Google omitting some entries
-
Hi,
I used this tool to test some domains. The tool can be found at
http://www.virante.com/seo-tools/duplicate-content
I have no questions about the other checks but with the similarity check.
My question is how do i get Google not to omit some entries very similar to the top 1000 pages on my site?
Will appreciate your answers, thanks.

Good response Ryan thank you once again.

I am trying to be helpful here. Your original question did not mention anything related to optimizing content. It sounds a whole lot more like you want to manipulate search engines into indexing your duplicate content. I've re-read your question a couple times and that is the only way I am able to interpret your question.
There is not a hard rule in that regard. Google will examine the percentage of duplicate content. They will understand rewording of the same content and view it as a duplication. You need to make the second page truly unique. The best suggestion I can offer is ask a second person to write a page on the same topic without allowing them to see the first page.
You can ask 5 people to write an article on the "Ford Mustang" and you can receive 5 completely different, unique articles. One could focus on resale value, another on the history of the mustang, another on racing, etc.
If you ask one person to reword the same article so it can be indexed a second time, you wont be happy with the results. Even if you do manage to get it indexed, you are one Panda update away from posting the famous "why did my rankings drop" question.

Thank you for your contribution Ryan
I am quite aware of writing for readers and always putting them first in everything beside that's what the search engines are interested in isn't in? I mean the readers finding quality relevant content through their engines.
What i am interesting after satisfying the first and primary part is optimizing the content for search engines, isn't that what SEO is all about? If most are providing quality content, all still have to compete for the limited top positions available isn't it?
Thank you for the feedback, will appreciate any other contribution.

You would need to change the content enough to where it was not seen as a duplication of the original information. You need to think of users and ask if they read the first article, what would make them want to read the second article?
If you are trying to reword the article for search engines, you are in the wrong mindset. Think of your readers.

Does Google ignore duplicate meta descriptions?
Hi there SEO mozzers, I am dealing with a website that has duplicate meta descriptions (we know is bad).As a punishment, Google totally ignores the meta descriptions and picks content from the website and displays it in SERP. I already read the https://moz.com/blog/why-wont-google-use-my-meta-description but I was wondering if there is more information/knowledge out there. Any tips are appreciated!

Google's Knowledge Panel
Hi Moz Community. Has anyone noticed a pattern in the websites that Google pulls in to populate knowledge Panels? For example, for a lot of queries Google keeps pulling data from a specific source over and over again, and the data shown in the Knowledge Panel isn't on the target page. Is it possible that Google simply favors some sites over others and no matter what you do, you'll never make it into the Knowledge box? Thanks.

Google User Click Data and Metrics
Assuming that Google is using click data from users to calculate rankings (bounce rate, time on site, task completion, etc.) where does Google get the data, especially from browsers that aren't Chrome?

Google not displaying meta description
Hi, one of my clients is receiving the following error in SERP - "A description of the page is not available because of this site's robots.txt". The site is built on WordPress and I realized that by default, the settings were checked to blocks bots from crawling the site. So, I turned it off, fixed robots.txt and submitted the sitemap again. Since, then it's been almost 10 days, the problem still exists. Can anyone tell me what should be done to fix it or if there's a way to get Google to recrawl the pages again.

Does including your site in Google News (and Google) Alerts helps with SEO?
Based on the following article http://homebusiness.about.com/od/yourbusinesswebsite/a/google-alerts.htm in order to check if you are included you need to run site:domain.com and click the news search tab. If you are not there then... I ran the test on MOZ and got no results which surprised me. Next step according to :https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/40787?hl=en#ts=3179198 is to submit your site for inclusion. Should I? Will it help? P.S.

Not ranking in Google - why???
This will be a bit long, so please bare with me. I have a client in the auto parts industry who wants to rank their homepage for 13 different keywords. We are ranked first page for all keywords in Yahoo! Mexico and Bing Mexico, but not ranking first page at all in Google Mexico. My client's competitor, however, is clearly outranking my client in Google. When comparing both pages, my client's, while not 100% optimized, looks better optimized than their competitor's. Looking at all metrics using Moz, SEMRush, ahrefs, etc... my client's site looks MUCH better on all fronts. I know ranking a single homepage for more than 10 keywords is a difficult task. Our competitor is however, ranking for them, so it's not impossible. The keywords are not even that competitive according to Moz's analysis. I decided to create an optimized page for each keyword to try to rank these pages, but still my client wants the homepage to rank (again, if the competitor is ranking, then it's possible to do this) and I am afraid these pages I created could result in keyword cannibalization ultimately affecting the homepage's possibility to rank. My client had a previous SEO agency working for them and basically all they did was create fake blogs and have lots of keyword rich links directed to the site's homepage. I got the complete link profile from several tools and submitted a disavow requests for as many fishy links I could find, but that hasn't shown any results so far. Note: when looking at the competitor link profile, they have basically just a few links and no external links of real value whatsoever. My client is obviously very frustrated, and so am I. In my SEO experience, it shouldn't be such a difficult task to accomplish, however nothing seems to work even though everything seems to point that my client should rank higher. So now I'm running out of ideas regarding what to do with this site. Any insight you could provide would be SO helpful to me and my client. If needed I can provide my client's homepage URL and also their competitors homepage for you to review. i can also give you any extra information you need. Thanks a lot!

A couple of our main domains have disappeared from Google
I work with a company that has way too many domains. Over the last year or so I have been working on consolidating them, and removing duplicate content. Yesterday I did Google search for a couple terms that we are normally number one for, and we don't show up anywhere in the first 300 results. I see no warnings in Webmaster, and I can see that this happend a couple days ago. Here are the domains that have gone missing:

www.gaso.com
Desc: Tons of good info about Gaso Pumps
Tems: Gaso, Gaso Pumps www.gasopumpparts.net
Desc: Part Lists for specific Gaso Pumps
Terms: Gaso Pump Parts www.IEQindustries.com
Desc: Company Website
Terms: IEQ Industries Here are some domins that still show up:
www.wheatleygaso.com
Desc: Searchable Pump Catalog with pump specs www.wheatleypump.com
Desc: Used to be a "duplicate" gaso.com, but mostly has links to gaso.com now. www.trenchless.org
Desc: An old incomplete site We also own a bunch parked domains that we created a generic landing page for, like:
http://www.gasopump.co/
http://www.gasoparts.co/ Many of the sites are on the same VPS server, not sure if that is causing a problem. To me it shouldn't matter, we are not trying hide anything. The sites with content serve different purposes, but we are working at consolidating them to simplfy things. The landing pages are mainly meant to park the extra domains we have. I am not terrible concerned as we are offering legitimate products and services, and we are trying to do the right things, but my client is very concerned. My question is this, what is your best guess as to what happened, and what should I change? Thanks in advance!

Canonical links apparently not used by google
hi, I do have an ecommerce website (www.soundcreation.ro) which in the last 3 months had a drop in the SERP. Started to look around in GWT what is happening. Google is reporting a lot of duplicate meta-tags (and meta-titles problem). But 99% of them had already canonical links setted. I tried to optimize my product listings with the new "prev", "next" tags and introduced also the "view-all" canonical link to help Google identify the appropiate product listing pages. SeoMoz is not reporting thos duplicate meta issues. Here is an example of the same page with different links, but with the same common canonical and reported by GWT "duplicate title tag": http://www.soundcreation.ro/chitare-chitari-electroacustice-cid10-pageall/http://www.soundcreation.ro/chitare-chitari-electroacustice-cid10/http://www.soundcreation.ro/chitare-chitari-electroacustice-cid10_999/http://www.soundcreation.ro/chitare-electro-acustice-cid10_1510/What could be the issue?- only that gwt is not refreshing as should be, keeping old errors?- if so, then there is an other serious issue because of why our PR is dropping on several pages?- do we have other problem with the site, which ends up with google penalizing us? Thank you for your ideas!
