suggest to me? PS: We always do a clean job, getting away form the blackhat techniques; We didn’t received any notification from Google; During two year, the keyword was in the first ten positions. Actually, I'm looking for an explanation for what happened to me, to get my top10 again. Thanks

Pages On Subfolder Not Ranking
A subdirectory/folder on our website doesn't seem to rank for any keywords where the same type of pages on the same competition level keywords rank perfectly fine. For awhile the pages weren't getting indexed but were crawled regularly. Can't seem to figure the problem out.
