Promoting a Facebook Contest
-
Hi, Mozzers-
I'm running a contest for a client of mine via Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/barrettmoving. The prizes are great an iPad2 and an iPod Touch! The contest is pretty cool too. Basically it's a papercraft / travel thing that appeals to a wide range of people. Anyway, here's my question - I've started promoting the contest via social media, the website, online contests...like to get to promoting it on relevant blogs too. I'm in the beginning stages.
Any other ideas? Has anyone had luck with PPC or FB ads?
Thanks in advance!

oh! and if you do a steller job...they will call you to move out...engaged clients perhaps...
-
maybe, since it's back to school time and the kids are hearding back to school..A "Free Local" move maybe another option instead of an Ipad2 that they may have anyhow...Cause moving stinks...and Free moves rock the heeezy...
-
Hmm...remove the "gate" - interesting idea! The demographic is mainly families, women, more affluent (can afford pro movers), etc.
Thanks on the music! Just getting ready to play a gig tonight!

Thank you! Yes, definitely promoting to their current/past clients via email marketing - good idea!

You are a moving company? How about some olde school outreach...
do you have a mailing list of past clients (or even better if you use a service like mailchimp)..get buzz out about the contest.
piggy back your print ads with info about the ipad2 giveaway.
Dont forget to convert vistors into page "like"s
Good luck

Hi
Lovely idea with the papercraft, if a bit of a longwinded explanation in the video. Id give FB ads a go with a small budget
I am struggling to identify the target market tho, from the ad - so its hard to suggest specific avenues when its quite nebulous to me
I dont like the gated "like" before people get access to the papercraft. I would make that bit as open as possible for added reach and just ask them to like when they upload the video or to see oter peoples videos. To get around the gate, maybe identify some big blog people in the space and send them your papercraft with a personalised request to make one
Would love to see a seomoz post on how well this did for you after its finished.
like your music btw

I've used Facebook ads in the past to promote a contest. They were very effective in driving people to the contest; however, I'm not sure how many people were actually truly engaged with my company at the end of the day. The last big giveaway we did, I chose not to run Facebook ads because it didn't make sense for the type of giveaway I was running in that I couldn't figure out a direct benefit of paying Facebook for people to enter something they could enter for free.

Where do the Facebook star ratings come from?
I have a client whose FB page has a 5 star rating (apparently from 5 reviews) but I have no clue from where they are aggregated? I tried Google-ing for answers with no luck! Any idea? This is the page I am referring to... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Partners-in-Womens-Health-of-Jupiter-LLC/310303442400699?bookmark_t=page

Facebook Blocking Site
This is been a big annoyance for me. My site was on wordpress before and was infected with malware at one point. We were blocked by major AV, Google, and etc but we got the infection cleaned up quickly and got unblocked. Problem now is that Facebook, we are still blocked on. We try to post a link and says we are harmful. We got unblocked from facebook and we posted but than they blocked us again. We have submitted multiple requests on that form but got no answer. As a marketing agency, having our facebook page blocked to our site is bad. What can we do in this situation? We have no direct contact with anyone at facebook nor do they reply to our requests. I do own a .net to my domain, should we start using that instead of .com or what? We really need to find a way out of this. It is hurting our reputation.

Contest Outreach Strategy
Hello Mozzers, I've just started a contest in my own SEO blog, in which people will receive a full website audit, a keyword research plus competitive analysis, and an on-site audit. What I want from it is two things: Get a few testimonials for my upcoming SEO consulting services; Get more FB fans. As I know that my blog won't get too many tweets and shares per se, I have to manually outreach bloggers so they may tweet about my contest. What I've been doing up until now is saying: "Hey, my name is Ivan, I've got this blog and I'm running this contest. The prizes are these ones. I know your Twitter audience may be interested in this, so, could you tweet this? Thanks". In the email I already give them a tweet with the URL and everyhing, so they don't have to do anything, but copy and pasting. What're your opinion on this strategy? Do you recommend doing something else, like a more indirect approach, to contest outreach? Thank you very much!

Facebook Share from personal wall to fan page
Is it possible to share a post from someone's personal FB wall to a company fan page if they have the permissions set to allow this? I often get a message that a share was denied and I'm not sure if shares from personal to business fan pages are always denied or if this is controlled by the person's privacy settings.

Any facebook likes/shares/activities analytics tools
From time to time I take a look at competitors' website and the activities on their social media channel like facebook. There are many times that their facebook likes increase much faster/more than we do while I havenot been able to figure out why they get likes much more that we do. Compared with the competitors we have very similar activities: uploading content to facebook daily and have competition every week and answer every question about our services and have faq session sometime I think our content/information are even more valuable than our competitors. I think they are possibly doing something more value-added to be able to target more people? Is that any tools that I can use to get any insight? e.g. some activities that I am not able to see? Have done some research for last few weeks but I did not manage to findout. Thanks

Facebook likes v fans
Hello, When I look at my site in opensiteexplorer it says my site has 79 Facebook "likes". But actually, it has 4,070. In another part of the PRO dashboard it correctly identifies 4,070 but calls them "fans". I thought if someone hit the "like" button they became "fans". So why is SEOmoz reporting the vastly different figures?

Face Book..your thoughts on promoting on main web site
Moz Community, I would like Facebook promotion opinions. I have a local business (Seattle painting contractor) and have built a fan page which engages our clients, local & national suppliers, friends and other contractors. Our original intent was to use the fan page to promote our main website; we never added a prominent "like us" button on our main page, we did not want to convert for facebook when our best content was on our site. I have been pleasantly surprised this past year how many fans we have accumulated by promotion and by accident. The main benefit has been rewarding engagement from other industry marketers such as Benjamin Moore paint company, and introductions to local design professionals..and these conversations once started continue by direct communication (email..phone). I have just added a facebook link on my blog..see attached picture Join our 2500+ fans. Primarily because the visitors to the blog tend to be the sort that engage on Facebook vs the type that want a painting contractor (Google analytics traffic data and click through behavior). I now have more traffic to the blog than the front end site. What do you think of the button? What else should be promoting? How much power does using keywords on Facebook and Twitter have from an SEO perspective?
Hi all, When we add a new Christmas party package onto our website I always tweet about it with a link to the party page, utilizing a tweet such as : "New Manchester Christmas parties", followed by the link. How much power (if any) does utilizing the key phrase Manchester Christmas parties have on SEO for that page? Bearing in mind the link is shortened and doesn't mention the keywords anywhere in it, they are only present in the tweet itself. Similarly, on our company Facebook page I always post a link with a title such as "check out our new Manchester Christmas parties". Does this have much SEO benefit for the page I'm directing the link to? Many thanks!!
