Keyword Cannabalisation & Ecommerce
-
Hi
I have an Ecommerce site, with a lot of similar products - for example leather office chairs - 80 products all very similar..
We worked to optimise product pages for longer tail phrases such as black executive leather office chair, but we now have different product pages trying to rank for these longer tail phrases as well.
Now I'm trying to decide whether to focus on some priority product pages - adding lots of useful content/videos etc to try & boost the ones we want to rank for the long tail.
OR whether to focus on the category page, and getting this to rank for all keyword variations...
I'm a it stuck - any advice is welcome!

Hello Becky,
Rest assured that your problem has been encountered by many other eCommerce merchants, some with much larger versions of this problem. Imagine a hardware store trying to figure out how to canonicalize a few hundred thousand nuts, bolts and screws.
Most of the time, the best thing to do is make it a product variant that you can select from the page. However, if there are a handful of variants that have significantly more search volume than the others, you may want to spin those off onto their own pages. So the best answer I can give is: It depends.
If you only have 80 of them, that's not at such a scale that you couldn't write unique content for all of them. But chances are you don't need 80 unique product detail pages for the same chair.
Does this help? I'm happy to provide more input if you share further details about the search-share and sales-share of each variant.

I would do a bit of everything. Make your product pages as comprehensive and media rich as possible. Include subsections with relevant key terms.
Make your category pages comprehensive and make sure they reference and describe what the category is about. Including sub heading and relevant information.
Do good internal linking to products and link away to relevant blog articles about new developments in that type of product range.
After that just let Google do what it does. Your time would be better spend moving on to the next category than to micro-refine what is probably already a good job.
Sorry if this isn't the best answer - that's just my opinion.
Good Luck!

Related Keywords: How many separate pages?
We have an attorney website. There is a practice area that our research shows many different 2-4 word length keyword queries for. The keywords are all very different, but they end up in the same kind of legal action. We're wondering whether we should write many different pages, perhaps 10, to cover all the basic different keyword categories, or whether we should just write a few pages. In the latter situation, many of the target key words would be mentioned in the text, but wouldn't get placement in a url or title tags. One basic problem is that since the keyword queries are made up of different words, but result in the same kind of legal action and applicable law, the content of the pages might be similar with the only difference being a paragraph that speaks to that specific key word. The rest of the content would be quite similar among the pages, i.e. "here is the law that applies, contact us." Also, some of the keywords, like the name of the law, would have to be repeated on all the pages.

Magento & Accelerated Mobile Pages
Hi Folks, With Google rolling out changes to AMP & webmasters being encouraged to implement AMP.

Has anyone had any experiences implementing AMP for Magento Ecommerce. I understand that AMP is primary for articles & blog posts, but assuming AMP could be implemented on Product Pages, they would load faster & offer a better user experience & a step in the right direction What do you guys think? Many Thanks,

How to target slight variations in ecommerce store
Hi friends, I'm trying to target a variety of keywords for an e-commerce/woocommerce store. These keywords have slight differences, and I have a writer to come up with a paragraph or two of unique content for each SEO landing page. I plan on making them with WordPress pages, and linking them with in the content to other related blog posts and product categories. Would it be best to make individual landing pages for terms that vary like: mens wallets under $100 mens wallets under $50 mens wallets under $25 mens leather wallets qaulity mens wallets affordable mens wallets buy mens wallets online shop mens wallets online Should these each be individual pages? How should I link these to the main navigation? or Should I interlink them elsewhere?

Google Is Indexing The Wrong Page For My Keyword
For a long time (almost 3 mounth) google indexing the wrong page for my main keyword.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Tiedemann_Anselm
The problem is that each time google indexed another page each time for a period of 4-7 days, Sometimes i see the home page, sometimes a category page and sometimes a product page.
It seems though Google has not yet decided what his favorite / better page for this keyword. This is the pages google index: (In most cases you can find the site on the second or third page) Main Page: http://bit.ly/19fOqDh Category Page: http://bit.ly/1ebpiRn Another Category: http://bit.ly/K3MZl4 Product Page: http://bit.ly/1c73B1s All links I get to the website are natural links, therefore in most cases the anchor we got is the website name. In addition I have many links I get from bloggers that asked to do a review on one of my products, I'm very careful about that and so I'm always checking the blogger and their website only if it is something good, I allowed it. also i never ask for a link back (must of the time i receive without asking), and as I said, most of their links are anchor with my website name. Here some example of links that i received from bloggers: http://bit.ly/1hF0pQb http://bit.ly/1a8ogT1 http://bit.ly/1bqqRr8 http://bit.ly/1c5QeC7 http://bit.ly/1gXgzXJ Please Can I get a recommendation what should you do?
Should I try to change the anchor of the link?
Do I need to not allow bloggers to make a review on my products? I'd love to hear what you recommend,
Thanks for the help0 -
