What does it mean to build a 'good' website.
-
Hi guys.
I've heard a lot of SEO professionals, Google, (and Rand in a couple of whiteboard Friday's) say it's really important to build a 'good' website if you want to rank well.
What does this mean in more practical terms?
(Context...
I've found some sites rank much better than they 'should' do based on the competition. However, when I built my own site (well-optimised (on-page) based on thorough keyword research) it was nowhere to be found (not even top 50 after I'd 'matched' the backlink profile of others on page 1).
I can only put this down to there being 'good quality website' signals lacking in the latter example. I'm not a web developer so the website was the pretty basic WordPress site.)

So, this means the website needs to have white hat content marketing . your business should also have good on-page SEO as well, we paid for quality web design, this is how got our company which sells garden offices onto page one. We recommend getting a WordPress website, for your business.

I am completely agree with you, Kevin

Roman is right on, I'll add to it with: Promote it after the launch and never stop.

1 - Good Content, this is a very important point. Your content needs to be oriented to your audience, a good example of that "Backlinko" does not have too many articles but each one tries to be the best post in its topic.
Whit a lot of Images, Graphics, Charts, references and of course a good text. as a tip, I always use Hemingway Tool to evaluate the legibility and grammar and so on. (I'm not a copywriter)
2- Good Link Building Strategy, so your website needs to have a clear structure. Example if you promote a website of Chickens Recipes
This is what I would do
- Chickens Recipes
_ - Chickens Recipes for Christmas_
_ - Healthy Chickens Recipes_
_ - Grilled Chicken Recipes_A good webpage will include good internal links structure so every post has a link pointing to another post inside the blog. In the other hands, you will promote your articles with others bloggers who are related to "Chickens Recipes". The right way is creating content and then make some guest post in another blog pointing to your site.
3 - Don't forget the speed, with the Mobile First approach, you really need to care about the performance of the website, if you run on Wordpress avoid to buy themes on ThemeForest and avoid cheap hosting too.
For me is better to create my own design on psd and hire someone who can develop the theme for me. So I always try to avoid add a bunch of stylesheets, js and so on.
In summary
Good content, Good Links, Good On Page Optimizations and Good Performance

My website is not configured in AMP pages, but it is mobile-friendly.
Hi
Algorithm Updates | | rayabahadur
My website is not configured in AMP pages, but it is mobile-friendly.
Last month, my website was ranked to 10 positions for this keyword (Magento Development Company).
Sometimes it's showing on 25 positions but not in the top 5 positions. Here is my URL (for analysis):
https://www.nevinainfotech.com/magento-development-service/
Would you please explain why my keyword rankings are often not showing in the search listings?
Would you mind letting me know is there anything I need to change?

Sub-domain with spammy content and links: Any impact on main website rankings?
Hi all, One of our sub-domains is forums. Our users will be discussing about our product and many related things. But some of the users in forum are adding a lot of spammy content everyday. I just wonder whether this scenario is ruining our ranking efforts of main website? A sub domain with spammy content really kills the ranking of main website? Thanks

How long you've seen it take to rank in small niche
Hello, How long do you see small niche sites taking to rank where they should be for their strength? Our last site took at least 6 months. Our current site's home page for our main term is stuck at around the 40th page and not moving. It's an exact match domain so it should be on at least page 2. We have one site in the industry already that carries similar products but it is much bigger with a much wider scope of products. It took a while to rank too. Our only backlinks I'm working on are Google & Youtube (and DMOZ), we have a facebook fan page. Our site is nicer than the site in position #1. Working on making as many pages as possible 10X content. Thank You, Bob

Help Me Change My Client's Mind
My client wants to build a second site to provide targeted links for SEO to his main site. He's interested in buying a TLD with some near topic authority/links and then build the second site's authority up from there. He is clear that this could get him in trouble for a link scheme, but thinks it can all be hidden from Google. Off the top of my head I was able to recall a few of the pain-in-the-neck things you'd have to do to not get caught, but he seemed unconvinced. I recall you'd have to have: Different registrar Different contact/WhoIs Different site host Different G/A, GWT Logging into second's site's G/A, GWT with different IP address not used for main domain With the exception of the last one, he didn't seem to think it would be too hard. Aren't there more difficult maneuvers required for hiding this from Google? I want to be able to point out to him how ridiculous this low integrity effort will be, without losing the client. Thanks! Best... Darcy

Are there any alternative ranking strategies for not a blog site other than on site SEO, speed improvement, building backlinks and social media engagement to improve rankings?
We own a horoscope website and looking for some SEO advice. However most of the websites are blog sites therefore most of the SEO content is about how to rank a blog site better. IE getting new quality content, use anchor text link out etc. However if your site is different by nature it is hard to find good advice on how to rank better in these scenarios. I would like to know if there are alternative ways of increasing rankings apart from the usual strategies of improving social media fan pages, building backlinks and optimising the site speed wise and making it accessible and understandable to crawlers and people too.

Are links from directories still good practice?
Ok, so I am new at "link building"....which of course I have read furiously on how that philosophy is changed, it's a goal, not so much a process. I am focusing on great content, social sharing, etc. BUT, I see competitors still getting links from some of the directories that I have found listed on Moz as being "good" directories to list in. For example, yelllow pages, manta, ibegin, hot frog, etc. Do I have the terminology totally twisted here? Is it still good practice to get a couple links from these directories. Or is this practice completely the wrong thing to do post Panda & Penquin. Thanks guys!
