Good Content Writing | How do I convince them?
-
Mozzers,
I work in-house for a large lead generation for matchmakers. We do really well with PPC and that will always be there. They will always do PPC but have hired me to do SEO. We're ranking really good for some competitive key phrases as well.
I believe in good content. I feel we should have a quality control for content just like we do before we run a a/b or a multivariate test. However there are people here who would rather pay $3 on oDesk for a article than a much higher price.
How have you convinced your bosses or your clients that good quality content is the way to go? I've hassled for good links and got in contact with some bloggers who are ready to let us Guest Blog who have never done so before.
What would you do?

Hi Brian - I can't really get behind the idea of cheap, non-targeted, non-value-add content that's purely to drive clicks for SEO. Here's my issue with that logic:
- Pay $3, get a crappy-mediocre article
- Build links to your site that come from non-authentic, non-editorially endorsed sources
- Earn a few rankings and start getting traffic from SEO
- SEO traffic is high bounce rate, low satisfaction, and low conversion
- The engines eventually discount your links because they're non-editorial
- The poor user/usage metrics from the high bounce rate (due to low content quality) affect rankings badly as well
- Endgame: You've spent a small amount but gained very little
Compare this to high quality content tactics:
- Pay $1,000 to get a single fantastic article, maybe including an infographic or at least some great visuals and compelling research, unique viewpoints, an author with a brand name, etc.
- The content naturally attracts links, social shares, email traffic, etc.
- The clicks on it from all sources stay a while, read it, share it, spread it further and add more value to the site
- Readers bookmark, subscribe to the RSS feed (they don't want to miss more articles like this one) and come back regularly, building your traffic over time
- Search engines rank the content well based on all factors - links, social stuff, user/usage data, content analysis, etc.
- Your rankings stay steady when others drop, and you win as the engines get better at identifying the "good stuff"
- Users who find/visit the page think more highly of your brand and are more likely to convert, take action, etc.
- Endgame: 1 great article is worth hundreds of mediocre ones, and the traffic is high quality and valuable too
I'd always aim for the absolute highest quality possible. A single fantastic piece of content can drive so much value to a business on the web that it's never worthwhile, IMO, to underinvest here.
Just my $0.02!

Is it better to develop a good keyword I found on a new page on an established website or make a new site?
So I found a keyword that I want to go after, it gets over 30k searches a month, has a 100% CTR and has a difficulty of 42. Now my question is would it be better to build a page on our already established site (DA of 46) since the site and keyword are both related. Or would it be better to get a domain of that keyword and build a small site about it? The .com is taken but I could get a .co or .us just not sure if its worth making a new site or if I should just build a page on my current site about it.

Is it better to have backlinks from domains with medium DA, UR, using same language and good relevancy, or backlinks from domains with high DA, UR but using another language and with less relevancy?
Dear all, while I understand that quality backlinks with high DA, UR, same-language and relevancy would be best, would backlinks with high DA, UR but less relevancy and using languages other than the one used in my website be something good? Or would they do more harm than anything else and still be outcompeted by backlinks with lower DA, UR but same language and/or more relevancy? Thank you Frank

Is This good practice.
We are a UK company but we would like to get listed on some USA business directories. If say we enter our company name, the first and second line of our UK business address but put a USA state and a zip code would this help us for SEO or is this classed as black hat trying to deceive Google. Thank you in advance for any help.

Is this a good way to create engaging content?
Hi all, I believe this is my first question in this forum, so be nice 🙂 I am an SEO consultant who has recently gone out and started my own SEO consultancy. Obviously, I now find myself in a place where I am trying to create good content for my website visitors. Maybe it's link bait, or more than likely it's a way to hold myself up as an expert in the industry, while providing visitors to my site some reason to keep on coming back. As I love whiteboard Friday, I did consider - and I'm not ruling it out in the future - creating my own whiteboard Friday videos discussing the SEO issues I was focussing on. In the meantime, I am thinking of posting up SEOmoz's whiteboard Friday videos and then making my own comments and insights for my website visitors. So, what I really wanted to ask - do you guys think this is a good idea, a valid way of creating good content and has merit/credibility? http://www.nustudio.com.au/local-seo-the-basics/ contains an example of what I am talking about. Cheers, Steve

Article Submission Old Hat or Still Good hat?
I have always used article submission sites such as ezine, article snatch etc... I have always seen the big ones as a good way of getting relevant content out into the internet network with the bonus of building quality links back. However I have now been reading a lot of conflicting information, since the latest update from Google that even an article being republished multiple times around the net will wipe out the positive impact of the article and bring no SEO benefit. I wanted to get feedback from the SEOmoz community to see if you now feel this is a pointless exercise and we should now be even more careful as to where our content is published.
