Does Google's algo look at all traffic mediums with regs to onpage metrics or only organic traffic metrics?
-
Hi folks,
This is something I've pondered for a while. I've ask a couple of Googlers but no reponse yet and I don't I'll get one!
In your opinion, do you think Google looks at on page metrics like bounce rate for example from all traffic mediums (organic, paid, email, social referral etc etc) or they only look at on page metrics from organic traffic?
I'm not talking about direct correlations from other mediums. I'm only talking about when a user lands on a website, do the actions they take matter with regards to Google's search algo no matter of the referring medium, or do Google only look at onpage metrics on visits which came to the site via organic search as a medium.
Option 1
As a very simplified example: Google gives extra weight in the SERPs to website A which has an average bounce rate of 30% from all mediums compared to website B which has a bounce rate of 50% from all mediums.
Option 2
Google gives extra weight in the SERPs to website A which has an average bounce rate of 30% from organic traffic only compared to website B which has a bounce rate of 50% from organic traffic only.
I'm not sure if anyone outside Google has the answer/proof of this but was keen to get other people's thoughts.
If you think the also uses one or the other, can you give an insights/proof of one or the other?
For me it would make sense for them only to use onpage metrics from sessions which came from organic seach traffic, but who knows!
Merci buckets,
Gill.

No I'm not talking about faking anything.
The question is, does Google asses on page metrics as part of their search algorithm using the onpage metrics from traffic via all mediums, or only traffic via organic as a medium.
Not sure your answer makes much sense. No worries though.
Cheers,
Gill.

Hi James,
Thanks for the comment.
You talk very matter of fact!
Do you have any proof of what you are saying?
Cheers,
Gill.

Hello,
Google definitely has access to the data your are referring, as you can see it in Google Analytics.
My opinion is that there are two major types of sources for the metrics you are referring to: paid (what they can detect) and organic (all organic + what they cannot detect as being paid). It is known that Google AdWords will not influence your organic results directly. It will only benefit you as detailed here: https://moz.com/community/q/can-adwords-increase-organic-traffic
Although I have no proof, I think that Google takes into consideration the organic metrics with priority. I also think that paid campaigns, although they cannot do much good, they could possibly harm your organic if during the paid campaign your site performs very poorly. After all, there is a Quality Score indicator which influences the cost per click so there has to be some kind of connection between the analysis in AdWords and what Google thinks of your page.
All this being said, I would love to see anyone come up with some data sets tested in respect with your question.

Star rating in Google snippet
I have implemented a star rating from jetpack on my website. But google stubbornly refuses to display stars in the snippet. 2 months have already passed. Maybe I did something wrong? I must say that I did not cheat artificially. https://exoticfonts.com/discord-fonts-generator/

Changing existing URL's to improve SEO
Here's a general question: At what PR/page rank (or Moz 'page authority') would you no longer change an existing URL that's cryptic to one that includes the related page keyword or at least relevant terms? Does using a 301 redirect to the new URL preserve the page rank? Thanks!

Hiding body copy with a 'read more' button
Hi Whats the consequences of hiding half of the lovingly crafted body copy/written content (good quality modern version of what we used to call seo text) i have written for a clients main site sections and then having a 'read more' button to reveal ? I have written 500+ words for each page but client wants to reduce word count displayed since thinks looks too 'wordy'! I know that this is possible and used to be fine if done in a manner that was still crawlable, is this still the case ? Cheers Dan

Can soft 404's hurt my rankings?
This post mainly pertains to soft 404's but I recently dropped a few ranks in my main keyword which I have maintained prior to this my better rank for well over 2 years. I participate in NO BLACKHAT and obtain links naturally. I want to describe a few issues that happened prior to my ranking dropping and see what you guys think. I started to receive about a week prior to my ranks dropping DNS issues with GWT. It was weird because when I would use Goole Fetch on those pages they would return just fine so I was not sure what was happening there. I use Google page speed server which did in fact decrease my load time (YEAH!!) so that was cool. About 1 week prior to my rankings dropping I enabled godaddy's Website Accelerator as well thinking that could help even more. Because of this I thought maybe this had something to do with my DNS issues with Google so I decided to turn off my website accelerator with Godaddy and just leave my Google pagespeed service on. I figure I don't need 2 of them anyways IMO. Also at the same time I started to receive a ton (31,000+) html errors with duplicate metadescriptions and titles. I discovered I had an error with my code which was displaying 2 different sets of descriptions and titles for each of these pages. I since then have fixed the issue and waiting for Google to index those pages. Here is were I think I might have been hurting from the drop in rankings. Some months ago (maybe 2) I decided to redirect my 404's to my homepage. Yes I know this is not good now and I have created a proper 404 page which returns the 404 code. I recently started getting a ton of Soft 404 errors in GWT which is what brought my attention to this issue. My question is, could my action of redirecting my users to my homepage as a 404 which obviously was returning a 200 on a page that did not exist be possibly the culprit to my ranks dropping?

Excessive Internal Linking...But it's a product page. What to do?
A few of our companies sites' product pages have the warning about excessive internal links. But these pages are product pages (for example). Should we be worried about this warning? Are there ways to avoid it? Or is it just the nature of the beast...? Thanks in advance!
