Internal anchor text
-
Hello,
I am wondering how to deal with internal anchor text.
I read here and there that it shouldn't be too optimised but I also read that this is how google understands what my page is aout.
I have breadcrumbs with my main keyword in the anchor text and can't change that it is automatic.
In other words if i have 10 breadcrumb going to my top page with the keyword can I be penalised ?

Sorry for the late answer but it really depends.
If your site is about bikes and host news about tour de France and the giro and so on then you may not need to add bike tour for Bordeaux because you're already talking about France bike tour. But you're a traveling company you may have a page about France and Bordeaux respectively, so it may be needed to include those keywords just because the breadcrumb has to be unique, otherwise it may be confusing.
So in most cases I would say that one instance of your money keywords should be fine, usually at the higher levels. Ex:
bike tours - France - bordeaux
home - bike tours France - bordeauxI suppose that everything below a bike tours France will be bike tour related.
but as I told you before there may be exceptions.
I hope I haven't confused you!

Does it mean that the breadcrumb
Home > France > Bordeaux bike tour
is better than
Home > Bike tours in France > Bordeaux bike tour

Interested this lsigraph, didn't know about it but a great tool to find internal linking ideas and avoid over optimisation.
Thank you,
-
There are places where variation is not only allowed but also recommended, ex. external backlinks, internal links from other pages, etc. You may want to use call to actions or LSI keywords. You can use this tool to find interesting LSI terms:Â https://lsigraph.com/
about the breadcrumb I would keep it always the same. Breadcrumbs purpose is not for optimizing anchors but to give users a navigational support so if I were you I would always keep them descriptive but never over optimized.

Got it for the breadcrumbs and for the links in the contact can I also write "red leather boots" 10 times out of 10 links or is it better to have 8 that say "red leather boots" and the other 2 that says "check those leather boots" and "cool boots".
Thank you,
-
You have to be natural. That is the key. If the page you're linking is about "red leather boots" then the anchor should reflect that. What you have avoid is forcing things.
Example of a good breadcrumb
Home > Shoes > Red Leather BootsNow an over optimized one
Home > Boots > Red > Red Leather BootsYou are repeating words that do not add any value, same things happens with URLs many people repeat their product in the folder then in the URI of the page.
My recommendation would be to keep it optimized but without forcing anything. If you are in doubt if Google will like it or not, think about your users. Will they like this link showing that text or will it be too redundant? there you got the answer

International Blog Structure & Hreflang Tags
Hi all, I'm running an international website across 5 regions using a correct hreflang setup. A problem I think I have is that my blog structure is not standardized and also uses hreflang tags for each blog article. This has naturally caused Google to index each of the pages across each region, meaning a massive amount of pages are being crawled. I know hreflang solves and issues with duplication penalties, but I have another question. If I have legacy blog articles that are considered low quality by Google, is that counting against my site once or multiple times for each time the blog is replicated across each region? I'm not sure if hreflang is something that would tell Google this. For example, if I have low quality blog posts: blog/en-us/low-quality-article-1Â

blog/en-gb/low-quality-article-1Â
blog/en-ca/low-quality-article-1 Do you think Google is counting this as 3 low quality articles or just 1 if hreflang is correctly implemented? Any insights would be great because I'm considering to cull the international setup of the blog articles and use just /blog across each region.0 -
301 redirecting to anchor points
A client has just given me a list of redirect URLs as requested of them. However, they're wanting to redirect a bunch of pages to various anchor points within the same page. For example: /pages/about might redirect to: /pages/our-story#our-mission And: /pages/history might redirect to:Â /pages/our-story#history Is there any problem with this? I've never seen or been asked to redirect like this before.

Internal Duplicate Content - Classifieds (Panda)
I've been wondering for a while now, how Google treats internal duplicate content within classified sites. It's quite a big issue, with customers creating their ads twice.. I'd guess to avoid the price of renewing, or perhaps to put themselves back to the top of the results. Out of 10,000 pages crawled and tested, 250 (2.5%) were duplicate adverts. Similarly, in terms of the search results pages, where the site structure allows the same advert(s) to appear under several unique URLs. A prime example would be in this example. Â Notice, on this page we have already filtered down to 1 result, but the left hand side filters all return that same 1 advert. Using tools like Siteliner and Moz Analytics just highlights these as urgent high priority issues, but I've always been sceptical. On a large scale, would this count as Panda food in your opinion, or does Google understand the nature of classifieds is different, and treat it as such? Appreciate thoughts. Thanks.

Does removal of internal redirects(301) help in SEO
I am planning to completely remove 301 redirects manually by replacing such links with actual live pages/links. So there will be no redirects internally in the website. Will this boost our SEO efforts? Auto redirects will be there for incoming links to non-existing pages. Thanks, Satish

Internal Duplicate Content Question...
We are looking for an internal duplicate content checker that is capable of crawling a site that has over 300,000 pages. We have looked over Moz's duplicate content tool and it seems like it is somewhat limited in how deep it crawls. Are there any suggestions on the best "internal" duplicate content checker that crawls deep in a site?

To follow or nofollow paid internal links?
I am having an internal debate on the need to use nofollow tags on sponsored internal links that link to internal pages. One thought is based on this Matt Cutts video (Should internal links use rel="nofollow"?) in which he says that there is never a need to use a nofollow tag on an internal link. The other school of thought is that paid links with follow tags are a violation of Google policy and it does not matter if they link internally or externally. Matt was just not thinking of this scenario in his short video. Would love to hear if anyone has had any manual action from Google based on their internal links.

Any advice on acquiring "jump to" via anchor link text?
Google says these types of references are generated algorithmically and that users should include a table of contents & descriptive anchor link text. Is there anything else we should take into consideration? Also, does anyone know how this works with pagination? Due to the design of our site, we can't make one really long article, but would need to divide it up into several 'pages'--even though it would all live on one URL (we'd use the # for pagination). Thank you in advance for your feedback.

What causes internal pages to have a page rank of 0 if the home page is PR 5?
The home page PageRank is 5 but every single internal page is PR 0. Things I know I need to address each page has 300 links (Menu problem). Each article has 2-3 duplicates caused from the CMS working on this now. Has anyone else had this problem before? What things should I look out for to fix this issue. All internal linking is follow there is no page rank sculpting happening on the pages.
