Search Console Crawl Errors/Not Found - Strange URLs
-
Hello,
In Google Search Console under Crawl > Crawl Errors > Not found I have strange URLs like the following:
https://www.domain.com//UbaOZ/
https://www.domain.com//UPhXZ/
https://www.domain.com//KaUpZ/WYdhZ/SnQZZ/MOcUZ/There is no info in Linked From tab.
Have you seen this type of error??
Does anyone know whats causing it??
How should it be fixed??Thanks for reading and the help!

Exactly - I would do the same and make sure to mark them as fixed. Also worth noting that if you have a lot of errors showing up, it could be easier to mark everything as fixed first and then check back in a week or two to get the actual bad URLs to appear versus having to go through a bunch that may or not be accurate anymore.

Hi Chuck,
I have seen something similar on one of my previous projects, where outsider domains have been redirected to the project itself. So spammycrap.tld/UbaOZ had a redirect to ourproject.tld/UbaOZ/ this way it was appearing in our Search Console error list.
I discovered it by going through all the backlinks from AHrefs and Majestic. If this is also your case, unfortunately, you cannot do much about it, especially if you do not have any control over those domains. What I did, I created a list of these URLs, and redirected them to a page on our project, which had a 410 status code.
Hopefully, this approach helps you.
István

URL String Tracking Question--Need help!
I am doing some research for a freelance project and found a URL receiving a decent amount of traffic from search with this url string after the normal page url (xxx.com/credit-card-counseling.aspx?match=e&query=debthelper.com&id=22097628847&id=1810807655) Is this some sort of GA tracking code? Why would it be used on that page to track organic search hits if that happens automatically? Would love some help figuring this out! Thanks,

Not found and Not followed Errors on Web Master Tools
Just noticed in web master tools that we are showing 150 not found errors on our site, the majority appear to be from old blog posts that have been deleted, is this damaging from an SEO perspective on a scale from 1-10? Also we have over 100000 not followed errors throughout the same site, is this damaging from an SEO perspective on a scale from 1-10? Thanks in Advance Andy

URL Re-Structure - Tracking success of it
Hi guys, I was wondering what would be the best approach to track the success of a URL restructure? What we plan to do is to implement the URL re-structure slowly by only having it on new pages which go live for property listings. Any previous listings will use the old URL structure. I thought it would be best to limit any potential problems by testing it on a smaller number of pages. So my question really is, what metrics should I be looking at to determine the success of this given the fact that we remove any property listings once they get rented or sold?

Google Analytics Site Search to new sub-domain
Hi Mozzers, I'm setting up Google's Site Search on a website. However this isn't for search terms, this will be for people filling in a form and using the POST action to land on a results page. This is similar to what is outlined at http://support.google.com/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1012264 ('<a class="zippy zippy-collapse">Setting Up Site Search for POST-Based Search Engines').</a> However my approach is different as my results appear on a sub-domain of the top level domain. Eg.. user is on www.domain.com/page.php user fills in form submits user gets taken to results.domain.com/results.php The issue is with the suggested code provided by Google as copied below.. Firstly, I don't use query strings on my results page so I would have to create an artificial page which shouldn't be a problem. But what I don't know is how the tracking will work across a sub-domain without the _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', '.domain.com']); code. Can this be added in? Can I also add Custom Variables? Does anyone have experience of using Site Search across a sub-domain perhaps to track quote form values? Many thanks!

Core audience, daily / weekly uniques
In Google analytics or site catalyst, is there anyway to target IP addresses to see how many of my daily uniques are daily, weekly, monthly and what % are just 'tourists'/'one-offs'? My site is a local news site... Or is there another way to find this info. I am trying to work out what my core audience is (that keeps coming back every day or every week). Kind regards

500 errors
We are accumulating a signficant number of 500 errors, now reaching 3000 URLs after only 2 months since the re-coding of our site in Expression Engine. I haven't gotten a straight answer re: implications or solutions... by default, suggesting that it's not of any consequence. History: The site was initially developed in EE (prior to that, an HTML platform) with a host of site issues. We then contracted an EE specialist to properly code the site. The 'new; site was released Sept 21st. I'd appreciate some guidance and recommendations, so I can go back in hand to the developer. What are the considerations or consequences, if any, for ignoring the 500 errors? What are strategies or solutions for removing them from Google Webmaster Tools and preventing future 500 errors? Thanks. Alan

Does using Google URL Builder override original source in Google Analytics?
During a free trial on Tatango, we send daily emails to customers to give them advice, resources, etc. We started using Google URL Builder http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=55578 to create individual links in each of these emails, but when the customer purchases a subscription now, the source in GA isn't Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. they are all showing up as the source we created using the URL builder for each email. Does Google URL builder override the original source in Google Analytic?
