What is the best way to transfer a sites link juice.
-
We have been building a new website for one of our clients which he wants it to replace an existing website which will be taken down shortly.
The existing site has a reasonable amount of inbound links and we would like to redirect that link juice to the new website, can anyone tell me what the best way to do this would be.
Thanks
Fraser

Hi!
there are several options depending on the situation.
- The new site is essentially redesigned but maintains the URLs structure > the links will still work (I know it is now your situation, but 1 to consider);
- New site, same domain name, same content, but different URLs structure > 301 the old URLs to the matching content new ones via .htaccess (assuming the site is hosted in an Apache environment);
- New site, same domain, different content structure and different URLs structure too > 301 the old URLs to the most related content page of the new site
- New site, new domain name, same content but different URLs structure > as point 2, but in this case you can also use the "Change of Address" option in Google Webmaster Tools (under "Site Configuration"). I think that Bing webmaster central offers a similar option
- New site, new domain name, different content structure and different URLs structure too > as point 3 but with the GWT option too (and maybe BWC as well).
Hope this helps

Unable to view link from Apprentices gov.uk site
Hi, I've noticed that when some companies are advertising for apprentices on the https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk website they gain a followed link from the site. When I then use opensiteexplorer the link doesn't show. Does anyone know the reason for Moz not picking this up? Am I not giving it long enough to show? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Multiply Sites / Back Links / i.p Address ?
Hi We are building a business that has multiple locations in multiple cities in the UK. We want to build a network of geographical based websites for each location / city we have a office in that we service. We are going to build about 50 sites (Standalone on their own domain) to cover all the main cities, and one main company site. The idea with the 50 x sites is to benefit from google local searches and a local location. With the 50 x sites they would all back link to the main website, so would they need to all be on seperate i.p address and hosting to get the back link to count? or can they be all hosted on the same i.p address? Obviously it would be useful to get 50 x back links from relevant sites we are just trying to work out the best to way to do this. Thanks for any advice

When does Google Webmaster update your links to site??
Hi everyone We removed a load of links from a site over 2 months ago but they still show in Google webmaster tools. I understand Google will not be reading this links as they were removed so long ago. However I just was interested when Google might update these as not showing as linking to us anymore. I like to try and keep things tidy and its a bit frustrating it would be good to be 100% sure what Google is counting at any given time. Cheers James

What are some of your best tips, strategies or resources for link building?
I currently work for a contract manufacturing company so when I think about building links it seems as if it's going to be a daunting task. Mainly because any kind of content that you can come up with is rather dry. When I go about searching for links I usually run into a lot of directories that charge anywhere between $25-$50 for a listing. I've had a hard time convincing marketing that we should start a blog which may be a good way to build some links if we come up with quality posts but those posts may be few and far inbetween. Does anybody have any recommendations for building links for this type of company or subject matter? Also, and I'm sure we have all heard this. When I mentioned the fact that we should be building some quality links to the site marketing first asked why and then commented "Well that shouldn't take you too long". Why is it so difficult to get management to accept the fact that managing a website is an ongoing and constantly changing process that involves research and experimentation?

New ways to get links (excluding on site link bait)?
Fellow SEOs, I’m looking for a new way to reach out to bloggers and site owners for links. There are quite a few link bait techniques to lure bloggers thanks to = amazing content, infographics,...but there are not so many articles on ways to contact bloggers/webmasters and ask for links... We all know that contacting site owners directly and politely asking then to place a link on their home page is as useful as a comb in Bruce willis’s hand. Link exchange is as dead as the Dodo and business partner links are usefull and easier to get but opportunities are often limited. I have been organizing contests for bloggers recently and it has been quite successful up to now, but I always like to have a spare trick up my sleeve. So if any of you have a decent method to reach out to bloggers/webmaster and get decent links please let me know, I will be forever thankful ; ) Cheers
