In 2 days, a loss of 20 reviews
-
Hi Mozers,
I have a cosmetic dentist client, in Belgium, who had 95 reviews. And in 2 days, he lost 20 good reviews (10 reviews per day), from real customers. The problem is that his rating went down drastically because they were only 5 star reviews.
Yesterday he got a 5 star review from a real customer and this morning he disappeared.
Have you ever experienced such a scenario? What could be the cause?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind regards,

I am trying to build reviews for my solar installers near me client. What are the best review software and SEO strategies to boost reviews?
-
This has happened to me on occasion, they should eventually turn back up in my experience (except Yelp is pretty harsh)
-
@jonathanleplang yeah they will do that - remove them until they can verify - if they take the time to verify. They are preserving their reputation as. a reputable platform with real reviews. They can't tell the difference between real clients and fake ones - so they remove all suspicious ones. - including past ones b/c once something becomes suspicious the whole thing does

@marketapeel Thank you for taking the time to read my problem and for posting a relevant response. I think that is where the problem lies. We sent his client listing the link to post a review on the clinic when before he only had 3 reviews per month. But the strange thing is that it was real customer reviews that were deleted and only the positive ones unfortunately.

@miriamellis Hi Miriam, Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and for posting these useful links. I never miss one of your inspiring posts.

@miriamellis Thanks for sharing these links.
As someone who worked in the online review world, I can say that a sudden increase in reviews - all good reviews - can trigger a red flag because it looks suspicious.
If you want to ensure you don't get flagged for suspicious activity, you need to ensure review activity looks plausible. If you have a huge amount of past customers and you are asking them for reviews, send out email requests for reviews in batches over an extended period of time so you are getting a few reviews a day and growing over time. Not a sudden spike.

With I knew how to make some of those DISAPEAR. I have a link textClient who has a lot of bad reviews and they are based on a manufacturer not honoring a warranty, not the [clients]((https://www.myfloridasolar.com) work. What Should I do?

@jonathanleplang Hi Jonathan, sorry to hear about your client's predicament. Review loss of this kind typically happens for two reasons.
One, there's a bug in Google. Check the Google Business Profile help community and Sterling Sky's Local Search Forum when review loss happens to see if others are reporting a similar experience. There have been historic periods in which Google has accidentally made reviews disappear and then reinstated them.
The second cause is that Google has removed the reviews because they became suspicious about the profile, for some reason. For example, here's a recent article about a business losing the majority of its reviews because of review gating: https://www.sterlingsky.ca/google-removes-hundreds-of-reviews/ and another about why new reviews might not be publishing: https://www.sterlingsky.ca/google-reviews-not-publishing/. Read those with the client and try to root out whether they might unknowingly be violating Google's guidelines (see: https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/7400114?hl=en#zippy=%2Cadvertising-solicitation%2Cfake-engagement)
If you are unable to discover the cause of what is happening, it's time to contact Google about the case. Good luck!

to improve this national company review/comparison website. We bring in experts in the industries we are writing reviews on. The writer creates the content including the high search volume and most relevant keyword phrases that people are searching for. We also make sure to match the intent of the keywords to Commercial intent for the content to ensure it matches our audience. How to optimize landing pages for local search?
I'm trying to understand how to optimize landing pages to appear in local search. For example, if someone in Chicago searches for "plumber", Yelp has a page "Top 10 Plumbers in Chicago." They are generating these pages for numerous business types and cities. I can't see anything on the page or metadata that indicates a geographic location or business type. What optimizations are they doing to get Google to know that it's a page for a specific city and type of business?

Disconnect MOZ Local and Google My Business
I've had problems with one of our eight branch locations when I connected GMB to Moz Local about a year ago. The location was suspended for being a duplicate. I would like to sever the connection so I could keep Moz Local live but at least temporarily delete the suspended Google My Business. Also, if you might have any guides or tutorials on performing this task it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Customer Reviews on Product Page / Pagination / Crawl 3 review pages only
Hi experts, I present customer feedback, reviews basically, on my website for the products that are sold. And with this comes the ability to read reviews and obviously with pagination to display the available reviews. Now I want users to be able to flick through and read the reviews to help them satisfy whatever curiosity they have. My only thinking is that the page that contains the reviews, with each click of the pagination will present roughly the same content. The only thing that changes is the title tags which will contain the number in the H1 to display the page number. I'm thinking this could be duplication but i have yet to be notified by Google in my Search console... Should i block crawlers from crawling beyond page 3 of reviews? Thanks

Unsolved Duplicate LocalBusiness Schema Markup
Hello! I've been having a hard time finding an answer to this specific question so I figured I'd drop it here. I always add custom LocalBusiness markup to clients' homepages, but sometimes the client's website provider will include their own automated LocalBusiness markup. The codes I create often include more information. Assuming the website provider is unwilling to remove their markup, is it a bad idea to include my code as well? It seems like it could potentially be read as spammy by Google. Do the pros of having more detailed markup outweigh that potential negative impact?

Beware of Fishy 4-Star Reviews
Hello to all our folks who market local businesses! I came across something this week that I felt was important enough to share. Hopefully, if you're a Moz blog reader or a Moz Local customer, you're already well aware of the importance of monitoring your Google My Business reviews on an ongoing basis, responding to them as they come in, whether they're positive or negative. And, you know to be on the lookout for spam reviews. But a strange new form of spam seems to be emerging that might be really easy to overlook at first. We're all familiar with the spammer who leaves you fake 1-star reviews for the purpose of harming your brand. But you might not immediately be suspicious of a 4-star review, or even a string of 4-star reviews until you realize your former 5 star rating has been whittled down by a succession of less-than-perfect, fake reviews. The worst thing, I think, about this tactic, is that it can be overlooked. Jason Brown has captured this phenomenon in his recent post: http://reviewfraud.org/4-star-negative-review-attacks/ and I highly recommend reading it and paying extra attention to any 4-star reviews companies you market may be receiving. I'd suggest, if you find this going on with any of the GMB listings you manage, you report it to Jason so that he can continue to track this activity. He's a Google forum TC, and, perhaps, with enough evidence, he might eventually be able to make a case to Google about this practice.

Schema.org problems with reviews
Hey Mozzers, Has anyone had problems getting review data to appear in the SERP? Specifically, hotel package reviews. The site I work for sells packages and products, but I'm having off cases where the data is appearing if there is only 1 review present. As soon as it gets multiple reviews the snippet data is no longer showing up. The schema.org markup is testing fine in the structured data testing tool, and when I compare it against competitor sites where the data is appearing, I can't see the difference. I am by no means a veteran SEO, but this doesn't make any sense to me. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? I could really use some help here. One of the pages I am having difficulty with: www.tripcentral.ca/vacations-packages_mexico.html }
