Hello,

I'm no Wordpress developer so need a little help please. I have manually created a video sitemap. It needs to be uploaded to the website. Where should the .xml file be uploaded onto Wordpress? Which directory?

Is it Ok to add the code to a notepad file and upload? I'm trying to avoid the plugin route if possible.

Hmmm, why not go the plugin route. You seem to try something that is obviously meant to be handled in a plugin.

Anyway, what you could do is just put the XML file in the root folder of your WordPress install. From there on it should be available and accessible on your server.

Wistia video rich snippet thumbnail images

Hi there, I just wondered if anyone on the forum had experience of using Wistia video rich snippets and how to control the thumbnail image that appears in SERPs? I have selected a thumbnail with the video information on the Wistia account, but a different one actually appears in the results pages (the image being used doesn't actually appear on the page at all, but it is elsewhere on the site). Has anyone had anything similar and what did you do the control the thumbnail being used? Thanks!

Sitemap issue - Tons of 404 errors

We've recreated a client site in a subdirectory (mysite.com/newsite) of his domain and when it was ready to go live, added code to the htaccess file in order to display the revamped website on the main url. These are the directions that were followed to do this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory and http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#When_Your_Domain_Name_or_URLs_Change. This has worked perfectly except that we are now receiving a lot of 404 errors am I'm wondering if this isn't the root of our evil. This is a WordPress self-hosted website and we are actively using the WordPress SEO plugin that creates multiple folders with only 50 links in each. The sitemap_index.xml file tests well in Google Analytics but is pulling a number of links from the subdirectory folder. I'm wondering if it really is the manner in which we made the site live that is our issue or if there is another problem that I cannot see yet. What is the best way to attack this issue? Any clues? Meta data & xml sitemaps for mobile sites when using rel="canonical"/rel="alternate" annotations

When using rel="canonical" and rel="alternate" annotations between mobile and desktop sites (rel="canonical" on mobile, pointing to desktop, and rel="alternate" on desktop pointing to mobile), what are everyone's thoughts on using meta data on the mobile site? Is it necessary? And also, what is the common consensus on using a separate mobile xml sitemap?

Slide show showing up as video in serp

Saw an interesting SERP today that made me wonder how this is working - A search for alaska train tours reveals the Flash slideshow from this page http://www.alaskatours.com/alaska_railroad_packages/alaska_family_tour.htm showing up on the second/third pages. I'm guessing this is the work of a video sitemap perhaps? Unsure how they pulled this off exactly, but I am very interested to see what people think as I could probably use this for a few different sites.
