New year, new plans.

I'm currently working on outlining a search strategy for my company's marketing team. I'm primarily in charge of SEO but I'm working closely with our SEM and Content Marketing teams to build out a more holistic, integrated set of goals and initiatives for us all to work with.

Does anyone have any good examples of a search strategy they've done in the past // a template they've worked with? I have a pretty good idea of what I want to include but would love to see how others have approached this + get some inspiration.

Can you have same product name and description on a local and national site at the same time without getting dinged by google?

My question is regarding a few sites we own which are all related. The local site (http://location.company.com) is a extension of the national main site (http://company.com.) We are in the process of launching these new sites as replacements to older sites we created years ago. My first question regarding SEO is it important to the search engines to have unique product content on both sites even though they promote the same products (with same pictures) and brands or can we keep the same product names and descriptions as I hope? I ask this because essentially they are the same site but with with the exception of the local extension..... We thought by re writing all the content on the main pages of both sites along with different; title tags, page title and meta descriptions that that would make the sites different enough to get away with this. Anyone have experience with RISE awards?

We have had paid interns for years at our firm and now have begun doing code camps. As the result of these and attending STEM conferences, we have found an organization that really is helping a lot of lower socioeconomic kids get to College. I won't tout them yet, but they have a very good track record and I am a big skeptic of these type organizations. I want to know that the people who are supposed to be helped are getting that help and these people are delivering. On top of that they are the kind of people (those running the organization) that I never see in non profits. They are truly engaged, very bright and they worked their butts off. Not all of their kids are STEM kids and we are wanting to create a bit of a sub group with them for kids who would have interest or whose interests can be stimulated in or for STEM educations. Google seems to be very proactive with getting girls and minorities more interested in the STEM fields and I have to applaud them. They also do the RISE Awards and they seem to have a lot less of the reporting requirements that can bog down (and make entrepreneurs run) the process. Have any of you Mozzers got firsthand experience/knowledge re the RISE awards? We want to assist this group in applying for one and any help will be appreciated. Thanks,

Is anyone out there experienced in creating a blog template on Expression Engine?

I have a client that currently has their site on Expression Engine (EE). I have almost no familiarity with that, and am curious to know how user-friendly it is, and what is involved, for example, in creating a template to migrate a blog from WordPress to EE. I am getting more details, but in the meantime, wanted to find an "expert." Anyone out there know this CMS?

Wrong Descriptions for Title's on Google SERP?

I put descriptions in for each of my product categories a couple months ago and a few of my category pages rank high. The problem is that most of my category pages have the wrong meta description on the SERP. The descriptions that are shown sometimes have the home page description, which isn't a big deal, but some have descriptions of different products and most have descriptions of sub categories. Below is an example of a subcategory description (specialty feeders) for a main category: Co-matic Power Feeders - Products - Shop Gear Inc <cite>www.shopgearinc.com/products/co-matic-power-feeders/</cite>‎Specialty Feeders. Specialty Co-matic feeders are built for use on a variety of machines and for specific operations. Shop Gear supplies a variety of specialty **...****Any Suggestions?**Thanks

Difficult Boss: Does anyone know of a SEO quick reference?

I am dealing with a boss who does not understand all the aspects of SEO and its value. He thinks if I just plaster keywords on a page, we'll rank. He thinks I'm wasting my time blogging, link-building, ect. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an article or blog post that has been published that BRIEFLY explains the value of these things. What I am looking for is NOT an article about the basics of SEO. I don't need something that is written for a beginner SEO just starting out who wants to learn how to do it. I need something that is written for a business owner who isn't technically-minded, so he can understand why and how each aspects helps rankings. Does any such reference exist?
