How to Measure Impact and Potential Strategies for Competitors with Similar Brand Name in the Same Industry
-
Hello Everyone,
So we have a site (brand1.com) but one of our competitors has a very similar brand name and domain (brand2.org). They’re similar enough that could be confused by users and search engines and target the same topics. When you do a manual brand search they would come up and both have about the same Domain Authority.
Assuming we can’t have them take their site down do any of you have any thoughts on how we could potentially measure potential impact they might be having or ideas on how best to approach this?
Our thought was to track what they are and are not doing so we could do it at a higher level or fill in what’s missing. We would also emphasize differences with an emphasis on local optimization (they’re in a different area).
We would love to be able to have some concrete data on whether they’re having an impact so thought we would find out if any of you have any experience or insight?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Please let us know if there’s any further details we could provide that might help.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
Thanks in advance.
Best,

Hey Ben,
I'd definitely set up a project in MOZ Local and SEMrush and I'd periodicaly measure the amount of backlinks and keywords which you are ranking for in comparison to your competitor.
Backlinks and KW rankings are the two KPIs I would measure in this case. Also, if they are ranking for some KW which you are not, you will see it in the SEO tools and you can start working on it to outrank them.
Hope it helps. Cheers, Martin

Really, what are the benefits of creating a Google Brand page for an e-commerce site?
We have a jewellery store client who already have a Google My Business page set up for its store front business. Should we also create a Google Brand page for its e-commerce site (which has a different business name to the jewellery store)? This client already has a pretty robust Facebook profile. Is it worth it maintaining a Brand page then - since it targets Google plus users?

Local SEO - Review's Strategy
I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas for obtaining positive reviews for a my client who's a local business on Yelp and Google+. I think it's best to capture a customer in the "happy moment" after a successful transaction with that business. I'm thinking integrating the option for customers to leave a review on Yelp or Google+ during the transaction process would be best. Do you have any suggestions or experiences on the best way to integrate this into a transaction process where a customer physically walks into their business to make the transaction? (it's an Auto Body Shop BTW) Also any other strategies for getting customers to give reviews? Much appreciated!

Moving to new domain - Social and Branding Questions?
Hi, We are moving to a new domain because our rankings drastically dropped and we want to "start over". For example - If my company is called Joes Computers and the domain was JoesComputers.com and the new domain which will hold our e-commerce website will be completely different for example - BestComputers.com - which do I brand? Which do I put as suffix in all titles?

COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Best Computers
or
COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Joes Computers Which name do I take for social profiles? Company or Domain?
(We currently have for the company since it was the same). Please note that our company name is already a little bit known... and therefore inside the website it will be labeled in Logos etc. We would also state "Best Computers by Joes Computers" (as if it is a sub brand or daughter company). Social Media Accounts for International Strategies
Hi! we have a client that wants to begin doing business in Italy and France. As they don't sell directly to final customer, they need to generate brand awareness first in those market. We are thinking of a content marketing strategy. As they are a furniture company and they create a very nice product, we think we can work a lot with pictures and articles. We think that Pinterest, Picassa and flickair will all be very important for the strategy. For sure, we know they should create a Facebook Account for each country, but what happens with twitter, pinterest, flickair, youtube ...? Should they also create an account for each country? They are not a very big company, and I am not sure about if they would be able to generate enough content for each account if they have an account per country. What do you think? One account per country or can we avoid that for some social networks? Thank you!

Should I put my "brand" in every one of my posts / pages?
I've heard different thoughts on this and wanted to see what you the seomoz group thought. I have been leaving my "brand" out of my titles so I could create longer titles (without my "brand" taking up precious space.) I've also read that adding your brand can take away from the words you want to optimize for in the title / post. I've read other places that you want your brand in every page title to "strengthen" your brand. Long story short, I'm trying to figure out if I should add my brand to the my page / post titiles, or leave them as is. Feel free to check out my site and current title template if you'd like. Thanks!

What are the best/ your favourite brand pages?
I've got a meeting today where we are looking to come up with some ideas to redesign our brand pages which are currently a bit rubbish www.schuh.co.uk/brands/converse Does anyone have some great pages that I could look to for inspiration? Idealy i'd like to get not only get SEO benefit, but also be able to use them for PPC landing pages as well as the page giving some good info on the brands we are selling. It would be great to get video on the page but this always serves to either push the product further down or get lost at the bottom. Any ideas or examples would be much appreciated!
