I recently had someone say a resource page is a bad idea. What do you think?

I have a resource page on my website: www.joeborders.com
an admin on the google webmaster forum said I should get rid of it. That google might look at it as spammy and gaming the system. Either that or greatly expand on it and make it more complete. I haven't updated it in a while and its far from complete. What do you think? Boot it or grow it?

As EGOL points out, you can make an argument for either side - keep or remove. It's really up to you.
Things to consider:
- Is there a demand for this in the marketplace?
- Is your page currently ranking?
- Is the page useful to your audience? Is it visited repeatedly and for some time? Is it shared with others?
- Is there something better already out there? Can you beat it?
- You said your page is already incomplete and outdated. Are you willing to update and maintain it on an ongoing basis?
- Would you get more bang for your buck spending that time on something else?

In general I would guess that there aren't very many people that visit and/or use my resource page. Does that mean I should probably get rid of it?

You can pick any activity... blogging, guest posting, infographics, video, whatever... and you will find evangelists and naysayers.
In the end, it does not matter "what you do"... instead the impact is determined by how you do it and how well you do it.
I don't know anything about your business model or your clients, so I can't give good feedback on what you are doing. Only the end user who you are successful at putting your page in front of will be able to judge if you have a good product or are wasting your time.

Is this link opportunity worth pursuing? (Gated page)
Hi, While looking for link opportunities for my client in the shoe business, I came across a page of a running club's website that hosts discounts for members of the running club. To actually view the content of the page you must be logged in. When not logged in all you can see is the sign-up page and a message asking you to log in. Would this link be at all useful in terms of SEO or would crawlers not be able to view the page content as well? Thanks!

Google is no longer ranking home page but sub page lower, why?
We were ranking on page 2 and number 4 for the key word motorcycle tires. Google was ranking our home page jakewilson.com; however, we have been adding new content to our site and doing some internal linking. We pointed some links about motorcycle tires to http://www.jakewilson.com/cl/52/Motorcycle-Tires and now that page ranks but on page 3 not 2. Any thoughts?

Better to redirect domain or to link from home page?
Hi, I have a niche directory and sometimes clients remove themselves because they have discontinued their business practice. If they sometimes provide me with their own website (as they will no longer use it either), is it wiser for me to: a) directly point their URL 301 to my own directory b) keep their website as is, and add a url link to my directory in their homepage c) keep their website as is, and add an anchored link with the industry keyword to my directory Thanks! I have 87,636 links to my website from a single domain, is this bad?
Hi guys I have 87,636 links from one website, of which 75,189 of those link to my homepage using my website name as the anchor. Another has 29,811 links back to my website, again the majority of the links using my website name as the anchor. Is this a bad thing? Let me explain how this has happened - a company by the name of Daylife uses our RSS feed and distributes this to hundreds of their clients, which include indiatimes, usatoday, dallasnews etc, now I noticed that the majority of these websites all link back to our website with the same anchor text used several times on a single page. Attached is an example. Would this be a bad thing seen as the majority of these links have the same anchor text and link to my homepage? Looking at my GWT there is an estimated 183,373 backlinks that are all like this. Our traffic has dropped since Mr Panda hit and I am trying to find out if this could be adding to the problem. Ideas for structuring contest to get links?
Hi Mozzers, So I'm getting all set to run a contest. The prizes are great and I've developed a good way to promote it via paid and natural venues. I'm just not sure how to structure the actual contest so the end result is more links than mentions. One idea I had was to make this a story telling contest where the contestant blogs about a good/bad experience within the niche industry and adds a link back to us to enter. Does this seem like to much effort for the user? Prices are worth about $250 each, and I plan to have 3 winners. Any ideas on how to better gear this towards link building is appreciated. Thanks!

How to out rank well with category page for high competitive keyword?
This is really silly question to ask over here! But, I have to drop my mind bubble after long R & D and efforts! Right now, I am working on Patio Umbrellas keyword and want to out rank with following landing page. http://www.vistastores.com/patio-umbrellas I have implemented too many ways on this page since January 2012. Right now, my website is in top 20 position with this keyword. I want to achieve top 10 ranking with Patio Umbrellas keyword. Now, I have certain limitation to make changes on web page. This is client requirement. So, I have to drill down more with link building. I have started work on link building on since February 2012 and rank well with keyword. Now, I'm searching for link building way which help me to improve ranking in short time frame. I don't want to do any single activity on this page which is UN-productive for me. Online Journal (Magazine) -- Past Issues pages
We're hoping to restructure the Past Issues pages for the online version of our twice-monthly medical journal. Right now the Current Issue page (sort of a truncated table of contents) gets replaced twice each month, when a new issue is available. The current location of for our past issues page is shown below: Home Page > News & Journals > Journals > American Family Physician > Past Issues Under Past Issues, there is a page for each year. 2011 - 2010 - 2009 - etc (back to 1998). Is there an advantage to putting all of the Past Issues on a single page? This would be 24 issues per year, which is just over 250 links on a single page and it would grow by 24 each year. I'll attach a couple of screen shots of ideas I'm considering. One is an expandable navigation using jQuery for each year, listing all Past Issues on a single page. The other is making the links to the 3 most recent issues available in the left nav across all Past Issues pages. Do you have other suggestions for how we might structure this? cydxG.png PDXT9.png
