Here are a few facts about image search....
Images can go in and out of the image search collection - especially if they are new to image search. New images can go in and out for a few months before they stabilize.
If your newly uploaded image is already in the image search index (but hosted on another domain), google might index it and then drop it once they realize that your image is a copy - even if your copy is a different size, or slightly different in some way. Precedence has a slight advantage.
Your image that has been on your website and in image search for a long time - even as long as a decade - can fall out of image search if the same or very similar image is uploaded to another domain. Precedence does not guarantee persistence.
If you are the copyright holder for an image and it is on another domain in image search, you can file DMCA against that other domain using the Copyright Removal form in your search console. To do that, log into the google account for your search console and go here. BUT, BE CAREFUL.... if your copyrighted image is on another domain, the provisions of fair use can apply, so before you file DMCA, have a good knowledge of the fair use provision (U.S. copyright law) before you start filing take downs. The owner of the domain that you file against can sue you in certain instances. I strongly suggest getting that education first, and if you have questions about specific items, check with a copyright attorney before filing.
If you are grabbing and republishing images from other websites or other sources and do not own the copyright for them you might get slapped with a DMCA. Many owners of copyrighted images (they don't have to be marked "copyright") will file DMCA against you and some of they will sue you. The owner might also complain to Adsense and get your account turned off if you are a habitual infringer.
Lots of copyright holders watch their images like hawks. Some use automated methods or services that monitor their images. A few of them make big bucks by suing infringers.
Google usually responds quickly when DMCA is filed, sometimes within a few hours, and almost always within a few days. They will sometimes warn you about fair use issues, but they might not. Google might also tell you to contact the infringing webmaster in some instances - especially if the image is on a really prominent site. Or, they might tell you to file with the host where the image is visible - they often do this with wordpress, typepad, pinterest and other domains protected by Safe Harbor provisions.
I am not an attorney and do not give legal advice. I have been advised by three different copyright attorneys. I find that they usually don't cost as much as you fear and they can be worth a lot more than you pay them. This is how good professional service providers should be.

Separate images (.jpg) or background images (.css) for list pages?
Hi, We all know that you should optimize your images as much as possible. We're talking about filesize, filename, alt tag, etc.... If we take a look at large websites with large listpages (overview pages / categorypages) I wonder, what the best practice is regarding images. What is your view on listpages / overview pages?

So, I'm talking about a page with 40 products in a certain category, or 25 holiday homes in a certain region. Is it negative / bad for SEO when using background images (which are loaded through CSS and optimizing the seperate elements is not possible) instead of using 'normal' optimized images (for example .jpg images wich do have optimized filenames, alt tags, etc..). Will it negatively impact listpages / overview pages?
What are your thoughts? Regards,

Right hand side Google Local profile image pulling from 3rd party site
Hello! When googling our company's name, the Google Local profile comes up on the right hand side with the reviews, address, phone number, etc. Those are all fine but the main photo being used is not the one specified in the Google My Business profile but it seems to be pulling from a 3rd party site that recently added a link and an image to our website. Why is this happening and can we specify the image that shows up? Your help will be very much appreciated!!!

Optimizing Images
I have realized that our images are way to big. I would like to resize them and upload back again but I am afraid to do it as every image in wordpress is uploaded and has own link and then all this links will be not found. Is there some other way how to do it without a plugin. Or it is not a problem that I will delete that old large images and then upload the new smaller? Thank you very much for any advice Iris

Image Duplicates - Does Google Penalize on this?
Hi Mozzers, I have some doubts on the images hosted on my site. I have a single image on the website coming from 3 different locations. The locations are: img.mydomain.com/site/default/serivces.jpg img1.mydomain.com/site/default/serivces.jpg www.mydomain.com/site/default/serivces.jpg Now, these 3 are the same images with the same Title (they currently do not have an Alt Tag). Now, the 2 sub-domains when opened without any internal URL, redirects to the main domain. For instance, if I access img.mydomain.com it 301 redirects to www.mydomain.com but if I access img.mydomain.com/site/default/serivces.jpg I will get the image and it does not redirect. I have checked Google Image search and the full path on the sub-domain of the image is being indexed and crawled by Google Image bot. Now, this is true for both the sub-domains which act as CDN for the images. If Google does crawl all the locations which have the same image, does it cause a duplicate issue for it? I know that if it was content, I would be in trouble but does image also has the same implications. I am planning for image optimization and faced with this situation. Any answers? Cheers,

How do I get google to index review sites for Google Places?
Some of our competitors are ranking higher than we are in google places due to a larger variety of review sites. Google is picking up reviews for them on certain review sites such as yelp.com or projectwedding.com. We have a lot of reviews on those sites also, but google is not picking those reviews up for us. I checked and verified that the phone number and address is exactly correct and has the exact same formatting on all the sites, but google still hasn't picked up those reviews for us. I've waited a couple months now and still nothing. Is there anything I'm missing?
