SEO value of 301 redirects from non-existent sites.

I have a question about an SEO tactic. There is this site that has purchased three domain names, and has redirected them to their main site. The three domains are: Spokaneduilawyer org, Spokaneduilaw com, and Spokaneduilawfirm com and the website has all three domains redirecting to their main site. What is the SEO value with this? I looked at those three domains on Majestic and they have no backlinks that I could find, and when I looked on archive.org I didn't see any history of those domains being actual sites that might bring traffic. What is the webmaster trying to do, and what is this tactic called?

There is no SEO value in redirecting Exact Match Domains (EMD) to your current and primary domain.
A long time ago (3-4 years) it was a tactic that allegedly helped in rankings for the terms contained in the redirected domains.I guessthat they are trying to secure those domains and don't let competitors have it.

We've built a bunch of backlinks for our old website, which now redirect to the new one, and I was wondering if these still contribute to SEO? Redirecting dofollow, high-domain-authority links from one site to another: good idea?
I have two sites that offer help for freelance writers. The first gets almost no search traffic and is very low priority for me. The second is my main priority and gets substantial search traffic. The low-priority site has a significant number of dofollow backlinks from high-domain-authority sites. Is it a good idea to 301 redirect these links to similar/related posts on my high-priority site? Would this potentially boost the SEO of my high-priority site? Thanks for any help!

New to SEO, looking for advice.
Good day. I am fairy new to SEO and a lot of things about how google ranking works is very confusing to me. For example i do not understand why websites that are not optimized score 1st positions. Currently i am working on optimizing http://logiunvarti.lv/ for google.lv. I would like to ask if i am going in the right direction as far as on-page optimization and any kind of suggestion would be very welcome. Another roadblock i have reached is link building. Latvia is not a big country and most of the websites on similar topic as my are either competitors and are have low domain authority, dead for years, or simply ignore emails. Would social media be a decent alternative? I feel like i am missing a crucial point on SEO in for my country. I would be extremely grateful for any advice or if possible to contact me on skype for a better explanation on my problem.

Are links from BBB on non-accredited business pages helping SEO?
I've been doing a lot of research on BBB and the site's value. I know you have to pay for accreditation as well as a link, and most search engine optimizers says it's worth it. I added a company to BBB in October, but I did not pay for accreditation or a link, and yet a link still appears on the business' BBB page. Is this link still a followed link? Does Google view it as an important link? If a non-paid link on BBB is still good, I don't see too many more benefits to BBB accreditation than the trust factor and possibly gaining an A+ ranking.

Article submission web-sites and SEO
Does article submission web-sites have any impact to SEO in these days? There are a lot of good/not so good article submission databases, but does it really matter if you spend a time to write unique articles for them? I mean, is it a good way for link-building, or should I spend more time for other parts of SEO? There are also a special websites (for example SubmitYourArticle) which automate this process, does it make sense to use this services? Alternates? Ad banner from news site
Hi Everyone, I have a company calling me about adding a banner for our business on a news site for a monthly fee. The fee includes the banner and a profile page. The domain authority for the news site is high (84) but the profile page that it links to actually goes to a 3rd party site (DA=65). It is from this page that I could link back to our site. Aside from the marketing value of the 250x300 ad on a page that gets a ton of traffic, would it be better to link back to our site from the profile page on the 3rd party site or directly from the banner on the news site? How should I promote my local service site?
I am in the process of promoting my local service site at http://winecountrycarpet.com and I was wondering what you guys would recommend? i have submitted to a lot of directories and get any backlink I can. I have also started writing articles and submitting them to sooper articles and Ezine articles, but I feel like I am doing something wrong. I am open to any suggestions.
