Will using display:none; to hide images hurt SEO?
-
A popular trend among bloggers right now is to hide their long images for social media (Pinterest) using the code.
This makes it so that when a reader clicks the Pin it browser button, the long image still shows up but is not displayed inside their post.
Also note that the alt description for Pinterest marketers are always keyword rich, board line keyword stuffed.
I've read this article from Google on hiding text and images https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66353?hl=en but not sure if this practice fits inside that scope.
What are your thoughts? Will this hurt SEO?
-
I would be surprised if this is really going to hurt SEO. It is a tactic that might be a little bit in the grey area but if this is just 1 thing that you're 'messing' up and not doing the right way it would definitely not be something that they're going after.

Will YouTube Popularity Improve Website Google Rank?
Our YouTube Channel was endorsed by a celebrity and suddenly gained 22,000 subscribers. We are now posting videos 2-3 times a week and get a lot of engagement. Each video has an average of 10,000 views. The result of this is that we get about 200 direct visits to our website every. Almost twice as much as organic traffic from Google. Assuming that this is sustained over time, will it improve the Google of our website? Is there anyway to use the popularity of our Google channel to reinforce the ranking of our website? Thanks!!

Sharing images on twitter
Hi, I want to start sharing images on Twitter, because our industry regulator (FCA) suggests it's possible to share more info about complicated financial products (we are a mortgage broker) where you can't get all the detail needed in 140 characters to be 'clear, fair and not misleading'... I have been thinking about putting mortgage info in images to be shared, but the problem I can foresee is if the rate gets withdrawn by the lender, and the image is already out there (hopefully being shared), it's still our responsibility (according to the FCA guidelines anyway), and we'd be misleading people (unintentionally, but still...) ... It's all a bit of a minefield! So... If the image is hosted on our server and we just change the content of the image but not its file name, location etc... it should update, right? BUT is this even possible? As far as I can tell Twitter only lets you upload an image for sharing (so the image is displayed) and doesn't display images you're hosting... If anyone can tell me how to do this I'd be very grateful... If it's not possible, please also let me know 🙂 Thanks! Amelia

Is there an SEO benefit/drawback to streaming social media to your site?
I understand how streaming social media, especially if you have a great social media community, can be effective in terms of capturing customers. However, I'm purely interested in knowing what it does for SEO. For example, does streaming social media make it look like your home page (or whatever page(s) has it) are constantly being updated? Or, does streaming g+ have a positive effect but facebook not so much? Or, does it have a negative effect for whatever reason that might be? Thanks, Ruben

How do search engines understand what social pages are official pages of my brand? If my Facebook page name is not my brand name (even though there are links from website to page and vice-versa) will that confuse search engines?
My question is about social shares, and how search engines understand what profiles are linked to what businesses?

Employing Pinterest for SEO gain.
Hi I wanted to see if the SEO team have had any feedback from members who have started to use Pinterest. I've had it for a month or so now and I've been adding pins every day since - (quite addictive actually). What is interesting is the gender element to the people who are following and repinning my pins and boards i.e. female. It would be interesting to understand why this the case, why is it so popular with female users. Ultimately I'm tyring to guage the benefits of employing Pinterest for SEO purposes and whether its worth keeping it in my arsenal of social tools. Any insights welcome. http://pinterest.com/visualizations Best David

How do I control the thumbnail image for a link on a Facebook post?
Hi, All! I've spent about an hour working on this with no success, so I thought I would ask the community: How do you tell Facebook which image to put in for the thumbnail on a link you're posting? And I would like it to be a different image for each post, and I don't want to have to deal with programming PHP (the main solutions I saw). I'm on a Wordpress based site, and I've tried putting images in as the featured image, made sure they weren't huge (under 200x200), made sure they were .jpeg... and the only thing that Facebook offers me as a thumbnail is a generic "green globe" image that I don't believe comes from my site at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
