Is facebook and twitter always a good idea to promote a website and improve Google rankings?
-
I'm attempting to promote a fresh seafood market / restaurant here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. I have not found a lot of examples of people using Twitter and Facebook to promote this type of business here.
Is it hard to justify the time for return here?
One benefit I thought for twitter is we could have tweets displayed on site giving us some dynamic content which would hopefully keep Google spider coming back more regularly is this correct?
Is there any link building advantage to using these social media sites?

I live in Vancouver Canada and there is no shortage of businesses using Twitter here. We are a bit of a hotbed of SM use. There are plenty of businesses who don't get it and are really stinking the joint up with bull horn techniques.
On the other hand there are some that are really killing it. Plenty of restaraunts, gellato shops, bars etc are all doing a great job by being part of the culture and dialogue that goes on.
Sounds like you are intimate business that deals with your cutomers face to face. Treat social media with the same caring and general interest in your customers, neighbours and community that you do in your everyday face to face interactions.
Make it about everyone else by making them better for having lent an ear to what you have to say. They can pick up a local flyer and see whats on special. But they can get so much more from you being human.
Like others have suggested tie in helpful tips to utilze the products you provide, make them better users of your product by makng them 'smarter'.
But also lend sometime to making your followers smarter about the happenings outside your shop that may be of interest. Or just putting out 'good vibes'.
Set up a search to notify you of certain terms within a distance of your location and reach out to these people. Maybe someone is looking for a great tuna recipe or maybe someone caught a big fish while out on the water for the day. Reach out to these people, be human and lend a hand to give them a pat on the back. Make a connection. Go beyond selling fish.
Then you'll sell more fish! More importantly you'll become closer to many great people who want to help you in return. And then you'll sell even more fish. But remember selling fish is a by product of being a great digital citizen.

Using Twitter for Linkbuilding - Wil Reynolds

I particularly like this idea, "For instance, why don't you use your Twitter account, spread the knowledge of it also offline to your real customers, and than use it really as a for real time communication about your products with them. E.G.: "I have just received a wonderful bluefin tuna. Want to know what do it with it (link to a recipe with bluefin tuna on your site)"." Thanks.

If others do not use well Twitter or Facebook... well, try to take a competitive advantege using them... but thinking out of the box.
For instance, why don't you use your Twitter account, spread the knowledge of it also offline to your real customers, and than use it really as a for real time communication about your products with them. E.G.: "I have just received a wonderful bluefin tuna. Want to know what do it with it (link to a recipe with bluefin tuna on your site)".
That way:
-
you have a link to your site on a tweet that could be retweeted;
-
you are communicating to your customers that you have a real product that they can buy for real in your seamarket or eat at your restaurant... maybe some will enter your site and reserve a place.
Ciao

Should UK websites expect any benefit from using Google+?
In several places, Google+ is talked about as something that should be used to help improve the SEO of websites and to engage better with audiences. The problem I am having with this is that these sources are usually from America, and that people I've spoken to in the UK don't even know Google+ exists. So what I'd like to know, does Google+ give any sort of benefit to UK businesses in terms of SEO, even though it seems it's a platform used mostly in the USA?

Can Hootsuite Really Monitor Competition Activity Across the Facebook, Linked & Twitter?
I'm going round and round in circles with this one as everytime I ask Hootsuite they tell me the same thing and it does not work so here we go... I want to monitor another competitors social media activity. Specifically i want to see if they are active in Facebook, Twitter & Linked in. But am i right in saying you can only monitor social activity of a competitor if you can connect Hootsuite to there social media account via a stream. Put another way imagine Lacoste say - "Right give me a report on what Nike is doing on facebook". Is Hootsuite useless unless you can connect it to Nikes Favebook business page? My misery is best explained by this url - http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/tracking-via-hootsuite-3jpg_zps2fa47469.jpg If Hootsuite has this limitation then whats the point in Hootsuite promoting itself as a socail listening tool when as soon as you want to monitor a competitor you hit the proverbial brick wall. Maybe I'm using the wrong tool & hootsuite is limited or I'm a bit thick & it can be done. Any help welcome, I'm likely to be see jumping out of an office window in a town near you very very soon 😉

Google+. Good for all businesses?
Hi guys, My question/discussion is regarding Google+ and whether or not I should advocate creating an account for one of the websites I work in-house for. This particular website focuses on unlock codes for mobile phones and isn't a service that consumers would really want to connect with - which is what Google+ appears to be a vehicle for. It is a one off purchase website, and not something people will use regularly. On the face of it Google+ offers very little for a company that operates in this fashion and makes most sense for B2B businesses. I feel that by potentially creating a Google+ presence we are in fact attempting to manipulate the search rankings because it isn't a networking site that makes sense for our business and there is actually very little real reason for us to get involved with it. I don't think Google would penalise any business for getting involved in their product, but we would only be using it to benefit our ranking position. Surely that is against everything Google themselves stand for? Also, what real benefits have you guys got out of using Google+? If I am to create a presence there, this is the ammo I'll need to use to convince my manager with. Thanks a lot.

Contacting Facebook
Does anyone know how to make meaningful contact with Facebook??? Last month I tried to set up a couple Facebook PPC campaigns for a couple clients only to find out that I can't because another client of mine for whom I set up a Facebook PPC campaign last fall has an outstanding balance of a whopping $30. To be clear, I was only an admin on the client's Facebook page. Their credit card (not mine) was in use, and they didn't pay their bill. So now, Facebook is holding that against me. I've contacted them through one of the help forms on the site. They clearly don't understand where I'm coming from. I've now sent them 3 emails, and now I'm not receiving a response. I just recently resorted to sending a direct message through Facebook to Facebook Marketing. No response. It really does boggle my mind how they're penalizing me, and in turn, my clients, because another former client of mine from nearly a year ago has a $30 balance. I'm not even an admin on the one client's Facebook page anymore?! With AdWords, I regularly have clients who owe Google money but that doesn't affect all of my other clients.

Google + Buttons
Is the following entirely correct? What would you add or subtract?: Google+ is making its presence known in the Google search results. One of the main benefits of using Google+ for your business is that your Google+ posts are indexed in Google. The more you post, the more likely your content will show up in search results. Things you can do today that will improve your visibility using Google+: Optimize your "About" page. Add keywords to your Google+ profile and links to your website using keywords as anchor text. Add links to your website, social networks, and blog in the "recommended links" section on Google+ page. Add a link (or icon) to your Google+ page on your website, blog, social networks, and your email signature. Add a +1 button to your website. The number of +1s a page gets will show up in the search results, even if a searcher is not logged into Google+. Announce your new Google+ page everywhere you communicate online, encouraging people to add your page to their circles. Your content will rank higher for specific keywords in search for those who have a connection to you on Google+.
