Http to https:Risky?
-
I recently paid to have my site changed to https but at last minute did not publish it as I got nervous about it! I asked several experienced SEO people and they suggested that as my business is very small, I have a very small budget and it is 100% reliant on search engine hits, that I might take a 10 - 30% hit on ranking and it would take a long time to regain where I was. And that is the best case scenario if we do everything correctly. Apparently even with being very careful, it is easy to make errors which could have some unfortunate consequences.
Any opinions?? Is it worth it?

You are going to definitely need HTTPS on your site browsers are already making websites that do not have https look insecure I would change over ASAP.
If you perform it correctly with the proper 301 redirects and update Google search console you will not suffer for more than a week max I have never seen ranking a drop personally out of over 20 sites but I have heard of some it is extremely unlikely that it will occur now.
A how to checklist** is at the top if you. follow that you will be okay.**

Llanero,
It is going to be required. So you may want to implement it. If people are coming to your site but getting a browser security warning, you are gonna drop as well. At least going through the transition now will make sure your ready for the future.
I have done a few http: conversions and I have not identified and traffic drops.
Thanks,
Don

Google identifies several reasons to switch to HTTPS in their website migration guide: There are other benefits, though, including the Google ranking boost.
Google even have their own guide, “Securing Your Website With HTTPS,” which I encourage everyone to read, along with this article. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6073543
In my case, I just simple made the redirection 301, then I added the property on search console the http and https version and set the https on search console as a main view
- Obviusly I submitted the new sitemap
But this guide will show you a detailed step by step to follow

301 htaccess redirect or 301 HTTP DNS Redirect
Hi, I was wondering which you would recommend for a 301 redirect. Should we do a 301 redirect from .htacess or should we do a HTTP DNS 301 redirect. The HTTP redirect, does a redirect from the DNS Provider and doesn't require that we keep hosting the site while the htacess redirect still requires hosting. Thanks!

Http://www.domain.com/services/city or http://www.domain.com/city
Hi, I have a website created on a WordPress Platform. My site is in the "Service" industry and we perform the same service for many different "cities." My question pertains to the Navigation Bar and SEO. Is it better to have a "Service" tab on the navigation bar - that has sub navigation that lists all the cities on a drop down menu. When this happens the URL string looks like http://www.domain.com/service/city The other choice would be to create individual TABS on the NAV bar, by doing this the URL string would look - http://www.domain.com/city . I could be wrong, but I am assuming the http://www.domain.com/city is better than http://www.domain.com/services/city for SEO purposes, ....if I am correct is there a way to make SUB Menu URLS appear as http://www.domain.com/city ? Any input as always would be appreciated best regards, Jimmy

Question #2: All of my INTERNAL links in OSE are being indexed from http://www.e.com/default.asp, and all my EXTERNAL links are linked to http://www.e.com/ am I getting a fraction of the link juice because of that?????
Hey guys, sorry for the really long question, but it appears that I am losing between 50 and 75 % of my link juice to my internal pages. In OSE all main category links (left sidebar) are being indexed from the URL that includes default.asp, even though NONE of my external links include that: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FSulky-Thread-s%2F78.htm If you check the PA for http://www.uncommonthread.com/: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2F You see that it is practically double the PA of http://www.uncommonthread.com/default.asp: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FDefault.asp **Also, non of my internal menu links are being indexed. ** Look at the menu on this page: http://www.uncommonthread.com/Sulky-Thread-s/78.htm and then look at the OSE information here for the "invisible thread" item from the menu on the page above^^^: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uncommonthread.com%2FSulky-monofilament-s%2F54.htm Thanks SOOO much! Pre-thumbs and thanks to anyone that can lend me a seconds worth of advice! Thanks again for your time, Tyler A.

Is it OK to 301 Redirect http://homepage.com to http://blog.homepage.com?
I don't have a homepage built yet, and I suspect that my blog will be my primary SEO draw in the long term, so I'd like to do a 301 redirect (for the techies, I'm doing it in Django with http.HttpResponsePermanentRedirect ) I just wanted to confirm that this wouldn't cause any problems as Google gets used to my page (it's only been up for a few days) Thanks! -matt
