The system shows duplicate content for the same page (main domain and index.html). Is this an error of SEOMOZ?
-
Should I be worried that this will affect SEO? Most sites redirect to the index.html page, right?

Awesome! Thank you so much for the advice Ryan!

Thank you for sharing the link.
Your site definitely has a duplication problem. Presently your entire site is available via the root domain and the www subdomain.
http://www.physicaltherapyspecialists.com/
http://physicaltherapyspecialists.com/
Both of the above links work. Both of the above links also present the site with the listed URL and a 200 header code. That means your entire site is duplicated. This is an SEO issue which needs to be addressed.
The first step towards resolution is deciding how you wish your site to be seen, as the www or non-www URL. Next, you need to be absolutely consistent with your selected URL version. If you have managed hosting, contact your host and request your site be 301 redirected to the chosen URL version.
Once this issue is resolved, I recommend you take a look at the SEO Beginner's Guide. It contains a lot of truly helpful information. You can learn any particular element of SEO such as canonical tags fairly quickly. Understanding the optimal times to use canonical tags vs 301s takes experience, and even experts will disagree at times. Your issues can be handled by yourself if you are willing to learn and invest time in your site.
Good luck.

The URL is physicaltherapyspecialists.com. I just took out the redirect and cannonical url code. I will wait it out. But I am not sure even what the dup pages are.SEOMoz just shows the pages that are duplicates but not the duplicate URL's

Based on your results and how you worded the reply, I am concerned you have not implemented the tag correctly. Can you provide your URL so I can take a look?
Please also share a couple examples of duplicate pages and the URL which should be the primary page for the selected content.

Hi Ryan,
I added url="canonical" tag for the homepage and now I have 38 pages of duplicate content (supposedly) according to my SEOMOZ dashboard. I called my host over the weekend, and they have no idea how to redirect for SEO. I would have been much happier leaving everything alone and going back to my 8 duplicate pages.... Any further suggestions?
Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron, your SEOquake extension is adding data to each of your replies which makes them very difficult to read.
I have viewed your responses in FF and Chrome. Please remove the extra content from the replies.

I just added 301 redirect command for whole entire old site domain to the new site with the "/". I hope that this works
-
Hi Ryan,
I looked into this, and I currently have the redirect of my old domain going to /. Is there anything else you could think of here? I will go in and see if I have an .htaccess file with proper 301 language.

Aaron,
Change any links pointing to index.html to the root domain ie. /
-
Thanks for the explanation Ryan! I have tried so many times to get this perfect, but the host for one of my client's sites keeps screwing it up. I will try to rectify asap. Thank you so much, Aaron.

If you are seeing this error, the most likely cause is your site isn't redirecting the index.html page to the / page. If you have a site which offers two URLs which provide the same content, it will be considered duplicate content by search engines. The best approach is to properly redirect to the preferred URL.

Duplicate content in Shopify - subsequent pages in collections
Hello everyone! I hope an expert in this community can help me verify the canonical codes I'll add to our store is correct. Currently, in our Shopify store, the subsequent pages in the collections are not indexed by Google, however the canonical URL on these pages aren't pointing to the main collection page (page 1), e.g. The canonical URL of page 2, page 3 etc are used as canonical URLs instead of the first page of the collections. I have the canonical codes attached below, it would be much appreciated if an expert can urgently verify these codes are good to use and will solve the above issues? Thanks so much for your kind help in advance!! -----------------CODES BELOW--------------- <title><br /> {{ page_title }}{% if current_tags %} – tagged "{{ current_tags | join: ', ' }}"{% endif %}{% if current_page != 1 %} – Page {{ current_page }}{% endif %}{% unless page_title contains shop.name %} – {{ shop.name }}{% endunless %}<br /></title>

What are best page titles for sub-domain pages?
Hi Moz communtity, Let's say a website has multiple sub-domains with hundreds and thousands of pages. Generally we will be mentioning "primary keyword & "brand name" on every page of website. Can we do same on all pages of sub-domains to increase the authority of website for this primary keyword in Google? Or it gonna end up as negative impact if Google consider as duplicate content being mentioned same keyword and brand name on every page even on website and all pages of sub domains? Thanks

Trailing Slashes for Magento CMS pages - 2 URLS - Duplicate content
Hello, Can anyone help me find a solution to Fixing and Creating Magento CMS pages to only use one URL and not two URLS? www.domain.com/testpage www.domain.com/testpage/ I found a previous article that applies to my issue, which is using htaccess to redirect request for pages in magento 301 redirect to slash URL from the non-slash URL. I dont understand the syntax fully in htaccess , but I used this code below. This code below fixed the CMS page redirection but caused issues on other pages, like all my categories and products with this error: "This webpage has a redirect loop ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS" Assuming you're running at domain root. Change to working directory if needed. RewriteBase / # www check If you're running in a subdirectory, then you'll need to add that in to the redirected url (http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory/$1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www. [NC]

Best Way to Incorporate FAQs into Every Page - Duplicate Content?
Hi Mozzers, We want to incorporate a 'Dictionary' of terms onto quite a few pages on our site, similar to an FAQ system. The 'Dictionary' has 285 terms in it, with about 1 sentence of content for each one (approximately 5,000 words total). The content is unique to our site and not keyword stuffed, but I am unsure what Google will think about us having all this shared content on these pages. I have a few ideas about how we can build this, but my higher-ups really want the entire dictionary on every page. Thoughts? Image of what we're thinking here - http://screencast.com/t/GkhOktwC4I Thanks!

How long does google take to show the results in SERP once the pages are indexed ?
Hi...I am a newbie & trying to optimize the website www.peprismine.com. I have 3 questions - A little background about this : Initially, close to 150 pages were indexed by google. However, we decided to remove close to 100 URLs (as they were quite similar). After the changes, we submitted the NEW sitemap (with close to 50 pages) & google has indexed those URLs in sitemap. 1. My pages were indexed by google few days back. How long does google take to display the URL in SERP once the pages get indexed ? 2. Does google give more preference to websites with more number of pages than those with lesser number of pages to display results in SERP (I have just 50 pages). Does the NUMBER of pages really matter ? 3. Does removal / change of URLs have any negative effect on ranking ? (Many of these URLs were not shown on the 1st page) An answer from SEO experts will be highly appreciated. Thnx !

Is this will post Duplicated Content
I have domain let say abcshoesonlinestore.com and inside pages of this abcshoesonlinestore.com is ranking very well such as affiliate page, knowledgebase page and other pages, HOWEVER i would like to change my home page and product page to shorter url which abcshoes.com and keep those inside page like www.abashoesonlinestore.com/affiliate or www.abcshoesonlinestore.com/knowledgebase as it is - will this pose duplicate content? This is my plan to do it: the home page and product page will be www.abcshoes.com and when people click www.abcshoes.com/affiliate it will redirect 301 to abcshoesonlinestore.com/affiliate HOWEVER if someone type abcshoesonlinestore.com or abcshoesonlinestore.com/product it will redirect to abcshoes.com or its product page itself (i want to use 302 instead 301 (ASSUMING if the homapage or product page have manual penalization or anything bad we want to leave it behind and start fresh JUST assume because i read some post that 301 will carry any bad thing to new site too) The reason i do not want to 301 from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com is because those many pages is ranking top 3 in GOOGLE ( i worry will lose this ranking since this bringing traffic for us) Is this good idea or bad idea or any better idea or should i try to see the outcome 🙂 - the only concern is from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com will pose as duplicate content if i do not use 301 - or can i use google webmaster tools to remove the home page and product page for abcshoesonlinestore.com can we tell google that? PS: (home page and product page will have new revise content and minor design change) but inside page will stay the same design Please give me some advise
