GA - how returning visitors are counted ?
-
If a visitor comes to my site from 3 different traffic sources within a session, does GA report shows 1 visit and 2 returning visitors ?
Previously ( before Google made changes in session ) it used to show 1 visit and zero returning visitors. right ?
-
A session only ends now if:
-an ip goes 30 minutes without a new pageview
-at the end of the day
-when they close their browser (I have heard if you reopen it quickly it might still count as the same session)
-and since Aug 11, When any traffic source value for the user changes. Traffic source information includes:utm_source, utm_medium, utm_term, utm_content, utm_id, utm_campaign, and gclid. This includes all Google tracking URLs.
It is my understanding that as long as one of these rules is not violated, you will not start a new session. In other words if a person goes to your site, leaves and comes back within 30 minutes it is still the same session. I believe they do this to help account for people "shopping around" on several sites. That is of course if they don't come via a URL with the above parameters...
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Is GA Real-Time Locations Broken?
When I look at my real-time site traffic in GA, I'm seeing a lot of direct traffic from Montvale, NJ. However, when I go to the audience tab for today or any day in the past, Montvale doesn't even show up in the list of cities sending traffic. What am I missing here?

How Reliable is the Avg Query Position in GA?
Hi Moz Community, I wanted to know how reliable the average position data is for queries in Google Analytics search console report. I know this report is fairly new this year and the numbers are calculated a bit differently than they were in the old search engine optimization report. I want to know what the biggest differences are between this search console report vs. the old SEO report in GA. I'm also pretty confused about how GA reports on the average position. Obviously it's an average position of whatever date range your choose. But for instance, if your site shows multiples landing pages for one search query will it roll that into the average or just take the landing page that ranks higher? Does the position average take into account video or photo serp results and is this the average across mobile, desktop and tablet? This number has always been a guess since it's sampled data but I want to know how accurate it is. I read this article in 2014 (linked below) but I'm not sure if it all still applies now that that data might be presented differently. https://moz.com/ugc/testing-the-accuracy-of-avg-position-for-search-queries-in-google-webmaster-tools Any answers or discussions would be great here. Thanks

Pageview/Goal Data Errors In GA
**Background: ** We utilize a static .html page for our quote form. It is embedded on our WordPress site via iframe in a single location. The quote form code itself (within the quote form .html) is generated from our CRM, but contains no tracking code itself. The .html containing this code is tracked with embedded Analytics code to track our Goals. This code is tested and works properly, recording goal completions when our thank-you.html page is loaded within the iframe. To be clear, quote.html is the page the iframe loads, .com/quote-page is the WordPress page with the iframe, and thanks.html is the goal completion page. Google Analyticator plugin handles code insertion throughout the site. The .html pages have code manually inserted and neither are indexed by Google or linked to/accessible by any route other than .com/quote-page **Problems: ** 1. When I check Pageviews in GA, the quote.html page has many more hits than .com/quote-page. The disparity is 552 to 416. How is this possible when quote-page has to be loaded in order for quote.html to be loaded? Shouldn't they be similar? 2. Our completion page, thanks.html, is showing 142 pageviews and 133 unique pageviews. Our goals confirm 133 goal conversions. How are people seeing the thanks.html page again without it registering a goal? A backspace? Someone help me decipher this please! If you need any more details, let me know!

May last year my sites orgainic listings, and therfore visitors, plumeted. Why?
Hello, May last year my site took a major fall. I am unsure why, and it's time I found out why. Recently I have rebuilt the site from scratch, except for the urls and content, and it's starting to turn back. What is the best method to go about understanding just what caused the decline? What are the options I have? See the image for a graph of the all-time traffic. http://i.imgur.com/uL93yPj.png My website in question is: www.ditalia.com.au Thanks. uL93yPj.png

Switching from synchronous to asynchronous code in GA
Morning all, I'm looking to integrate GA with Webmasters tools but to do so I need to have the new asynchronous GA code implemented into my website. Now, I'm happy to just copy and paste the new code into my site footer, but will that any effect on the data that I've already tracked? Is there any reason why this is really not a good idea? Thanks for your help,
