How can i check which inbound links to my site go to 404 pages?
-
I have external links coming into my site going to 404 pages, but i cant seem to find a way to search all broken links pointed at my website.
-
Nick,
I went to that wiki page, and clicked through the link. While the page does redirect to a page which contains content stating "404 Page Not Found", in actuality that page is giving a 200 response, not a 404. In order for any broken link reports to work, the page would have to actually return a 4xx response code (404, 410, etc.).
Here is the redirect path log from the Ayima plugin:
Status Code URL IP Page Type Redirect Type Redirect URL
301 http://www.africatravelresource.com/africa/tanzania/c/zanzibar/nungwi/ 104.26.7.235 server_redirect permanent https://africatravelresource.com/africa/tanzania/c/zanzibar/nungwi/

Hi There,
Thanks for the help. I hadn't checked here before so thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately it hasn't solved my problem.
Here is an example that wasnt showing up on the 4xx link.
Linking Page ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nungwi
Broken link on page : "Nungwi safaris, tailor-made vacations to Nungwi, Nungwi holidays - ATR". www.africatravelresource.com.
How can i find these types of broken links through Moz Link Checker?
I look forward to hearing from you
Best Regards
Nick

In Moz, within your campaign you can go to Links > Top Pages, and then choose the filter "4xx".

Should I link G+ and social accounts to internal pages?
Hi Gang, We are a multi-state law firm (Indiana, Michigan, New Mexico) that is looking to increase ranking for Michigan and New Mexico for 2015. (Michigan and New Mexico used to exist as subdomains under 2keller.com but have now been incorporated as pages under the main domain.) The question is whether or not we link directly to what we call the "main state pages" from various accounts like G+, FB, Yellow Pages, Yelp, etc.? For example, should we link from our New Mexcio G+ page to our New Mexico main page, or should it be linked to the main domain at 2keller.com where our general branding is on display? I seem to remember somewhere seeing a Whiteboard Friday or some other forum in which Rand had spoke to something similar. I believe he advised AGAINST trying to control the "user experience" for instances like these, but I can't locate same. I understand that clients/customers are looking for our main brand, but it would seem to be the better experience to get users in state specific locales to their state specific page. Am I thinking wrong about this? Thanks in advance! Wayne

Page Analysis - Helping Product Pages Outrank Search Results Pages
Hi! We have a lot of our search results pages that have been indexed and outrank our product pages and in some instance the actual product pages barely show up at all. Here is an example query that includes our brand name: http://goo.gl/cgB6W So, we have loads of actual product pages, video pages, etc that should be showing up here, but are not and this is just one example. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of these Search Results pages out there and utlimately we would love to de-index them altogether, but it's going to have to be carefully done. So, was wondering if anyone would want to check out one of our product pages and give any feedback as to what we could change to possibly improve rank or to make them more search friendly or hopefully to help them rise above these indexed search results pages? Here is an example product page: http://goo.gl/2R4IT Thanks!! Craig

10 Mobile Pages. 5 Desktop Pages. Canonnical to where?
I have a mobile site with more pages than the desktop site. Normally I would just point the page equivalents to the desktop site using the rel canonnical tag. What about the 5 pages? Do I just leave them be? Thanks

Removing Tag Cloud to Decrease the number of On-Site Links?
I have website which has a tag cloud at the footer. This tag cloud or tag box has about 40 links pointing to different words(tags) pages. I believe that the tags are hardly ever clicked on by visitors, since its at the footer. If the tag cloud is removed would this decrease the number of on-site links? According crawl diagnostics summary I have 195 pages with too many links. Would removing it help? And what kind changes can I expect if they removed (seo wise)?

If I have too many on-page links can I reduce it with nofollow tags or do the links have to be removed?
On my site I have a top nav drop down menu but once visitors go to one particularly large subsection, that menu is repeated on the left for easier viewing. As a result, I shoot over 100 links on page. Can I put nofollow or noindex tags on the left side links and reduce my "official" on-page links count or do I have to actually eliminate some of the links? Thanks, Oak

Site wide internal links in footer
What is your take on site wide inernal links in the footer, e.g. for the most competitive keywords? Do you think those links are still useful or are those links of little value from your experience? It is an old school tactic but I still see many sites doing it.
