Our site being outranked by competitors with lower "moz" scores - due to on-page SEO?
-
Howdy,
Our SEO efforts are doing well, but for a few keywords it seems we cannot budge one of the competitors sitting in spot #1. Through some competitive analysis I've noticed that our website has a much higher mozRank with regards to both page and domain compared to the current #1 spot.
My question is what kind of factors could be the issue as to why we are still being outranked. Is it simply a case of poor on-page SEO at this point or should I be taking the mozRanks with a grain of salt.

Definately a good point by costume

I am having the EXACT same issue with several of the sites I manage. One thing I found is that the "Social Signals" (i.e. Tweets, Likes, +1) for our competitors are almost twice ours. You many want to compare social signals.

MozRank and domain level MozTrust are great indicators for how a site 'should' perform, however you need to bear in mind that google's index is much, much larger than linkscape and therefore, MozRank is only an indicator. There could be lots of sites that google know about but that are not in linkscape that may explain your competitor's advantage.
Google also have other ranking factors and may be disregarding some of your site's links for example because they don't recognise them as good sources.
Aside from this there are many factors including the content which you mentioned. You'll need to produce high quality content now that Panda is on the scene.
-
Things to also consider are user metrics, how a user responds to your site, such as bounce rate and non measurable factors such as trust.
-
mozRank is a great indicator how you fare against your competitors in terms of external links and it's rank is based on the link quality of the links. Google's SERP algorithm goes way beyond at just looking at the external links and I recall Matt Cutts saying that there are over 200 factors in the algorithm.

mozRank, DA, and PA are just measurements. Generally having higher scores for all three are a good indicator that you should rank higher...however in my own experience it took months for this site
Seattle Painting to take over the number one spot from http://www.seattlepainting.com/ for the keyword "seattle painting" despite the fact that all three metrics favored the first site; in a very lopsided way. I believe Google grandfathers in a site if it has historically remained in the top spot....a "grandfather effect"
Be patient, build good links, create compelling content.

How do you select which keywords to push in SEO?
Hi Guys Selecting the right keywords that a website can realistically rank for is a key to gain top rankings relatively quick. I am just curious to hear how you guys do it (the methodology) when selecting which keywords to push? I mean you need to check the competition for each keyword as well so how to check this quickly to see what we realistically can rank for? Cheers John

Training Recommendation for In House SEO
Hi, I'm a business owner who has been dabbling in SEO for years. I have a bright, capable employee with a development/coding background and I would like her to start doing full time SEO for me. (competitive analysis, link building and content marketing specifically - I like the strategy laid out here and would like her to implement it for me) What do you think is the best training resource for her to develop an in-depth understanding of SEO for my business? Any recommendations for specific courses she can take? Thanks.

Improving SERP rankings via strategic SEO tactics
Hi, We just build some of our new content pages on our website 1.https://www.practo.com/ray/dental-software 2.https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software 3.https://www.practo.com/ray/homeopathy-software Could someone explain how do I build around a good SEO strategy to compete with others for better positions on the SERP's. I have not done anything apart from fixing proper title tags , and meta descriptions etc and of course putting down relevant fresh content onto these pages. These pages were published about 3 weeks ago - Only this url ranks on the 2nd page as of now for keywords like "dermatology software" https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software The rest of the URL's do not rank anywhere till the 10th SERP too! What could be wrong and where could I have the opportunity to boost the SEO tactics since all the pages which rank above it are just not providing the right kind of product as we are and still they take up the top positions and genuine users miss out on our domain. Thanks . Looking forward to some awesome responses.

Site redirect
Hi, Our site www.suncamp.nl has, for language reasons, 2 redirects So : www.suncamp.nl is redirected with a 301 to www.suncamp.nl/nl/nl and is than redirected 301 to http://www.suncamp.nl/nl/nl/home/uc19-l1-n804/ My question is; is this bad for our SEO? Recently we've been doing a lot of linkbuilding and SEO copywriting, but in comparison with our competitors were lagging behind. So I'm looking for other bottlenecks. Kind regards, Dennis Overbeek My email: dennis@acsi.eu ACSI
