-
Hi, we have a company, and the business has a Google My Business and business citations created.
the manager, wants to be on first page of Google, in the organic results, for another city thats less than 10 miles away.
the business does not have two stores, just one business premises, any idea how we can improve the local/organic SEO for the second city and get on the first page of Google there as well?

Improving SEO in multiple cities simultaneously requires a strategic approach tailored to local search optimization. Here's how you can improve SEO in two cities at once:
-
Local Keyword Research: Identify relevant keywords for each city by conducting local keyword research. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ahrefs to discover keywords with local intent that are specific to each city.
-
Localized Content: Create localized content that caters to the interests and needs of each city's audience. This could include city-specific landing pages, blog posts featuring local events or attractions, customer testimonials from each city, and localized service pages.
-
Local Citations: Ensure your business information (name, address, phone number) is consistent and accurate across online directories, citation sites, and local business listings. Claim your Google My Business listings for each location and optimize them with accurate information, photos, and business hours.
-
Local Link Building: Earn backlinks from local websites, directories, chambers of commerce, and local news outlets. Participate in community events, sponsor local organizations or charities, and seek opportunities for guest blogging or contributing articles to local publications.
-
Schema Markup: Implement schema markup on your website to highlight local business information, such as address, phone number, business hours, and customer reviews. This helps search engines understand your business's location and improves visibility in local search results.
-
Mobile Optimization: Optimize your website for mobile devices, as many local searches are performed on smartphones. Ensure your website is mobile-friendly, loads quickly, and provides a seamless user experience across all devices.
-
Localized SEO Tags: Include city-specific keywords in your title tags, meta descriptions, headers, and image alt attributes. This helps search engines understand the geographical relevance of your content and improves its chances of ranking for local searches.
-
Customer Reviews: Encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews on your Google My Business listings and other review sites. Positive reviews not only improve your business's credibility but also signal to search engines that your business is relevant and trustworthy in each city.
-
Monitor and Analyze: Use analytics tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track your website's performance in each city. Monitor keyword rankings, organic traffic, and user engagement metrics to identify areas for improvement and adjust your SEO strategy accordingly.
By implementing these strategies consistently and monitoring your progress over time, you can improve your website's visibility and rankings in multiple cities, driving more organic traffic and leads to your business.

Hi there SEO agency owners
Hi, we are slightly baffled. We have amazing backlinks and good on-site SEO, yet we don’t rank on the first page for our main keyword, “SEO Cardiff.” Now we can't understand why we are not on page one of Google for this keyword? Can someone have a look at our site and tell us why? We think we have better backlinks than some of our direct competitors that rank for this term.

How Do You Think My Local SEO Multi-location Geotargeting Strategy Will Work?
I have a question. I just got a full-time job at Zavza Seal, an upstanding insulation contractor targeting neighborhoods of Suffolk and Nassau counties in New York. I was hired as an SEO content specialist. (Thanks Rand! You're one of my mentors~!) So, they handed me a spreadsheet of pages for city-specific terms, and they had a system in place for local rankings. But I was taught to do service-specific city pages a certain way. If the search term is for people looking for a service in that town, that's what you give them. However, I was told to proofread them, and as an SEO specialist, I couldn't keep my hands off of them. The pages were skimpy. (Example: h2, paragraph, bullets, short paragraph summary, short paragraph about the city.) What threw me off is that the content, while it was service specific, it was blog topics localized. Those are great (when long enough and optimized to compete in SERPs) but I've never seen them done on service pages. (Example: Why is Mold Remediation Necessary in Baldwin?. Now, this went in two directions in my mind. (and I wanted to do the best for the company, because I'm a wicked brat for teams, AND I get commissions on leads, so that was motivation, too.) 🐷 Anyway, 1. This could be a new approach and worthy of an SEO study on my startup site, where I take on part time clients after work, because I've never seen it done before and it could, if optimized for the target service and city rank high in SERPs AND build thought leadership and authority as a local expert. (Whereas city service pages in standard format would just promote your service. ..) What do you guys think? I just put the topic up for discussion for my team, asked them about it in detail and asked if they wanted to A'/B test a few to see what get's better traction organically. Mr. Fishkin was one of my mentors. I really wish I just had his number for this one LOL.

Why do SMB owners want more calls as a result of SEO, but don't answer 62% of them?
Working mostly with SMBs for 8 years now, we have gradually developed the notion that small business owners are hard to reach by phone. Our Customer Service agents spend hours unsuccessfully trying to reach business owners. If a potential customer calls the business, they'll have to face the same outcome. This means missed opportunities for both parties. Needless to say, one of the most important KPIs in local SEO is the number of generated phone calls...but no one's there to answer. We wanted to dig deeper into the matter, so we did a small study with 85 businesses. Results show that: 37.8% of calls are answered by a person. 37.8% of calls are answered by an answering machine, where no actual conversation (nor conversion) is possible, so we treat these calls as unanswered. 24.3% of calls are unanswered. We also gathered a list of possible solutions to the problem, but what we really need to know is WHY do business owners neglect such an important part of their business? And what resolutions can you think of?

Rank not improving despite best practises
Hi there, I have a photobooth hire company in and have been working on getting our site onto the top page for keywords relating to our service and location for almost a year now, but am really struggling to see rank improvement despite my best efforts. After a major penguin update back in mid 2014 I noticed that due to some bad practises from a company that we previously hired, our rank began to plummet. So in the aftermath of that, I found myself having to clean up and disavow a lot of spammy and broken links. This was back towards August last year and despite trying to "clean the slate" and continue to build better backlinks (mostly through reputable directories) I'm still getting little to know rank increases. Is there a possibility that the site is still being black listed by Google in some way and thus all my best practises for the last 6 months haven't really helped at all? Thanks

Local Seo Start Up?
Hi I've recently started a Web design and Local SEO business in the UK and would love some advice on best practices and resources to do best by my clients. The last thing I want to do is get their site banned or penalised by Google. In the past I have used article marketing to get 100s of backlinks but I understand it isnt that simple anymore.I might add that I always did SEO for my own sites, never offered it as a service to others. So, I'm less reluctant to take chances. From looking at the competition in the local market I won't have to get too many backlinks to outrank most other companies. Just need to get the right good quality links. I am fairly experienced with onsite SEO. ANy advice or relevant resources would be greatly appreciated.

SEO planning: Franchise/multiple local sites
I am in the planning stages of franchising a cleaning business and was wondering if anyone had some ideas on SEO strategy. If money were no object and I had a team of hundreds of copywriters at my disposal, would the ultimate solution be to have the following sort of URL structure www.cleanbiz.co.uk/city within which there are numerous www.cleanbiz.co.uk/city/local-town pages? If this is the best strategy then is it worthwhile to begin work towards ranking for cities and local towns within them prior to actually operating there? I understand that lack of physical presence will penalize me in terms of local search but would a lack of physical address and phone number render any foundation work pointless (for example, prior to having any franchises in say London, would it be worth while building quality content and links on a www.cleaningbiz.co.uk/london page, and then www.cleaningbiz.co.uk/london/notting-hill, alongside a blog and so on?) Interested to understand the best way to go about this given the enormity of the campaign! Thanks

2 Word EMD's - Good of bad for SEO
Hello Again Moz Folks, I have a domain: www.edmontonweb.ca
Local SEO | | Web3Marketing87
It is currently on page 2 and I'm trying to figure out ways to improve its ranking. Because it is an EMD, I considered forwarding it to www.launchwebdesign.ca Considering there is existing Domain Authority on edmontonweb.ca, is this a good move?
Would forwarding the domain transfer DA to launchwebdesign.ca? Thanks, Anton0
