Product Giveaways and No-Follow
-
If a blogger is given a product from a company for a giveaway contest on their blog, does Google require the link to the company have a no-follow.
This seems like a gray area but I can't find any guidelines put out by Google about this.
-
I too work with a lot of bloggers who are given products to review for the purpose of link building and content.
The UK has similar legislation which states the competition (or review) was sponsored and the relation between the blogger and the company is clear.
In terms of a 'no-follow' i haven't come across anything which states that the link must be 'no-follow'. I don't think these communities (such as the FCC) have come to understand the relevance of no vs do follow links, so I'd keep going with the follow links.

Google has no requirement for a no-follow..however the savy contributor would certainly want a do-follow.

I work with a lot of bloggers with giveaways as the company supplying them the products. The only guidelines I'm aware of are those by the FCC (if you're America). The FCC requires that you mention your contest was sponsored.

Do affiliate links to Amazon product pages boost those pages in the SERPs?
From casual observation, I believe that affiliate links to Amazon product pages, move those Amazon pages up in the SERPs. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Philosophically, I think that affiliate links should not be counted in the rankings, even if they have not been nofollowed. I think that Google and other search engines should be filtering these links because they are compensated. Thanks for your thoughts.

No follow external links
Hi all, Our blog utilizes a fair amount of guest blog articles. Each article includes a link to the authors site. Some memebers of our team believe it is best practice to no follow all of these links while others believe we should follow the links, Our page rank and domain authority are almost always much higher then the guest blogger's site so we want to know the pros and cons of nofollow vs follow of these links. Since the domain authority and page rank of guest blog sites are low will this have a negative effect on our site? They aren't spammy and are legitimate sites covering similar content. Any feedback would be greaty appreciated!

Can a No Follow Press Release harm you?
Hello I know that , in theory, a No Follow link should not be dangerous in any cause. My question is: Can a No Follow Press Release harm you? I watched the Matt Cutts Video about and was pretty clear that the answer is NO. I also read (Google Source) that all press releases should be no follow and with no rich anchor text. We agree till here, right? But what if the press release if part of a link network, bad quality or simply you have many many press releases from one of these PR networks? In this situation, the no follow link is still "safe" or do you think there is some danger? Im doing some "cleaning" and I would like to know your opinion about. Many Thanks for your help

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link
Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Sarah K.](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=)

Seo work for video production
Hi all, I'm about to start helping a friend who owns a video production company here in the UK. Currently he has a website with no real links. For "video production" / "video production companies" a lot of the top organic results have high number of links and according to the seomoz difficulty tool its coming in as hightly competitive 55%. Looking at the competitors there are lots of links to directories. Rather than taking this approach, do you think links to youtube for help videos, guest blogging, etc would be a more valuable strategy. He's never going to compete on linking root domains. Any help is appreciated.
