Nofollowing to boost internal page rankings.
-
I have a site with 200 links on the homepage, how much will it boost nofollowing the other links boost the 50 pages we care most about?
-
Thanks for the replies, the site is PR5, Im going to try to reduce the links some

All three answers are correct Adam Google changed the way they deal with no-follow links a while back. Links will pass the same amount of link equity whether the other links on the page are followed or no-followed. The difference, as others have indicated, is whether or not you want the equity to 'flow' to the page the link is pointing to, or to end at the link... either way the same amount of equity will flow to the other pages you have links pointing to.
As Andrew indicated, if your site is very strong (and I mean really, really strong), then 200 links on one page will be ok. Otherwise I'd seek to reduce the amount of links you have on that page.

What's your PageRank? I have seen evidence that websites with high PR can get away with a higher number of links on their homepage. Just look at the New York Times or similar sites. They have 100's of thinks on their front page, but Google will crawl all of them because of their authority.
But to address your question, no, nofollowing internal links has been shown to be ineffective and frowned upon by Google (see link in other reply). Follow everything and really think about the value of each link and whether it really needs to be there.
Good luck!
Andrew

Are you talking about PR sculpting? If so see link below.

For Google, Zero.
When you nofollow a link, the PR will flow to the link itself and die without being passed on to the link's target.

Crawl Test Report only shows home page and no inner site pages?
Hi, My site is [removed] When I first tried to set up a new campaign for the site, I received the error: Roger has detected a problem: We have detected that the root domain [removed] does not respond to web requests. Using this domain, we will be unable to crawl your site or present accurate SERP information. I then ran a Crawl Test per the FAQ. The SEOmoz crawl report only shows my home page URL and does not have any inner site pages. This is a Joomla site. What is the problem? Thanks! Dave

What damage can internal duplicated hidden links do to rankings?
Hi, I have a rental website, www.akilar.com, for Spain. My question is, on the home page we have links to the seperate regions of the country. Somehow in the redesign of the site, these links have been placed on every page of the site and hidden in the code at the top. The links are there as well on each page in the header, these are additional. The page quantity is over 2000 pages. Also this is taking the internal links well over the limit. In anyones opinion what damage has this caused as our rankings of late have fallen. Thanks very much for your help!

Wrong Page Ranking
Higher-level page with more power getting pushed out by weaker page in the SERPs for an important keyword. I don't care about losing the weaker page. Should I: 404 the weaker page and wait for Google to (hopefully) replace it with the stronger page? 301 the weaker page to the stronger page? NOTE: Due to poor communication between content team and myself, the weak and strong pages have similar title tags (i.e, "lawsuits" and "litigation")
