Need advice w/ keywords & content to get started with SEO on my own website
-
I am a real estate agent, marketing properties to Germans moving to / buying an overseas home in my country. I inquired with a few different SEO agencies and I cannot afford their services, $3000+ a month and my market is not huge as you will see in the search data below. So I will have to go ahead and do SEO on my own and will obviously need some help.
The space is not competitive which is awesome.
That's how the volume and competition look for the most popular (& broadest) search term is "immobilien countryname" (property countryname), according to Ubersuggest - attachment 1 (translation for reference):
- property countryname 1300
- property in countryname 480
- buy property countryname 260
- property countryname seaview 170
- buy property countryname 110
Here is an example of the top 10 searches for houses by volume. (Attachment 2 is a screenshot of the competition)
1. haus in countryname kaufen 720 $0.14
(house in countryname buy)
2. countryname haus kaufen 590 $0.36
(countryname house buy)
3. einfamilienhaus countryname haus kaufen 210 $0.45
(single family countryname house buy)
4. häuser in countryname kaufen 170 $0.29
(houses in countryname buy)
5. haus countryname kaufen 170 $0.46
(house countryname buy)
6. günstige häuser in countryname 110 $0.10
(cheap houses in countryname)
7. häuser kaufen in countryname location1 110 $0.22
(houses buy in countryname location1)
8. haus kaufen countryname meerblick 90 $0.20
(house buy countryname sea-view)
9. haus in countryname location2 kaufen 70 $0.03
(house in countryname location2 buy)
10. countryname haus am meer kaufen 70 $0.05
(countryname house near the sea buy)- the first 5 results are taken by big portals, just the top one has done any optimization at all
- as you can see the competition is pretty lame, just some of them are doing any SEO, pretty badly (including spammy links), still rank.
The way it seems, there are 4 main categories to optimize for:
- Properties
- Houses
- Apartments
- 'Move to countryname' information
Should I optimize my homepage for a 'property' term, 3 other pages for 'house', 'apartment, and 'info' terms?
How do I pick keywords to optimize for, esp. considering that they are basically the same e.g.:
- house in countryname buy
- countryname house buy
- house countryname buy
or
- property countryname
- countryname property
- property in countryname
...and should I pick just one?
What sort of content could I include in a "buy a house in countryname" type of page and how do I write around such keywords?
I am having an issue finding examples to follow as there is no competition to emulate and the other markets/countries are dominated by large portals which also seemingly get ranked based on size / authority.
Beyond that there is virtually no interest in the country = no traffic, besides general bs such as the language, the weather and such where there are a bunch of huge websites on the first page - so I am not sure what content could I use to drive traffic. I will come up with something, but there are no obvious ones..
My domain name is 1 year old, I have no links yet. Moz reports Page Authority 5, Domain Authority 2 for my domain.
I reckon that's enough for starters... Any input and ideas are more than welcome! Thank you.

I tend to always start with optimizing my homepage for the search term with the highest volume because homepages almost always have the most authority. So in this case, "immobilien countryname".
Then create a main page for "apartments", another for "houses", another for "single family homes", and another for "properties". I know I told you to optimize the homepage for "property countryname" but from a usability standpoint you'll want a property page that functions just like the apartments and houses page and not like a homepage.
As far as picking keywords to optimize for...just use the keywords that are grammatically correct and you can still rank for the different versions of that phrase that are not grammatically correct.
Type of content to include: Just think about what someone typing in that phrase would expect to see or would want answered and include that content.
**Biggest thing to remember: **Just start! Create pages and add content. Improve upon it over time. Monitor your rankings for all the phrases and test different title tags and content paragraphs to see what gets you the best rankings. All the while, spend time building links.

Is this keyword cannibalization?
I have a product page and our home page ranked for the same keyword. On August 6th the product page was ranked #14 then plummeted to #60. On August 13th our home page was in the #2 spot (line just appears out of nowhere) and it is now in the #1 spot. I also see the same pages appearing for some keywords ranked in multiple positions then plummeting and one coming back up. I'm having a hard time understanding how the Keyword tool in Moz is reporting exactly. Thanks! To add to this: From Oct 8th to the 15th we jumped up from #60 to #16 for one keyword and then by Oct. 22nd are back down to #60. I have a huge spike on the 15th. Wondering if that had anything to do with any algorithm updates?

Cheap/ Discount/ Value/ Sale Keywords
Hi, Does anyone have any experience in targeting cheap/discount/value etc keywords in an SEO campaign? I'm interested to find out: How Google perceives these keywords, as the search results are only very slightly different if you search with or without a 'cheap' keyword. Whether Google differentiates between 'cheap synonyms ie 'cheap' and 'affordable'. There are far higher searches for 'cheap' but affordable is much more user- and conversion-friendly. Thanks, Karen

Is there any value to meta keywords?
The more I read the more I realize that meta keywords are not as helpful as they once were. Is there any SEO value to meta keywords anymore or should the emphasis be put on the content and title tags in regards to keywords? As always, I appreciate any feedback.

Ranking Reports for New Keywords
I added new keywords to my campaign. They do appear in my ranking report. But I am not getting any ranking data on the new keywords. It looks like they are yet to be crawled. For my initial set of keywords, i see the specific rankings in each search engine and for some it says "not in the top 50." For the new ones all I see are zeros. Will the ranking data eventually appear?

Keyword cannibalization in ecommerce sites
I'm assuming this is a common problem in ecommerce sites. Lets say we have a "sleeping bags" which has all types of sleeping bags on it. Then build a brand page "The North Face" with a subpage for The North Face sleeping bags. Is it possible to target the sleeping bags page for "sleeping bags" while targeting the branded sleeping bag page for "The North Face sleeping bag"? how would you suggest doing this while avoiding keyword cannibalization?

Tittle + keywords = ?
Hi everyone so it's time for a refresh. I want to improve my rank for couple of terms on one page, so whats you recommend me. Currently I am thinking to go with option 1 and be as much specific to my main keyword, but at the same time I am not sure if I'll be able to link well for my 2nd keywords. Option 1 Term 1, Term 2, Term 3 - they are more or less related Tittle: Term 1 and Term 2 and Term 3 Keywords: term 1, term 2, term 3 Meta description: Term 1, la lalal mama term 2, ta da da lalaaas term 3 or Option 2 Tittle: Term 1 Keywords: term 1, term 2, term 3 Meta description: Term 1, la lalal mama term 2, ta da da lalaaas term 3
