Are good directories still worth submitting to

Hi guys
we have launched a new site and need to get some links
is it still worth submitting to (paid and unpaid) directories like Yell.com - obviously we would only consider the non spammy ones

Hi there,
As others have said, submitting to good quality directories is fine and won't cause you any problems. Try to focus on ones which have value to your business such as good local coverage or are focused on your particular niche/industry. Also put plenty of effort into the listing itself to provide as much info as possible to make your listing good quality.

I've personally found (legit) industry specific and city specific (for local businesses) directories to be very helpful.
I utilize these search commands pretty often:
- “industry” inurl:directory
- “industry” intitle:directory
- “city” inurl:directory
- “city” inurl:businesses
- “city” intitle:directory

I would say yes.
You have to be careful when picking which ones to use, but directories like yellow pages or better business bureau are definitely worth it.

If yes, is it because you believe it is still worth the cost for the link from this particular directory due to the prohibitive costs which deter low quality sites, it's review process, the high DA, or other? If you no longer submit to it, why?

What is an example of good anchor text?
Hi, I'm sorry to ask yet another question but the advice I get here is always so accurate and friendly that it's almost addictive. After Penguin I'm constantly thinking about what looks natural to Google. With regards to link building I can't really envisage any situations where natural anchor text would be anything other than either the name of our company or 'click here'. The only exception to this I would have thought would be if a customer was referring to a particular product on our site. Even in this situation I would have thought they'd have said 'I bought my cheap cartridges at Refresh Cartridges' with the company name still being used as the anchor rather than 'cheap cartridges'. I think if we're stripping it down to what works best from a human rather than search engine perspective then using 'cheap cartridges' rather than the company name would be just a little odd. Therefore my question is whether, when link building, I should just use my company name for all anchor text rather than trying to artificially mix it up to make it look ‘natural’. While I could vary the anchor text by saying 'cheap this', 'high quality that' and playing around with the text, almost certainly when used in context with whatever I am writing this would look unnatural no matter how many combinations I used. Is this correct or would my overuse of the company name make what should be a natural looking linking strategy look unnatural and harm results by not conveying the potential content of the page by using targeted anchor text. Are hosting Web badges still worth it?
Hi, I would like to ask you about a really specific case: hosting company web badges. I'm working for a web hosting company, and in order to increase the number of incoming links we were considering providing web badges to our customers, so they could link back to us. Some customers would be glad to show they host their website with us placing one web badge in their website, but after the last penguin update I'm not sure if it's still a good idea. As the company is hosting several thousand websites it could be a really good opportunity to get some back links, but I would like to hear your suggestions. Shall we use "nofollow" on the links? (But that way we would be missing all the link juice that we could get) Would it be better to just show the web badge on the home page of each domain and keep the dofollow attribute? Are there some terms that we should use or avoid in the links? Maybe "Hosted at <company name="">" would be a good anchor text, or shall we just use the company name? </company> So, I would love to hear your advice about doing or not doing it. Or any advice about how to do it properly in order to get the desired result. Thanks! 🙂 Xavier.

Is still interesting to use aggregators?
Primeiramente, desculpe pelo inglês, pois sou brasileiro. Gostaria de saber, se com a chegada do Panda (que ainda não veio ao Brasil), os agregadores de blogs poderão ser prejudicados à ponto de diminuir os ranks dos links que recebemos. Na verdade, quero saber se ainda compensa usar agregadores de blogs que não utilizam nofollow. Agradeço!
