Redirect Chain Advice
-
Hi,
i hope you can help.
My site crawl is showing that I have a redirect chain on my home page. Basically it shows I am going from :
http: > https: > https://www.
I need everything to go from http:// and http://www directly to https://www. without the chain.
Below is a copy of the htaccess, can anyone see if there is an error in there that could be causing it.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]BEGIN WordPress
<ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]</ifmodule>END WordPress
In addition, i have seen that they have a plugin called
SSL insecure content fixer installed.
It is showing this under its status:
Array ( [HTTPS] => on [PHPHANDLER] => /usr/local/php70/bin/php [HTTP_X_REAL_IP] => 109.158.20.158 [HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO] => https ) I think possibly this might have something to do with the issue, any thoughts are appreciated Thanks

Hello there,
Actually, I think this article could really help you! https://www.danielmorell.com/guides/htaccess-seo/https-www-and-trailing-slash
Alternatively, if you want to get the rules right away, just copy below, change the "example.com" to your domain then it should be working.
Force HTTPS
Force WWW
Remove trailing / from file
Turn on rewrite engine
RewriteEngine on
Check if not directory and ends in /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (.+)/$If not a directory skip next RewriteRule
RewriteRule ^ - [S=2]
Check if HTTPS and WWW
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.(.*)$ [OR,NC]
RewriteCond %{https} offThis RewriteRule skipped if URI was a directory
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
This RewriteRule used if URI was a directory
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^ - [S=1]
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ https://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]Do note, this 301 redirect your URL to the version with trailing slash, and because Google sees the trailing slash and non-trailing slash version of your pages as a different page, you should be doing a 301 to the right one. Read more about it here: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-trailing-slashes-url-24943.html
Of course, you can choose to remove the trailing slash 301 redirecting, Moz doesn't redirect to either version, and they rank well. But sites like Neilpatel (they have unnecessary redirects) and Backlinko does redirect, and they rank well too. So it's up to you if you want Google to help you identify which version you prefer or you tell Google yourself.
Finally, you can use this tool to check if your redirects are working as you expected: https://httpstatus.io/ (When you test, use a blog page or a specific page to test all the 8 variations because trailing slash doesn't matter at the homepage, take a look at screenshots below)

Someone redirected his website to ours
Hi all, I have strange issue as someone redirected website http://bukmachers.pl to ours https://legalnibukmacherzy.pl We don't know exactly what to do with it. I checked backlinks and the website had some links which now redirect to us. I also checked this website on wayback machine and back in 2017 this website had some low quality content but in 2018 they made similar redirection to current one but to different website (our competitor). Can such redirection be harmful for us? Should we do something with this or leave it, as google stop encouraging to disavow low quality links.

Browser Cacheing - HTTPS redirects to HTTP
Howdy lovely Moz people. A webmaster redirected https protocol links to http a number of years ago in order to try and capture as many links as possible on a site we now manage. We have recently tried to implement https and realised that because of this existing redirect rule, they are now causing infinite loops when trying to test an http redirect. http redirecting to https redirecting back to http, etc. The https version works by itself weirdly enough. We believe that this is due to the permanent browser caching. So unless users clear their cache, they will get this infinite loop. Does anyone have any advice on how we can get round this? a) index both sites and specify in GSC that the https is the canonical version of the site and hope that Google sees that and removes the http version for the https version b) stick with http as infinite loops will kill the site c) ??????????? Thanks all.

Hi everyone, thanks for reading i have a website "www.gardeners.scot" and have the following pages listed in google site: command http://www.gardeners.scot/garden-landscaping-Edinburgh.htm & http://www.gardeners.scot/garden-maintenance-Edinburgh.htm however when a user searches for "garden landscaping Edinburgh" or "garden maintenance Edinburgh" we are in the rankings but google search links these phrases to the home page not to their targeted pages. the site is about a year old have checked the robots.txt, sitemap.xml & .htaccess files but can see anything wrong there. any ideas out there?

Multilingual Site and 301 redirection
Hey there awesome people of Moz I have this site that has many languages in it. The main language is English and my developer did the following www.example.com ( is the main site ) which redirects with a 301 to www.example.com/en if your geo location is supported by our languages then you will automatically be redirected to whatever language you have in your country but does the first language with is english have to 301 redirect to www.example.com/en ? I thought that the right way is to just leave /en at the root file. Thanks in advance

DNS or 301 Website Redirect
We are running a marketplace site, so we have thousands of vendors selling their products on our site. Each vendor has a Profile page and we are soon to launch a premium store-front that is white label. Many of these vendors will want to point a custom url to their premium store-front (which is a sub domain of the marketplace) and we are trying to get an understanding of how we should instruct them to point their url in a way that will give the main marketplace site the seo juice. We also want to understand what will show up in the address bar. Will it be their url or our sub domain? Will any of the marketplace seo juice boost their url local listing status?

301 redirects.
Hi everyone, I am having some issues with an a few dynamic URLs that are not redirecting; Example: http://www.example.com/shop-online?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=69164&category_id=303 I first tried to carry out a standard 301 which looked like this; Redirect 301 /longurlwith&category_id=303 http://www.example.com/new-url Which didn't work. After a little bit of research I added the following into the htaccess file; RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example.com$ [NC]RewriteRule ^/shop-online$(.*)$ http://www.example.com/shop-online$ [NE,L,R=301] Which caused the website to error 500 (Not cool). So now I am stumped. Any help would be really appreciated as I'm sure it's an easy fix but I can't quite my finger on it. Thanks in advance :).

Advice on Getting this site ranking?
Hi there I'm looking to optimise this site for SEO -> Gets about 3,000 visits per day but all from branded searches. Gets virtually no 'keyword searches' It's just a landing page at the moment. Would you recommend I integrate a blog with it, so we can start targeting more long tail keywords (free football game etc) Any thoughts/advice appreciated 🙂 Thanks Howard
