Redirection loop. Best way to resolve...
-
Hi Guys
Got a warning on a crawl today
"Your page is redirecting to a page that is redirecting to a page that is redirecting to a page... and so on."
In GWMT it is set to www. and also back-end in my server.
I also have an SSL deployed and in my htaccess the rule is added to ensure all pages got to SSL.
Any of you guys have advice regarding the best route to go or should I "IGNORE" this warning as all other aspects are clocking 95%+?
Thanks in advance

Hi Dan
Thanks for the response.
I did have 3 but now got the number of affected pages down to 1.
Not a / issue, it appears to show the non www to https as the loop.
Have set the appearance in GWMT as normal for display and set the derivative options accordingly in Plesk and not via htaccess.
It was the plesk v htaccess element that I changed and removed 2 warnings. I shall keep an eye on it and see if this resolves/impacts over time.
Thanks again,
Daren

Is it something like 'non /' to 'trailing /' to 'https' by any chance?
It's not a major issue as far as I'm aware - I've had it on a few sites where I wasn't able to implement changes to the redirects, and it didn't stop the sites from ranking as well as would be expected.
But it's also solvable - just implement the redirect rules for http non / to https, and http trailing / to https rather than in a chain.

Redirects, 301's & 404's
I have tons of links that I have had added a redirect to after creating my companies new website. Is it bad to have all these 301s? How do I permanently redirect those links? Also, on Google Search Console it's telling me I have 1,000+ excluded links. Is this bad? Will it negatively affect me? Is this something to do with my sitemap? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Redirecting Parked Domain
I just recently switched hosting. We have 3 domains and 1 being the main domain. Right now they are set up as parked domains. Can I redirect the parked domains under my main websites .htaccess file ? I am just worried that good we will get hit for duplicate content, even though technically the content is only on our main domain. right now if I type in my parked domains in Google, they appear in search. The site is all hand coded and not using a CMS.

Google Webmaster redirect vs 301 redirect
OK assuming a client's website has the right tracking script (hopefully analytics isn't effected by this issue), ... what happens if the htaccess file has a 301 redirect to the www-address, but within Google Webmaster Tools, the address chosen to crawl by Google is the non-www address? How will Google handle and which address takes precedence in this situation? _Cindy
