Are Pages that have High Traffic and High Bounce Rates helpful?
-
I work as a marketing director for a small law firm. I had some basic SEO experience prior to joining the firm but I'm still building my knowledge base. I'm working to take over where the previous web developer left off and improve the site. The previous firm had developed pages for the law firm featuring yearly car crash statistics, statistics for bike crashes, etc. These pages get a good amount of hits but people quickly jump off the pages, and most are not even located in a region where they could potentially become a client.
I feel like they added the pages to show the client that there was an increase in search traffic. However, 100% of the traffic bounces quickly after viewing the statistics pages. Does a page that has a decent amount of hits, but doesn't lead to conversions and has a nearly 100% bounce rate worth keeping around?
My thought is, I would like to remove these pages that do not actually attract potential clients and reduce the overall bounce rate of the site. I don't want to take actions to remove the page without throwing this question out to more experienced people.

Definitely agree with that.. and whatever you do, don't delete it!

Removing the pages is an option, but I would recommend adding a CTA, breaking up text for better readability, adding headers, or changing the pages' design to decrease the bounce rate. Since theses pages are getting alot of traffic, I would assume they are ranking high on Google for some search terms on a national level. Rand did a WhiteBoard Friday that somewhat covers this topic at https://moz.com/blog/landing-page-seo-conversion-or-both-whiteboard-friday. Also HubSpot, another leader in inbound marketing had a great infographic about this as well that you can check out at https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/decrease-website-bounce-rate-infographic.
Having a page like what you are describing is also a great opportunity to get some potential backlinks from people in the industry maybe using it as a resource. I would try to improve the page to take more advantage of the traffic, instead of deleting it. Hope this helps and best of success!

On-Page Optimization Question
My company sells Blue widgets and we are located in Denver, CO. Keyword research indicates that the the highest volume phrase is "blue widgets for sale in denver co". Should my meta title tag be: Blue Widgets for sale in Denver CO , and my h1 tag be the same? or should they be semantic phrases? Thanks in advance!

Does having landing page text beneath the products at the base of the page hinder SEO?
I have a site that is capable of hosting the landing page description either above the products under the H1 or below them at the bottom of the page before the footer. I have always chosen to keep the text "above the fold" as presumably this would be crawled sooner in relation to the rest of the page content than had it been at the bottom. However, this means that I can only really write just a few sentences for each landing page - otherwise the products would shift further down the page - and I don't think this is good from a UX POV. Question: If I move the bulk of my landing page descriptions to the text snippet located underneath the products, could this negatively affect my SEO? Text at the bottom of the page is obviously not significant for users, so is there a chance this could be seen as spam?

Would removing high dynamic pages though nofollow help or hurt?
We have a sub-domain that is hosted by a third party. These pages are highly dynamic (change daily or more often) as they are product search results. Unfortunately they are raising several errors and warnings including duplicate page content, title missing or empty, long URLs, overly dynamic URL Would putting nofollows on the links to this sub-domain help, hurt or not affect page rank? As an example: Links in the middle of this page (prices) http://targetvacations.ca go to a page such as this http://travel.targetvacations.ca/cgi-bin/resultadv.cgi?id=16294922&code_ag=tgv&alias=tgv which is then redirected to a dynamic URL and presents the results.

Optimization for pages with lists of data
I am looking for some ideas on what best practices are for pages that contain lists similar to this page: http://www.backcountrysecrets.com/outdoor-sport/15/places-to-swim-and-swimming-holes.aspx Is it better to break up the list into seperate pages of 25 listings or keep everything on the same page?

If a site has https versions of every page, will the search engines view them as duplicate pages?
A client's site has HTTPS versions of every page for their site and it is possible to view both http and https versions of the page. Do the search engines view this as duplicate content?
