Target Search Terms Changed - does this affect traffic?
-
We spent the last 12 months targeting a particular search term (mortgage broker) and have been ranking well for it consistently for about 6 months now. We have decided to change the target search term to something else (insurance broker) but noticed that our traffic has started to decline since we started doing this.
We are still ranking well for the initial search term, and our ranking is slowly improving for the new targeted search term in SERPs but traffic is down about 60% from January. Is it normal/expected for this to happen?
-
Ok, it is difficult without a full set of data.
But if traffic has dropped and not rankings, then it is seasonal. Mortgage Broker is a big term, so if that is still ranking 1 then sounds ok.
What does sound concerning, is it now sounds like you have a number of sites and they could be interlinked ie a PBN.. so have to factor same in.
It is tough to advise, but my view is if rankings have remained the same and online visibility if you are tracking - then all is good. If rankings for mortgage broker and visibility have declined then it is a problem and site audit should be undertaken asap.
Not sure that helps, as data sets not great, but hopefully a starting point.

The first decline was from Jan to Feb, where traffic dropped by 33%. Feb - March, there wasn't much of a change, March to April it dropped by 56%. This was potentially seasonal due to Easter, as all our other sites also experienced a drop in April but they all recovered in May, except for this site which is still down approx 50% from March.
We are targetting the new search terms on different pages to the original search term.

Hi
On traffic decline there have been some major updates, August last year, March 12 and June 4 this year. Do any declines or changes in rankings co-inside with those dates? Or does the decline date within days of site changes?
Secondly, are you targetting these terms on the same page or on different pages?

In my experience, I would expect it to recover assuming that the page is optimised for that the new keyword, that the said keywords are on a new page & that some link building activities are undertaken.
Do you have the URL for me to browse?
-
The business does mortgage broking and insurance broking. We focused on getting "mortgage broker" to rank first, as that is what we were predominantly known for, but now we want to get our name out there for our insurance services too.
Our ranking for "insurance broker" hasn't gone up enough to make up for the drop in traffic. In your experience, do you expect the drop in traffic to last, or will it slowly recover?
-
Sounds like normal behaviour to me, why did you change the focus & how much has Insurance Broker has gone up - has it made up for the drop?

Authority site targeting multiple similar keywords
Hi! I found a niche I'd really like to work on. I was initially targeting a longtail keyword but there are so many available for this niche I decided to just make an authority site instead. My plan is to have multiple pages with each page targeting a separate long tail keyword in the niche. There's probably going to be over a 100. Let's say for example it's an organic gardening niche. The website will be setup for the entire niche and the page titles will be structured as such: Best Organic Gardening Soils Best Organic Gardening Tools Best Organic Gardening Seeds I'd prefer it to be setup this way so I can target traffic for the term with and without "best". I'm wondering if this sounds a bit spammy or is acceptable? Any other ideas as far as targeting similar longtail keywords in the same niche on a single site? Thanks so much!

My page was removed from Google search result, any idea why?
URL: http://id.gamesinasia.com/review-smartphone-xiaomi-mi3/ Hi, So last week I wrote a review about a smartphone and after a couple days my post was at 6th (first page) in google search result. But yesterday it was suddenly disappeared from google search result (not even in 10++ page). Normally I just have to wrote title page + games in asia, like "review xiaomi mi3 games in asia" and google will show me the post but now it wont even show. In fact two other site that simply scrap my content was showing on 1st and 2nd result! More info: All the content was original, including the image. We are also Yahoo (Indonesia) content partner so my review also ends up in yahoo site ( https://id.berita.yahoo.com/review-xiaomi-mi3-sebuah-angkatan-baru-dunia-smartphone-121537236.html) I'm not expecting a super high ranking, but google is punishing the page and I have no idea why. Thanks!

How do I find out what low-volume keywords are best to target?
Since many of our products and services are purpose-built for a niche community, I find that many of the keywords I am researching are all low-volume. Data on the Keyword Difficulty Tool show '0' under Bing Search Volume (exact match). I know what my competitors are targeting based on their title tags and web content, but I'm not sure if they did their keyword research homework, so I don't want to assume. Is there any other way to determine which keywords I should be targeting?

Does adding the suffix "-ing" affect ranking for a keyword? E.g. "build" vs "building"
In other words, let's say the keyword I wanted to rank for was "building a home" but the SERP only showed sites ranking for "build a home". If I specifically optimized my page for "building a home" would that increase my chances for ranking for "building a home"?

Why does Google adwords tool shows different search volume
I am not able to undertand the difference in search volume for same keyword under different heading. Let me make it clear. When i enter "Drupal Developement" in adwords tool, at the top, it shows Search term (1) Keyword Global monthly searches drupal development 390 Just below, it shows, Keyword ideas (100) Keyword Global monthly searches drupal development 40,500 I have selected the location U.S. My question is there is a huge difference in 390 and 40,500. Which is correct ?
