Ranking impact: Traffic in website pages vs sub directory vs sub domain
-
Hi all,
I need clarification on this. Not every time website main pages rank, some times even pages from sub directories or sub domains like blogs or guides; especially for branded keywords. I just wonder what happens when so much traffic is generating in sub directories and sub domains just because of limited landing pages in main website.
-
Will this traffic be counted as traffic in main website as per Google?
-
Traffic increase in main website really an ranking factor?
-
Will the "brand + topic" related keywords' traffic is more for a website; will it ranking improves even for "topic keywords"?
Thanks

1) Will this traffic be counted as traffic in main website as per Google?
Depends "blog.yourwebsite.com" is not the same "yourwebsite.com/blog/" the first will count for Google as a different website. In fact you can check it on Google Analytics you can create 2 tracking codes and you will see that there is no relation betwen the 2 websites. In the other hands the sencond option "yourwebsite.com/blog/" will count as an internal page so all the traffic generated by the blog will count for the website. In my case I use subdomains for Landing Pages such as "promotions.mywebsite.com" to avoid orphan pages errors and "mywebsite.com/blog/" to generate and rank content2) Traffic increase in main website really an ranking factor?
It’s confirmed that Google uses data from Google Chrome to determine whether or not people visit a site (and how often). Sites with lots of _dir_ect traffic are likely higher quality than sites that get very little direct traffic. But this not 100% True. I have several websites with thousand of visits per day generated by ads networks, affiliate networks and they doesnt have a good rank.....Yeah I know sounds contradictory? the point is that those websites were builded for make money, and drive sales or leads, not for SEO.This are the Most Important Ranking Factors, According to SEO Industry Studies
- Content
- Backlinks
- Mobile-First User Experience
- Other Technical Factors
3) Will the "brand + topic" related keywords' traffic is more for a website; will it ranking improves even for "topic keywords"?
In my experience google classify by content or topic not just for keyword, as an example I will mention one of my websites, a product named phen375, is weight loss pill, normally an affiliate create a post or article to promote it, usually the create somethig like "definitive guide about phen375" or "truth about phen375" and this affiliate is ranked in first place with keywords like "phen375", "phen375 reviews", or "how to take phen375" .....Why? because Google always try to define the intention of the users and if a website meet that intention then Google rank that website. How? the affiliate made I really good job creating an article that meets those criteria. Create Links, Onpage Optimization, Good Content ect ect ect

Backlinks to internal pages help website to rank better or vice versa?
Hi Moz community, We have our backlinks mostly pointed to our homepage. We are trying to rank better and not having minimum number of backlinks to our internal pages is one of the things I worry about. Backlinks to homepage alone help in ranking internal pages or backlinks to internal pages help in ranking homepage? Or both required? Thanks

How to hide our duplicate pages from SERP? Best practice to increase visibility to new pages?
Hi all, We have total 4 pages about same topic and similar keywords. These pages are from our main domain and sub domains too. As the pages from sub domains are years old and been receiving visits from SERP, they stick to 1st position. But we have recently created new pages on our main domain which we are expecting to rank on 1st position. I am planning to hide the sub domain pages from SERP using "Remove URLs" for some days to increase visibility to new pages from main domain. Is this the right and best practice to proceed with? Thanks

Product Listing Pages
Hi I had a question regarding product pages and the best way to display the page for SEO. For example, is it best to have a page for - Blue Euro Containers including a table of the capacity options you can buy.. Or, have each product split out so it has it's own product page - 60L Blue Euro Container, etc etc I know a lot of the information will be fairly similar, with the capacity being the one major difference - is this a bad thing? Some of our product tables are too big and the idea was to split them out. Thanks!

Complete website redesign: original domain vs subdomain vs new domain ?
Hello dear community fellas!
Algorithm Updates | | PayPro
The story goes like this: my company has a good ol' website launched back in 2008 and since then nothing much was updated there. Our rank dropped significantly because, well, barely any SEO was done for it. Me and my team decided to redesign the whole thing: content, structure, visuals, links, everything but this time really making it right. However, with our oldie we managed to get a nice user base, so we still want to get all the traffic juice out of it. Now the questions is where do you think is the best place to publish our new website: Our original domain www.companyname.com? Create a subdomain new.companyname.com? Totally new domain www.namecompany.com? Cheers!0 -
Weekly traffic from Google: How do you explain this?
Hello here, I have question for you. Please, have a look at the attached image from my website analytics which shows the unique visits trend of the last 2 months. What it is interesting is that every Monday Google brings me more traffic than any other day of the week, whereas on Saturdays it gives me the lowest traffic. And looks like that's a pretty regular weekly pattern. Why is Google doing that? What does that mean? Why such a clear and steady pattern? I am eager to know your thoughts about this! CGuULrN.jpg

Sudden drop in rankings and indexed pages!
Over the past few days I have noticed some apparent major changes. Before I explain, let me say this: Checking my analytics and WMT: There is an increase in traffic (even via google organic) There is no drop in impressions or clicks There is no drop in indexed pages in GWT Having said that; When I check my indexed pages using site:www.mywebsite.com, I see only 30 results as opposed to the 120K that I was seeing before (it was steadily climbing). The indexed pages have increase 3 fold in the past year, because of the increase in pages, updates, and products on the site. I see a sudden drop in rankings for major keywords that had been steadily rising. For example, I had some major keywords that were on page 7-8, not they are on page 20+ or not at all. Also, the page that used to show in the rankings has changed. I have only done white-hat guest blogging in the past year for link building, on a small scale (maybe 20-30 links in a year). They only other change recently, is that we are: Posting products on Houzz and Pinterest daily adding our site to all local directories (white pages, Yelp, citysearch, etc.) My site got hit by Penguin more than a year ago, but we have done everything right since, and our traffic via organic results has more than doubled since the Penguin release. What the hell is going on? Should I be concerned?

Local Vs National SEO Rankings
Hi Guys, I just had a quick question, is it truly possible to rank number one worldwide/nationally for a keyword phrase these days such as, Computer repair services. I'm not too concerned with the local serps that come up above the fold. I'm just more concerned, if Google is looking to serve more local results into the regular serps listing? I hope that makes sense thanks. Best, Peter

When did Google include display results per page into their ranking algorithm?
It looks like the change took place approx. 1-2 weeks ago. Example: A search for "business credit cards" with search settings at "never show instant results" and "50 results per page", the SERP has a total of 5 different domains in the top 10 (4 domains have multiple results). With the slider set at "10 results per page", there are 9 different domains with only 1 having multiple results. I haven't seen any mention of this change, did I just miss it? Are they becoming that blatant about forcing as many page views as possible for the sake of serving more ads?
