Does Exact Match Domain really works?
-
Hey!
I heard that exact match domain is helpful in ranking over popular keywords. I have two websitesMy question is, will it be helpful to rank over Tech Crunch and SmallSEOTools, respectively?

@gujjarshb I don't think so - no penalties for EMDs. But maybe for putting links into comments where they don't make any sense....

@ayofztk it doesn't work. Just google tech crunch and only tech crunch domain has tech crunch in domain name. A little special here, that's a navigational query.
You can rank with an EMD when the content is good enough, the popularity is good enough. Just a Keyword in a domain name doesn't help. Going away from a .com domain to something like you did ".blog" is also not the best idea,
Is google penalize that site which has EMD domain ? I listen it from many people. So kindly share your opinion.

Agree with previous answer.
Maybe (just maybe) for a low competition niche (local seo or little searchs) you can find a .com ans easily position it.
But for any interesting web or kw nowadays I would say it does not matter. These examples are very hard kw and just with a emd you will get nothing. -

Which is more important - exact match on two pages with slightly similar content or completely unique content but no exact match?
I want to rank for two terms - one is the abbreviation and one is the actual phrase (think UX and user experience). Is it better to create two separate pages to benefit from the exact match keyword (given that the content is 51% unique) or should I work both the acronym and the phrase into one page? If I made the two pages, I could get in a lot more longtail keywords, however it's my belief that I should make one really robust page to ensure all possible link equity and user signals aren't split. Is this a valid argument or does the power of exact match keywords override the need for user signals?

How do you keep track of the keywords you're working on ?
Hello Moz community, Let's suppose you're working on a +600 pages website and you are working on lots of keywords. I'd like to know if you had a database / excel / tool to know which keywords you've been targetting so that you don't create twice the same content ? Thanks for your answers

Creating a Domain Specific Keyword Difficulty Score
Moz's Keyword Difficulty tool is great. Minus one thing... it does't take the domain itself into it's equation. Of course it doesn't take a lot of other things into consideration too like relevancy of domain but lets at least start with adding domain authority to the equation. I've come up with simple math that allows you to take the domain authority of the target URL into consideration. The Equation KD = Moz Keyword Difficulty
Keyword Research | | eyeflow
DA = Domain Authority
DS = Domain Specific Keyword Difficulty (KD/DA)*KD = DS Equation Applied URL: atari.com
Keyword: classic video games
KD: 69
DA: 77
DS: 62 (69/77)*69=62 You will end up with numbers larger than 100, but it makes sense. If your domain authority is 10 and you're trying to compete with a difficulty of 90 then you should be scared to compete for that term and the number should reflect that. Thoughts? Other ideas?2 -
Are Meta Descriptions Really Necessary?
We use them for some of our key landing pages, but for the majority of our pages (product pages, really) we let Google decide what to use for the meta description. These pages get a lot of medium to long-tail traffic and I feel like Google is going to do a better job of inserting bolded, keyword rich text from the page content and generating a better CTR than if I were to plug something in there myself. Would I be better off optimizing the the description for more of a direct match keyword instead of doing what I'm doing now (using Google generated descriptions to optimize for medium to long-tail keywords)?

Thoughts on exact match domains to keywords? If your domain isn't an exact match, do you recommend buying another domain and getting a 301 redirect?

Broad Match and Exact Match
Using the keyword tool Ive noticed theres Exact match and Broad Match , Exact match is always way less . Is exact match only when a person puts the keyword in quotes? or is that the number of times when a person puts in the exact keyword. ? I see that google adwords only puts the broadmatch.

Do building sites on expired domains help?
Many times I have wondered whether building sites on expired domains, which are sold at popular domain auction websites like TDNAM(Godaddy),SEDO etc. Is it of any worth ? Buying domains with existing parameters such as PR,Alexa ranks etc. and already indexed pages where these expired sites rank on keywords which one is looking forth and then building sites on these domains to promote your other sites. How successful would this trick be?
