Domain Authority Historic Differences?
-
Moz Team,
We are again seeing shifts on how we report on Domain Authority. When Moz moved from OSE to LE, domain authority scores changed (which is fine because our direct competitors in LE also saw similar changes). The problem is it looks like domain authority trends have re-calibrated to show a long term decline instead of a long term increase, which changes the narrative entirely. Please see IMGUR link. Is this a temporary issue, or has Moz again changed the scale in which DA is measured? Is anyone else seeing disparities in their data?
Thanks All!

Thanks Meghan, I appreciate the feedback and I understand the need to adjust, but using domain authority as a reliable KPI is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly when the historic data between the 2 models contradict one another. These are changes we have to report out on to clients, can we expect additional roll-outs in the near future?
Thanks as always!

Hi Paul!
Thanks so much for the question and sorry for the confusion here.
We did make an adjustment on our end which may cause slight variations in the current and historic DA/PA you're seeing in the Link Explorer tool. This adjustment was made to account for the rapid growth of our index over the last six months in order to stabilize distribution of scores over time.
One of our engineers posted a thread about this yesterday which you can see here. In this post, Ian talks about the recent update and why we made it- hopefully it will help shed some more light on this for you.
I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us at help@moz.com and we'll be sure to get those answered.

Our Domains DA has dropped from 52 to 17
Hi,
Link Explorer | | JudyLam
Our domain's DA (www.tricorglobal.com) has dropped drastically from 52 to 17 on Mar 2019. And has only gone up to 21 now. Is there a reason why this happened. On the other hand, our competitor's score has increased. Is there a valid reason for this? How can I find out what is hurting our DA and how can I fix this?1 -

Can improving page authority on all pages help overall domain auth?
Our website is made up of approx 4000 pages - some of which are old pages with a pa of 1. I am removing these pages (ensuring they don't have links etc). Can removing so many low scoring and useless pages impact on domain authority. Our DA jumped 4 points and i wondered if this was helping Example 4000 pages in total 2500 have PA 1 - these get removed will it look better for DA that overall there are now no pages where PA =1 and the site now contains higher PA pages only?

Domain Authority
This latest report from MOz shows our DA dropping 2 points. I do not see anything that would have caused that? I saw on June 21st Moz wasn't reporting DA is this a Moz issue or should I dig deeper into my website?

Domain Authority dropped by 9!
Hello Mozzers, I have logged onto MOZ this morning to see that my domain authority has slipped (seemingly overnight) from 61 to 52! The competitors i track have also slipped but not as dramatically as me and my domain. Is this an expected change in the algorithm? Have all industries been affected? Any help / explanation would be very much appreciated. Ben

How Does Moz Assign Domain Authority?
When I use Site Explorer to test the following URL, http://jennathuening.results.net/site/index.php, it renders a domain authority of 47. (Clients site on real estate host) There are no page social metrics: no Facebook share no Facebook likes no Twitter tweets no Google+ plus 1's no "just discovered" in 60 days no one has made a post in 3 weeks much or most of the content is duplicate content across all affiliate sites inbound links - only one link - a 301 redirect http://jennathuening.results.net/ Images - 18 (Alt tags missing: 18) Created - 1998-10-15 Registered Org - REMAX RESULTS is associated with ~416 other domains Whois SEO Score 68% AND YET IT HAS A ROOT DOMAIN OF "47" and page authority of 33 More confusing, its page authority of 33 is at that top on blue background and then page 30 just listed below. When I use Site Explorer to test the following URL, http://www.homedestination.com, it renders a domain authority of 26. (Site personally owned and continually update with highly optimized fresh, relevant, quality content with grade "A" moz ranked pages and blog posts) 92 Facebook share 68 Facebook likes 13 Twitter tweets 420 Google+ plus 1's 2 "just discovered" in 60 days Images 25 (Alt tags missing: 0) inbound links - on 48 Root Domains Created - 2002-08-15 9 new indexed blog post so far in August / 19 new indexed blog post in July Whois SEO Score 100% AND YET IT HAS A ROOT DOMAIN OF "26" and page authority of 36 While I am sure there are many other factors as well; it still is hard to see where a "smaller guy" could ever be given an even opportunity to play in the same SEO arena. Could you help me understand better? I like to build a stronger marketing and optimization strategy as we are just beginning AdWord campaigns. | SEO Score | 100% |
