Pinging Service?
-
Hi I'm considering using this pinging service http://www.pingler.com
I would just like people opinions on this? They will ping 25urls for me each month on regular basis. I can choose either to get my urls pinged daily or every 10 days for only $3 a month.
Does any have experience with pining services & will this benefit my seo, thanks.

Mike, I think I almost got the jest of your reply post, but let me make sure. I'll make some assumptions out loud and you tell me if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, if you don't mind, that is, please.
The site you mention, e.g. blogrolling.com etc., I take it those are sites that a ping service would notify about my newly submitted url to the ping service?
Regarding the 'keeping track' comments, I take it you mean that I could manually go to each of these sites and submit my site, but the ping services does that for me, and to many sites from my one submission to them?
As you can tell, ping services are new to me and like Socialdude who started this post, I am trying to understand it. Especially three aspects:
1. How and why do ping services work, and
2. What is their incentive to exist and do all this work for us for free? So they can advertise to us?
3. I own the site www.Grossinternational.com and I put new pages and blogs up on the site often so I am trying to understand if I should ping every new page and post, which I think I should, and second, should I ping them just the once and let it go or re-ping those pages?
It seems to me that I should only do it once, but when I see ping services offering to ping my site weekly or daily even, then I start doubting my understanding again. My latest blog tonight is at http://grossinternational.com/penny-auction-strategy/ and I just pinged it. Now, should I do that again in a week? And if so, why and how often?
Thanks for your help and time, and with me especially, thanks for your patience.

P.S. One other question, i.e. I pinged this page with this post on it. Isn't that a good idea, or not?

Thanks for the link Robert. I can't see details on the site for how regularly they check your sites - does the free service still check fairly regularly? we're currently using another service that I'd like to switch away from.

cheers for the reply guys
@Mike I'm not using wordpress
My site is built using the cms http://modx.com so I'll find out how to add a pinging service to my site.
OR as mentioned above just use pingler.com

Yes, it basically spreads the word about your content.
As Ping-o-Matic puts it:
So why would you want to be on these sites? One word: traffic. Blogrolling scripts like blogrolling.com and WordPress check update services to see if you've updated and then shows it on everyone's site -- usually by moving you to the top of people's blogrolling list or putting a recently updated indicator by your link. Services like Technorati spider your links to track who links to you and who you link to; almost in real time. If you show up on someone's Technorati link list (often called an "egorati search") they're likely to visit your site to see what you said, increasing your exposure. Other sites like weblogs.com and blo.gs list recently updated blogs. Lots of people browse these when they're bored. Many of the services offer their own forms for pinging their own service, but keeping track of all those services is a hassle.

Aaaaahhhh, thanks for the assist,
Does it assist SEO?

Robert,
I think you and Socialdude are talking about two different meanings for pinging. Socialdude is talking about pinging regarding updated site/blog content, where you are talking about monitoring to make sure your site is still active.
-
Hey,
Wordpress has a huge list of pinging services available:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services
I would think that one of those will do what you need.

Before you make your decision, check out Mon.itor.us
We started using them when we had some sites on one of our dedicated servers go down. They monitor every IP address we have and we get reports via email and if a problem we get sms.
They are very good, have reporting, etc. and.....they are free.
Best of luck.

Can service request pages be indexed for a service site?
I think there is no point in indexing service request pages for a service site. And it causes the indexing of the main pages to be done with a delay. Does anyone have experience with indexing service request pages and their results?

Should my home page be ranking for services provided?
Hello, Should I be tracking and trying to rank my home page for the services we provide? For example, I have separate pages for services that I will be ranking for, but should I also be adding those same service keywords to my tracking list for homepage? Or just merely mention that we have those services on the homepage and leave the attempted ranking of those for their service page? I hope that is clear... Thanks in advance

Products and Services - Reselling - What about the description?
Hi, Let say there is a company which resell products and services of other companies. What do you think should be the strategy for putting the description of every service/product? 1. Should I copy the text from the original website and paste it on my page. In this case we get a website that has a lot of copied content, although it is a valid content. I notice that this is quite popular practice with local distributors who sell products of other (multinational) companies. If so, should I rel=canonical to the original product? But than I wouldn't rank for this product on local market right? 2. Should I come up with original descriptions? Would that give me and advantage over the websites that have copied the description from other pages? Appreciate your answer!

Local Service Pages
We've all been here before if you do local. What type of content should go on a local service page when dealing with multiple service locations? You could: Describe Services List Local News Articles List staff in that location (although I would prefer in the staff page for that city) Testimonials from that location or service But what happens when you are describing something that needs no explanation. Or a medical procedure that requires no localization and altering the wording can actually cause legal problems if misstated. Matt Cuts recommends a few sentences to a paragraph to describe a service, but my experience hasn't found this to hold up locally. Any ideas or suggestions about how this could be remedied?

Recommended Length for a Companies "Services" Page Content
I am in the process of revamping my company's website. I do WordPress Development, Design, and SEO consulting, and i'm running into a sort of writer's block when wring my services pages. For example, my page on WordPress Security has 388 words of "body" content, and I feel from a content perspective, it serves it's purpose, but from an SEO perspective it is considered a little light. I really don't know what the SOP is here, because, I've literally seen competitors sites have a page on "WordPress Security" rank on the first page of Google with absolutely no content, an empty page. I see a lot of the Moz posts are huge, thosands of words, and I know they perform very well (and they also have ton's of links / PR...etc) and I just want to do the right thing. I know sites like http://www.seerinteractive.com/our-services/search-engine-optimization have relatively short info pages as well. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Targeting local keywords and service areas.
Hi, I run a small photo booth rental business in San Francisco, CA that serves the greater Bay Area. I've created different webpages for each location that we serve, ie: "San Francisco Photo Booth", "Oakland Photo Booth", "San Jose Photo Booth", etc.... I'm assuming that for each city, the strongest keyword would be "City-Photo Booth". However, I also want to target different variations of the keyword, such as: San Francisco Photo Booth: -Photo Booth San Francisco -SF Photo Booth -San Francisco Photobooth -San Francisco, CA Photo Booth -etc.... Will adding these keywords onto the same webpage dilute the relevance of my main keyword "San Francisco Photo Booth"? Also, is there any way to place these words within the text of the webpage so that it does not sound akward and unnatural to the reader? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

How are your "Service Area" pages handling Penguin/Panda?
We just got a new client because of recent Penguin/Panda changes. A national "SEO" firm decided it was a good idea to set up a page for each service town or county they serve with nothing but duplicate content. Needless to say, on the week of the 23rd, their rankings tanked from 1st page (it's not a competitive niche) to 4th. I'm not bringing this up to brag, but rather because it got me thinking... How are your geographically targeted "service area" pages doing? Have the recent changes caused you to rethink your geographic targeting in any way?

For Service Sites, having a phone number in meta description ALWAYS a good idea?
If you have a site that offers a same day service, e.g. plumbing, electrical, computer support: do you think it would always be a good idea to stick the phone # in the meta description?
