Why is my website not ranking for it's brand name in SERPs but has been indexed by Google?
-
The website https://christchurch.crowneplaza.com has been live for a couple of months but is not being found in Google search results - even when searching for it's own brand name 'crowne plaza christchurch.'
Google has indexed the site - but we are still not showing - https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fchristchurch.crowneplaza.com&rlz=1C1NHXL_enNZ735NZ735&oq=site%3A&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i58j69i59l2j69i65.896j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Any ideas as to why? I think it may be because their are two versions of the site, http and https, both with their own rel=canonical tags. Could this be the cause?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Timmy3
That's a problem but it is not insurmountable. Clearly, you will have an issue with duplicate content so what I would do is create more content. Put in a section about Auckland with some photos of the city and name them appropriately.
The main image Alt text should be Crowne Plaza Aukland but then put further images in with Alt text, Auckland City, Aukland New Zealand, Crowne Plaza Hotel - Aukland New Zealand. The additional images with Alt text (essentially baby anchor text) will enhance your page and make it feel really local. If this is combined with say 500 words of local information and facts about the city and your hotel/the city then you will create a really rich local page.
Then head over to whichever local citation service you use - I use Bright Local but there are versions on Whitespark and MOZ and make sure all your NAPS list your page as the one to go to first.
Bright Local allows you to do a 'citation burst' which will cover the top 25 local citation sites (Yelp, Yell etc) along with Factual for around $85 USD. It is totally worth it.
I think if you do this you will outrank the more generic booking pages within a month or so.
More on local citations here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/local-citations
Robots.txt - Yes it performs the same function as noindex, the pages will not be crawled.
"and should we also no index /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php "- Yes noindex that too.If you are blogging then no index tags, archive & author pages. You can do this in Yoast.

Hi Nigel,
Thanks very much for your response and your feedback.
The IHG.com and Crowneplaza.com site we have no control over - so we cannot add rel=canonical tags to them.
We will start 301 redirecting all the http URLs to https. In regard to the robots.txt, our developers have disallowed wp-admin pages, is this different to no indexing? - https://christchurch.crowneplaza.com/robots.txt - and should we also no index /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php ?
We have built a sub domain before for auckland.crowneplaza.com and it is ranking first in Google for its brand name 'crowne plaza auckland.' We didn't have these ranking issues with that sub domain like we are having currently.
Thanks again,
Tim

Hi Timmy 3
I think this might have something to do with it:
https://www.crowneplaza.com/hotels/gb/en/christchurch/chccs/hoteldetail and this
https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/gb/en/christchurch/chccs/hoteldetail (which is the above page's canonical)You have set up a sub-domain and built a website on it https://christchurch.crowneplaza.com
But there are already two main domains with directories for the hotel (note the gb/en part is because I am searching from the UK) So you have basically set up a duplicate website to the two that exist already which will affect the ranking of them both.
However - I have this https://christchurch.crowneplaza.com at position 16 in Google so not all is lost despite the duplication. Note that I am searching from the UK
Solution:
Put the canonical on the top two pages as: rel="canonical" href="https://christchurch.crowneplaza.com"/>
You also have these HTTP pages in search which must be 301'd to the https versions and the wp-admin URLs no indexed in robots.txt
That should sort it
Regards
Nigel

Why some websites can rank the keywords they don't have in the page?
Hello guys, Yesterday, I used SEMrush to search for the keyword "branding agency" to see the SERP. The Liquidagency ranks 5th on the first page. So I went to their homepage but saw no exact keywords "branding agency", even in the page source. Also, I didn't see "branding agency" as a top anchor text in the external links to the page (from the report of SEMrush). I am an SEO newbie, can someone explain this to me, please? Thank you.

Could i add my website in Google News
Hi , I am looking to add article news section of my website http://goo.gl/De5MKo in google news. We'll remove all content from this news section http://www.99acres.com/articles/real-estate-news and upload unique news, might be possible we use graph/chart and images from some other news site and other sources but the content will be unique and fresh. Any specific guidelines for URL structure for this news section? We are thinking about to create URL like xyz.com/news/ <title>. Is it okay and will not harm our site? Google News can consider my section as a news?</p></title>

Why Google isn't indexing my images?
Hello, on my fairly new website Worthminer.com I am noticing that Google is not indexing images from my sitemap. Already 560 images submitted and Google indexed only 3 of them. Altough there is more images indexed they are not indexing any new images, and I have no idea why. Posts, categories and other urls are indexing just fine, but images not. I am using Wordpress and for sitemaps Wordpress SEO by yoast. Am I missing something here? Why Google won't index my images? Thanks, I appreciate any help, David xv1GtwK.jpg

Google is indexing the wrong pages
I have been having problems with Google indexing my website since mid May. I haven't made any changes to my website which is wordpress. I have a page with the title 'Peterborough Cathedral wedding', I search Google for 'wedding Peteborough Cathedral', this is not a competitive search phrase and I'd expect to find my blog post on page one. Instead, half way down page 4 I find Google has indexed www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/blog with the title 'wedding photojournalist | Portfolio', what google has indexed is a link to the blog post and not the blog post itself. I repeated this for several other blog posts and keywords and found similar results, most of which don't make any sense at all - A search for 'Menorca wedding photography' used to bring up one of my posts at the top of page one. Now it brings up a post titled 'La Mare wedding photography Jersey" which happens to have a link to the Menorca post at the bottom of the page. A search for 'Broadoaks country house weddng photography' brings up 'weddingphotojournalist | portfolio' which has a link to the Broadoaks post. a search for 'Blake Hall wedding photography' does exactly the same. In this case Google is linking to www.weddingphotojournalist.blog again, this is a page of recent blog posts. Could this be a problem with my sitemap? Or the Yoast SEO plugin? or a problem with my wordpress theme? Or is Google just a bit confused?

Any issue? Redirect 100's of domains into one website's internal pages
Hi all, Imagine if you will I was the owner of many domains, say 100 demographically rich kwd domains & my plan was to redirect these into one website - each into a different relevant subfolder. e.g. www.dewsburytilers..com > www.brandname.com/dewsbury/tilers.html www.hammersmith-tilers.com > www.brandname.com/hammersmith/tilers.html www.tilers-horsforth.com > www.brandname.com/horsforth/tilers.html another hundred or so 301 redirects...the backlinks to these domains were slim but relevant (the majority of the domains do not have any backlinks at all - can anyone see a problem with this practice? If so, what would your recommendations be?

What is a "Bad Link" in Google's eyes? Low DA?
Hi there, I'm going through my link profile and I noticed I have a few links that are from <10 DA sites. One has a DA of 6. Should I remove these? Aside from any referral traffic I receive from these links (I know there is none), are these links hurting me?

My landing page changed in google's serp. I used to have a product page now I have a pdf?
I have been optimizing this page for a few weeks now and and have seen our page for up from 23rd to 11th on the serp's. I come to work today and not only have I dropped to 15 but I've also had my relevant product page replaced by this page . Not to mention the second page is a pdf! I am not sure what happened here but any advice on how I could fix this would be great. My site is www.mynaturalmarket.com and the keyword I'm working on is Zyflamend.
